is "naive" a personal attack ?

since when ?

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 22:47

I am countering your arguments, choo

it's called "having an exchange"

you can call me boring, if you like

but you would be wrong Smile

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 22:47

Grin at RiRi

happybubblebrain · 18/03/2011 22:50

I think most of you are just jealous, and old, and prudish, and boring.

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 22:51

yes happybubblebrain you are entirely correct

silly me Grin

squeakytoy · 18/03/2011 22:51

Well I am over 40, and I bought her new album. I think its great. Grin

I also got the Adele one too this week... which is ok, but not as good as the Rhianna one.

Thingumy · 18/03/2011 22:52

Squeaky, they sounded good though didn't they?

Professor · 18/03/2011 22:56

My DS was actually singing that bloody song about loiking being in chains and whipped today. He is ( and thinks she is 'cool'.

I hate her with a passion. Singing (miming) on tv with very little clothing on about DV and the size of penises and S and M is not talent. It's just attention seeking from a mediocre looking young woman who has allowed herself to be manipulated by the media.

Every time the DJ on the radio announces a new single from her, I just sigh and know it's going to be the same old sleazy trash she always churns out every other week.

Fleecy · 18/03/2011 22:58

I have mixed feelings - on the one hand I agree with mrsCB she's a healthy, confident woman and a role model in that respect, not some skinny bint starving herself to look good in fashion. And she walked away from DV without a second glance.

Plus, from what I understand she's said to be a genuinely friendly girl with a fantastic work ethic.

But now that I have a daughter I do worry about the whole provocative thing and the emphasis on being 'sexy' the whole time.

notreallyno · 18/03/2011 22:58

Can I just add that anyone who buys her ex's music, Chris Brown, is an utter moron. He is a violent bully and should not be tolerated or supported.

skippitydoodah · 18/03/2011 22:59

I am old, I'm not jealous, I can be slightly prudish.

ddubsgirl · 18/03/2011 23:01

every era has songs/singers etc that are either called a tart or slut etc,its not a new thing by any means, its just now its harder to stop kids listening to the songs, you have many more radio stations 24hr music channels downloads etc,but songs/videos that were banned back then made them more popular.

madonnas video was classed as near on porn, yet most videos now are worse,is it a bad thing?maybe, but just as with films etc,we teach our kids,it isnt real.

skippitydoodah · 18/03/2011 23:01

Not dull though.

skippitydoodah · 18/03/2011 23:05

I don't think Rihanna is a tart or slut.

Those are horrible expressions.

I do worry as a parent of 2 girls that the role models they have are applauded for their sexuality rather than any other attributes. Its a bit narrow.

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 23:07

at least Madonna in her hey day was a role model of a strong woman

she had mainly gay men "vogueing" around to her tune

most R'n'B videos these days have het men fully dressed with the females scantily clad with plastic tits rubbing their arses up and down the blokes jeans like they are some kind of bitch on heat

great message I want my teenage dd to absorb, innit

ddubsgirl · 18/03/2011 23:07

sorry ment that as a general saying,i like rihanna :)

ddubsgirl · 18/03/2011 23:10

i think rihanna knows what she is doing just as madonna did,she used her body to get attention, how is rihanna/britney/chritina/miley/gaga any different?just madonna did it first lol!

expatinscotland · 18/03/2011 23:11

Exactly, skippity!

Mrswhiskerson · 18/03/2011 23:11

i think rihanna has some serious issues and is being controlled completely by the people around her , she appears to be utterly desperate for male attention and approval and it seems she cant stop pushing the boundaries , what will be next actual porn ?
imho videos like s&m , dirrrty and the like are basically soft porn aimed at your teenagers and it is supposed to be acceptable because its art , its wrong and the artists do not care as long as the money rolls in , they say things like i dont want to be a role model and think it is enough to excuse their behaviour but it is wrong they are role models it comes with the job , a job they get paid millions to do . I think the should be a music watershed uncut songs and videos after eight or nine then adults can enjoy them without having to listen to our dc singing things like 'i like the way you pull my hair'

adamschic · 18/03/2011 23:18

Mrswhiskerson, I think Rihanna knows what she is doing to make money. It may be that she is exploiting the viewing public to do so but if they didn't enjoy watching it and buying her music then she wouldn't be able to make her money.

skippitydoodah · 18/03/2011 23:22

My DD at the age of 7 picks up lyrics really quickly and if she doesn't understand them it can be difficult when she asks me to explain. She's just a little girl FGS.

MaisyMooCow · 18/03/2011 23:25

Love her music, hate her look, I think she's a bit trashy.

ScarlettWalking · 18/03/2011 23:29

That S&M song is just filth. "sex in the air I love the smell of it" I mean come on I cringe whenever I hear it. Although she is very beautiful, I can't help feeling somehow sad when I see her because she has become so sexualised and not in control of her own image. Almost like it has gone too far but very normalised at the same time if that makes sense.

Her popularity went off the scale when she cranked the whore image to the max, and young girls love her!

squeakytoy · 18/03/2011 23:31

My 4yr old granddaughter picks up song lyrics really easily.. we dont explain, we just change the words.. hence "my roof is on fire" was sang very loudly for a few weeks a couple of years ago..

adamschic · 18/03/2011 23:32

She shouldn't be on TV before the watershed. Stop your kids watching it and join a pressure group, it's wrong and we all know it. Let children be children as boys are just as much at risk as girls imo.
