And the image she brings with her?

OP posts:
PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 21:55

talent ?

she writes her own songs then ?

is it a talent to get your arse crack out and drone in a monotone about S+M ?

I could do that

gizza job

SaggyHairyArse · 18/03/2011 22:01

What I find weird is all these songs pretty much advocating domestic violence i.e. The Rhianna and Eminem song, Rhianna and Kanye West song and even Matt Cardles song. I think it is sick.

MrsBloomingTroll · 18/03/2011 22:09

YANBU! I hate her music too.

The sex and guns references are appalling. Thank goodness Radio 1 have applied the silly censoring noises to her latest offering!

CHOOGIRL · 18/03/2011 22:14

Yes PA she is a singer (which counts as talent in my book) and a songwriter.

If you think you could sell out 8 dates at the 02 with your talent. Go for it.

IIRC both Eminem and Rhianna were involved in abusive relationships so I don't believe love the way you lie is advocating DV.

Jellykat · 18/03/2011 22:14

Eric- I wasn't suggesting Pink and Jessie J were like Rhianna, just pointing out that women don't need to sing subservient lyrics like Rhianna,(despite the male dominated music industry, and the fact that 'sex sells') to make it to 'number one' in the charts.

God, i'd forgotten that awful 'love the way you lie'.

dinosaurkisses · 18/03/2011 22:15

I love her.... however, I don't have kids. I love her music, but I wouldn't be comfortable having to explain to a child of mine about sado masochism because of a song on the radio.

MrsBloomingTroll · 18/03/2011 22:16

Or try explaining Russian Roulette to a child? That was the more worrying song, IMHO!

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 22:16

choo... the video for "love the way you lie" sexualises and glamourises domestic violence for the average 12yo

which is their demographic

now you and I may see subtle nuances and ironies in those videos

12yo's do not

I rest my case

dinosaurkisses · 18/03/2011 22:19

God yeah, I've never thought about it before, but Love The Way You Lie is the type of song you could see a 14 year old listening to, thinking it's okay to be treated like shit, it's just passionate innit?

Jellykat · 18/03/2011 22:23

Completely agree PAFPM.. I know my 13 year old doesn't get the irony, he takes song lyrics word for word.

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 22:25

yeah, getting thrown up against the wall while the weed that is Eminem aggressively shouts the "lyrics" is what all 14 yo's aspire to, innit

CHOOGIRL · 18/03/2011 22:30

I disagree 12 is the demographic. Ticket prices for her live tour average about £50. Median age of her audience is about 30.

orangehead · 18/03/2011 22:31

I dont like her either and agree with Lissy dh hat most women in the music business act like lapdancers in thier videos. I think its quite sad and does not say a lot for they talent.
Also think the song and video with Eminem is disguisting.

expatinscotland · 18/03/2011 22:32

YANBU

I'm not a fan.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 18/03/2011 22:32

"PA she is a singer (which counts as talent in my book) and a songwriter.

If you think you could sell out 8 dates at the 02 with your talent. Go for it."

I presume she can sing (but have never heard her live)which is a talent but the selling out of the O2/her career is very much bolstered by the fact she sees nothing wrong with wearing very little, whilst dancing provocatively, singing about sex and a huge marketing campaign.

adamschic · 18/03/2011 22:32

I like Jessie J, like some of Rihanna's tunes but must admit to not listening carefully to the lyrics. I don't have young DC's to give it a second thought.

Music has traditionally pushed boundaries which is fine for a teen/adult market but tbh I have seen this sort of thing happening for years. e.g kids tv having gyrating half naked women performing, very wrong imo.

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/03/2011 22:34

I like her.

For one thing she presents a healthy physical ideal in this world of size zero celebs - she has an athletic attractive figure.

I also think she's a good singer. I'd much rather my DD liked her than Chezza Cole [nations' sweetheart/racist bully]

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/03/2011 22:35

And also she did dump the man who physically assaulted her unlike so many female 'celebs' who stay with their crapy husbands/partners.

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 22:35

choo...you are quite naive

12 yo's will not pay the ticket prices, their parents will

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/03/2011 22:35

Crappy obviously.

FlaminGreatGallah · 18/03/2011 22:37

Mike Reid banned "Relax" and I remember seeing Frankie on Saturday Superstore. They did a lovely little interview and then Mike asked them what the prize draw question would be:

They said something like, "which cunt banned "Relax?" Grin

CHOOGIRL · 18/03/2011 22:40

Why the personal attack PA? Am not naive.

Am going by what I saw when I saw her perform live.

Thingumy · 18/03/2011 22:41

"which cunt banned "Relax?"

haha

squeakytoy · 18/03/2011 22:42

I grew up in an era when "Like a Virgin" and "Papa Dont Preach" were in the charts... as well as plenty of other risque songs.. they are just songs.

sundayrose10 · 18/03/2011 22:45

Rihanna is absolutely beautiful. Stunning stunning girl. Love her to bits. Go RiRi!
