boobellina · 17/03/2011 15:19

Yes it would look horrific. Do it and post pics please Grin

Then if anyone comments say you did it for Comic Relief and hold your hand out for a donation.

Sn0wflake · 17/03/2011 15:19

It would look bad. At least get someone you know to trim it.

headfairy · 17/03/2011 15:20

Isn't there a mnet haircut which is something similar? I'll have a look for the thread, hold on...

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 17/03/2011 15:21

Oooh don't do it. The strange guy in my work had long long hair and came in with it short one day. He had put it in a ponytail and then chopped it off and it looked AWFUL. We did all have a little snigger.

How about a hairdressing academy if you're broke? They're usually looking for models.

ObiWan · 17/03/2011 15:21

Yup , it will look that bad.

And you'll have the 'Oh, where didi you get your hair done last time....?' conversation from the hairdresser when you do eventually get around to it. Trust me, I knowGrin.

4FoxAche · 17/03/2011 15:22

Get a mobile hairdresser in.

Just had mine done for £50. (complete restyle, colour, highlights and styled)Would have cost triple that at a salon.

Alternately there's the 'mumsnet haircut'

FriggFRIGG · 17/03/2011 15:22

Oh,

everyone i know would make a far worse job of it than i ever could...and thats saying something

cumbria81 · 17/03/2011 15:23

Do it! and post the photos - I need cheering up!

shumway · 17/03/2011 15:23

I did it to mine. Look for how to do it on youtube.

FriggFRIGG · 17/03/2011 15:23

whats the Mumsnet haircut?!

4FoxAche · 17/03/2011 15:24

Alternatively even.

MaryDancesTheTango · 17/03/2011 15:26

You pull your hair into a tight ponytail on top of your head then cut.

Don't do it.

FriggFRIGG · 17/03/2011 15:29

that would look bad....im sure,i would look really bad wouldnt it....

i need to phone a hairdresser.

how crappy are supercuts?!!

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 17/03/2011 15:30

Well, have you noticed in films they do it and it always looks lovely!!!

I could do with a laugh so if you do it, please share a photo!!

kittybuttoon · 17/03/2011 15:30

I was in the desert, and my long hair was driving me mad. So I bullied my sister into chopping it off with the (blunt) bacon scissors.

She was terrified, but I still reckon it was the best hairdo I ever had.

Also, there was no-one else except the two of us for a two-hundred mile radius. Which helped Grin

Rhinestone · 17/03/2011 15:31

Nooo, don't do it. It will all be different lengths and will look shit.

FriggFRIGG · 17/03/2011 15:33

Grin @ kitty

do you reckon she'll come round and do mine...

TheSleepFairy · 17/03/2011 15:34

I need before & after photo's to gage my laughter reaction.

Tere is a MN haircut thread somewhere, you pull your hair into a tight unicorn ponytail & chop of. If you do it to the side of your head you get a long fringe.

What area are ou in? I know a few mobile hairdressers.

TheSleepFairy · 17/03/2011 15:34

What area are YOU in - obv

confuseddotcodotuk · 17/03/2011 15:34

A (male) friend of mine done that a couple of months ago, it's hilarious, he won't leave the house without a beanie now! Grin

I did it as well when I was 18, but this was in a hairdressers and my hair was being donated to little princesses so they gave me a normal priced cheaper trim (oh the joys of rash decisions at 3pm on Christmas Eve...)

Try the MN haircut out before you go too mad. Its gives you a choppy layered hairdo. The choppiness hides any bits that have gone a bit wrong.

headfairy · 17/03/2011 15:40

gah, bloody internet connection is playing up... have a hunt for the mnet haircut... there are some demos for ponytail haircuts on youtube too..

madonnawhore · 17/03/2011 15:40

Put your head upside down (like you're going to wrap a towel around it) gather up all your hair and then twist it, then take some scissors and trim the ends. When you shake it out, you'll have a slightly layered do (depending on how far up the 'twist' you make the cut).

I used to do this when I was a teenager and couldn't afford to go to a real hairdresser. It always looked ok, although as a caveat I should add that you might look like you're from the 90s.
