To not know what to call DS's "bits"

DSs are 6 and 4 and we have always said willy but now they have picked up "nuts" from school. I don't particularly like hearing them say it but suppose it is better that many words they could use! What are they called in your families?

think it's a bit odd to use penis/vagina and particularly vulva at that age, i actually don't even use those at my age. nothing wrong with willy but agree there is not such a good word in similar vein for testicles or female genitalia.

on holiday a good few years ago with lots of family, my 3 year old cousin got a bit of thrush, bless her, and out at a restaurant one night, whipped her legs up on the table and announced 'mummy! my petunie itches!' noone knew where she'd got it from but it stuck in their family!!

wook · 13/03/2011 21:41

Glad dd does not have the world's only 'twinkle' Grin

ds has a willy and his goolies are his 'teabags'

Am36butfeel66 · 13/03/2011 22:04

My dd has a Molly! Not sure why that name, but that is the one we use in jest at work. (I'm a nurse). :)

FunnysInTheGarden · 13/03/2011 22:07

willy, we have not got to bollocks just yet Grin

But couldn't call them penis and testicles. Too anatomical

LDNmummy · 13/03/2011 22:09

Ding Dong till 7 or 8, was then told it was a penis and that was the end of it.

dementedma · 13/03/2011 22:14

willy and balls here.
The girls never really had a name for their bits...

MissVerinder · 13/03/2011 22:15

vagina!

ballstoit · 13/03/2011 22:23

Willy and Peanuts. From my DNephew mispronouncing penis and his dad assuming he was saying peanuts, it just stuck from there.

I struggled with DDs. She started calling it her Front Bum so we've stuck with that.

jetmonkey · 13/03/2011 22:25

I love this thread Grin I have heard girls bits called flossie, but it hasn't really come up at our house yet, dd still a bit young

hissymissy · 13/03/2011 22:32

DS calls his bits "willy and peanuts". Girl's bits he calls "china" for some reason, I think it is just him mispronouncing "vagina" (horrid word for a child to say - so I haven't disabused him of the notion)

CointreauVersial · 13/03/2011 22:37

DS1's penis was christened "Gary" by his younger sisters, back when they all had baths together, and the name stuck, even though he's now 11.

He would probably describe it as a willy to those outside the family, though. Grin

FantasticDay · 13/03/2011 22:38

Willy and balls for Ds' bits. Fanny for DD.

WhatKatieDid · 13/03/2011 22:52

I tend to think of fanny as a bit rude... same with minge. a friend recently told me that's what they called their DDs precious place. I was a bit Shock

SlightlyJaded · 13/03/2011 22:59

Willy and balls for DS justt turned 4
And front bottom for DD, 5

oldraver · 13/03/2011 23:31

DS used to call his penis his winkle (cant remember where it came from, not a word I would use) and testicles 'bits'. He then went through a stage of pre-fixing everything with 'Mr', so now its Mr Winkle and Mr Bits

NoWayNoHow · 13/03/2011 23:38

It's either just "willy" or if it's referring to the whole, ahem, package, I call it his "bits and bobs". He's only 3 though, so I'm sure this will all change to some far more interesting names as he gets older!

timetosmile · 13/03/2011 23:57

Willy and balls for DS1 (though he knows the proper words).
DS2 decided on willy and (delightfully descriptive)'hung-hungs' aged 2,and that has stuck.
DD silenced the communal swimming pool changing room aged 4 with 'I need more talc for my wulva' Blush

PaWithABra · 14/03/2011 00:19

we like to play a game of thinking up all the different names for testicles and penis.

Good clean fun. He couldn't stop smirking when we had chicken balls from the chinese takaway last night.

Girls bits are called fannies aren't they ? that's what we call 'em but i dont have any daughters. He calls his mums her fluffy though (well he used to when he was little)

MoonGirl1981 · 14/03/2011 04:35

My son has always said 'penis', ever since he first started talking.

I do remember when he first went to playgroup he came home and at some point said to me "it's not my penis, it's my bobbin".

Aaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!

Bobbin? WTF?? WHY??

Imagine him calling it his 'bobbin' in years to come with future girlfriends/boyfriends. Ridiculous!!

Luckily I nipped that in the bud and he still says penis. Phew!

rainbowinthesky · 14/03/2011 07:13

Can't bear made up names for body parts. Always been penis, testicles and vulva for dd in our house. Shock at the poster who said they dont even have a term for their dd's vulva. No wonder so many girls grow up with such skewed body images Sad.

meditrina · 14/03/2011 07:21

"Can't bear made up names for body parts"

So it's " cock" and "balls" in your house then? They predate the imported Latinate euphemisms by several centuries.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 14/03/2011 07:26

I asked ds the other day if he could remember the 'correct' names for what he knows as his willy and balls he said 'of course mummy, peanuts and plums' Grin

flootshoot · 14/03/2011 07:37

I always wonder about people who insist on the correct anatomical terms. Do you refer to abdomens/cranium etc. As well, rather than tummy/head? Or buttocks/glutes instead of bottoms? If so, fair enough. If not, I think it speaks of hang ups.....

meditrina · 14/03/2011 07:42

I've often wondered if their children use their Latinately-named parts to perform the Latinately-named actions of urinating and defecating, rather than peeing and pooing (like every small child I've heard).

Despite asking this on several threads of this type, I've never spotted an answer.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/03/2011 07:46

Your undercrackers are your pants.

DD doesn't have a specific name for hers, neither did I. It hasn't come up yet.
