It DOES matter. You're not supposed to do a quick lineout if the ball goes into the crowd. Not really about the ball, more about the fact that one team wasn't hurrying to get ready as they thought they had time to regroup because the ball went into the crowd, but the other team took a quick lineout illegally and the ref didn't back down.

Hopefully this is just the effects of attempting to adopt the modern style of play and it will click in time for the world cup, however this change should have been made 6 months earlier than it was. England adopted the new style at the tail end of the summer and are reaping the rewards now, if Ireland hit form in time for the world cup it will be more by luck than design.
