I mean, it's not like your knickers need a full cycle to get clean?

DH and I wash our smalls after a shower/bath - they are never in the main laundry. My kids boxers/knickers are washed in washing machine with the rest of theit laundry though.

I thought about this this morning when I went to drop off my friends son. My friend had the whole washing line outside full of boxers and knickers!

YABU, that's gross. I don't know anyone that would do that!

usualsuspect · 12/03/2011 12:48

do you get in the shower wearing your pants? and wash them at the same time

Phlebas · 12/03/2011 12:48

Shock that's really unpleasant.

Why are the kids pants washed in the machine?
What's different about them that they need a full cycle when adult pants don't?
Personally I put everything in together.

What ShirleyKnot said.

Hatesponge · 12/03/2011 12:50

I wash all mine in the washing machine now, however back in my uni days (when I had more time!) I used to handwash all undies, two main reasons:

  1. I had quite a lot of delicate silk/satin stuff which I wasnt sure would survive a washing machine;
  1. Our laundry room was shared by the whole college (200+ students). If you weren't there when your wash finished someone would unload it and leave it in a basket so they could put theirs in...and there was no way I was having some of my fellow students handling my underwear Grin
Meglet · 12/03/2011 12:50

yabu. I do a couple of loads everyday so nothing sits in the dirty laundry basket for very long.

JaneS · 12/03/2011 12:50

Oh, that is disgusting.

TragicallyHip · 12/03/2011 12:52

Eww what do you use to wash them?

YABU!

PorkChopSter · 12/03/2011 12:53

Rank.

But not as rank as my uni housemate using the dishwashing up brush to hand wash his pants in the washing up bowl.

NoWayNoHow · 12/03/2011 12:53

Weird thread. What's the problem if they're in with rest of the washing that's getting done anyway?

YABU

onehotmomma · 12/03/2011 12:53

The only time I've hand washed my underwear is when my washing machine broke....

usualsuspect · 12/03/2011 12:53

Still its better than your Mil washing them I suppose Wink

Laquitar · 12/03/2011 12:54

Please OP put them in the w/m for a good wash.
Don't feel guilty or lazy thats what w/m are fot.

And stop spying on your friends washing, life is too short.

KatieMiddleton · 12/03/2011 12:54

This, I second. pork, WHY did he need to brush?! No, wait, I don't want to know, do I?

FabbyChic · 12/03/2011 12:57

Yabu. A washing machine is there for washing, you can never wash anything by hand as good, and you certainly wouldnt get the same rinse cycle, or even get them as dry by wringing them out with your bear hands.

PorkChopSter · 12/03/2011 12:59

The real issue is how many times he did it before we discovered that's how he was doing it.

Because he could see no problem with doing it.

wendylovesbob · 12/03/2011 12:59

Wait... is it

(a) "it's not like your knickers need a full cycle to get clean?" ie they are not as dirty as your other clothes which presumably do need a full cycle to get clean.

or

(b) "I think its rank too keep dirty underwear for a few days whilst waiting for laundry day!" ie your underwear is ^dirtier" than your other clothes and needs immediate attention?

fifi25 · 12/03/2011 13:00

Yabu just but the light knickers in with the lights and the dark ones in with the darks. You dont have to do a seperate underwear wash Confused

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 12/03/2011 13:00

Your hygiene arguement just doesn't add up

YABU (and by now you must know it!)

I do darks lights and whites washes (a several times a week) and everything clothes wise goes in.

worraliberty · 12/03/2011 13:01

OMG if you change your underwear and bath/shower every day, it should certainly not be rank
