to be amazed that so many women have never felt their own cervix?

Admittedly I may be biased but I do think it is peculiar that so many women haven't explored their own bodies and even more peculiar that so many women think it is peculiar that I think it is peculiar.

I have tried and tried and I can't find it!

valiumredhead · 10/03/2011 17:49

Squat down hairylights

Sorry, that sounds SO wrong Blush

NotJustKangaskhan · 10/03/2011 18:05

Between the mooncup and the cervical cap, I'm quite well aquainted with mine Wink.

VajazzHands · 10/03/2011 18:09

Really your amazed? So many things in this world to be amazed by and this is what you spend time worrying about?

I can't feel mine btw too high up Confused

I don't like the tone of the OP- it's making non cervix explorers feel slightly ostracized. If you have a cap or a coil or you're interested, then fine, but none of these apply to me and I am no less a person than you for it.

My cervix is high and round a corner and I hate smears (still have them tho) so why on earth do I need or want to feel something that is tucked away where it should be? It doesn't mean I am ignorant or disinterested in my body.

I may be feeling touchy today (no pun intended) but these "I don't understand women who don't want to" comments are getting on my nerves.

Bah cervical humbugs.

ViolaTricolor · 10/03/2011 18:23

Nesta, sorry if my comment was one that came across in that spirit. It really wasn't meant that way, but as a genuine expression of curiosity about how other women feel.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/03/2011 18:25

I've felt thousands of other peoples' cervixes but not my own - can't reach it.

mmsmum · 10/03/2011 18:27

LOL

OP how do you know that 'so many women' have never explored? Have you conducted a survey? I'm sure I wasn't asked!

Badgerwife · 10/03/2011 18:30

seriously? YABU Just because it's accessible doesn't mean I've got to go get a feel. What could you hope to gain from it anyway? Eww gross

theborrower · 10/03/2011 18:31

Yep, I have - before and during us trying to conceive. Having been on a pill for 10 years that had stopped my periods, I had forgotten what my cycle was like. It made sense to be aware of all my bodily changes to know when I was ovulating. I never thought that was peculiar, but I guess if someone has no reason to go exploring (other than curiosity), then it probably doesn't cross their mind.

dawntigga · 10/03/2011 18:37

The amount of women who have no idea what their fanjo looks like healthy and don't check it amazes me. I check mine - 2 mirrors and the bathroom floor - every month. You can get cancer of the fanjo.

bebemooneedsabreak · 10/03/2011 18:45

I've had a good feel for mine, sometimes it's easy to find other times not. (mines rather tilted back too) and have seen that Beautiful cervix page too...(showed the page to dh because I knew he'd find it fascinating also). I guess a lot of it was just curiosity on my part. Plus there's nothing like knowing as much about your self/your body as you can have access to...I'd love to have a look/feel of other places too if I had a chance tbh.

controlpantsandgladrags · 10/03/2011 18:47

Never tried to find it but have a feeling I wouldn't be able to reach.....the nurse always has a good moan about my difficult to find cervix at every smear. I have a coil now though, so goodness knows how I'm going to check it!

onlion · 10/03/2011 18:48

Why would you want to feel your cervix anyway? weird

NestaFiesta · 10/03/2011 18:49

Tigga- fanjo and cervix are two different matters. I couldn't see my cervix with two mirrors even if I tried. Nurse couldn't even find it with a speculum for smear and midwife had trouble finding it when inducing me at 9m pregnant.

valiumredhead · 10/03/2011 18:50

Why not? Grin

AllTheYoungDoods · 10/03/2011 18:51

I've been told mine's in a funny place. That might explain why I don't get on with tampons, and frankly the idea of me being able to get a cap in - or out HOW HOW HOW? - or use a mooncup just seems laughable.

Am TTCing. Might as well book the CS now mighten'd I, there's no way anything's coming out of there!

valiumredhead · 10/03/2011 18:54

I've been told mine's in a funny place.

Where exactly? Grin

Bumperlicious · 10/03/2011 18:57

One of my nct group gave herself a diy sweep when pg Shock

onlion · 10/03/2011 18:59

Ive never had a desire to wonder.
Ive had one child and thats it, Im not that fussed about my cervix.

AllTheYoungDoods · 10/03/2011 18:59

I don't know, they weren't very explicit. And seeing as they were poking me with an ice-cold spculum at the time, I didn't feel in a position to chat!

I think the general idea is quite a way back, up, and tilted. Not, like, in my inner ear canal or something Grin

valiumredhead · 10/03/2011 19:00

I have often wondered about that Bumperlicious as I had a section. It looks so painful when they do it on One Born Every Minute, can you not have a good old rummage yourself? Grin

sittinghippo · 10/03/2011 19:17

I too have wondered that Bumperlicious. I had a sweep yesterday and it was bloody painful! If I were doing that to myself surely it would hurt also??

Have never felt the need to feel my own cervix, and to be honest, I didnt realise it was possible. I'm not completely thick, even studied A Level Biology, I just sort of assumed trying to touch your cervix would be like trying to touch your own ovary. ie Impossible. Confused

Etalb · 10/03/2011 19:39

FFS this is a freakish post - I'm scared and want to go home!!!!!!!!
