to be amazed that so many women have never felt their own cervix?

Admittedly I may be biased but I do think it is peculiar that so many women haven't explored their own bodies and even more peculiar that so many women think it is peculiar that I think it is peculiar.

I wouldn't have a clue what mine felt like if I went for a rummage. Also seeing as drs and nurses frequently complain about being unable to find it I doubt I would be able to either.

BettyCash · 10/03/2011 16:43

@Biddy

It's not going to be anyone else's cervix up there, is it? Hmm

ExitPursuedByALamb · 10/03/2011 16:43

I had to feel mine when I was being taught how to fit a cap. Did I really use one???

bronze · 10/03/2011 16:44

"Do you have a rummage in ALL your orifices or just that one?"

Just the ones where things go. So in my case not my arse but yes I have stuck my finger up my nose and in my ears etc.

What? My uvula is an accessible part of me, but I don't poke it to see if it feels different from one day to the next.

Ah Glynis, you just haven't met the right girl yet. (kidding)

ClaireDeLoon · 10/03/2011 16:45

I tried to find mine in the early, enthusiastic stages of ttc. I could never find it. Since then various smears and gynae exams have revealed it it very tilted and deep. Am I therefore excused?

RightUpMyRue · 10/03/2011 16:45

I've felt mine loads. I had a coil and you're supposed to check your strings each month which involves feeling your cervix. Before the coil I wasn't in the habit of feeling it often, you know, for fun but had felt it on a few occasions.

I think it's important for those who want to explore any part of their own body to feel able to do so without being thought a complete freak if they tell someone else but equally for those who feel no desire to explore their bodies no judgement should be made about them being uninterested in themselves or uptight or whatever. Your body, your choice.

JeremyVile · 10/03/2011 16:45

Oh so no actual need to then?

Is it any more peculiar than not feelnig your own tonsils?

fizzyliftinggas · 10/03/2011 16:46

Storminacup I have looked at that site, sorry to hear of your cancer.
I however don't see the need to look at it or feel it, surely if you are having regular smears you don't need to be shoving your hand up there to rummage?

DelicateFluffyBunny · 10/03/2011 16:46

I have a chart where I write what position, the feel and if it's open or closed on every day. And note what kind of CM I have every day.

bronze · 10/03/2011 16:46

Have you never tried to touch your tonsils as a child?
Grin

medicalmayhem · 10/03/2011 16:47

yes i have felt mine,i have to on the odd occasion to make sure coil is still there, but if i have smear or coil fitted i usually have to put my fists under my bottom to raise the cervix up as it tilts back too much for nurse to find it!!

littlebylittle · 10/03/2011 16:48

No prob if you want to. I think I have but not sure why I would need or want to or what problem it would cause if I didn't.

fizzyliftinggas · 10/03/2011 16:48

But Rightupmyrue I absolutely agree if people want to thats fine, not weird or freakish, but the OP's question is an amazement at how many people haven't....

AtYourCervix · 10/03/2011 16:48

girl after my own heart fluffy Grin

smears are 3 years apart - you might grow another one in that time and you'd never notice if you didn't have a furtle.

BiddytheKnackerwoman · 10/03/2011 16:49

The word 'rummage' has lost all meaning.

HecateTheCrone · 10/03/2011 16:49

I have never needed to.

I don't touch any part of my body that I don't need to.

I don't touch my eyeballs, for example. Grin

dementedma · 10/03/2011 16:50

This has to be the most bizarre thread ever! Why the F would you want to????
so, no, never have, don't intend to either

RightUpMyRue · 10/03/2011 16:50

Well, they haven't because they don't want to. Nothing amazing there, people are different.

AintMissBeehiving · 10/03/2011 16:51

I am very Envy of those people who have time for cervix footling. TBH it's right at the bottom of my "To Do" list along with cleaning the kitchen with a toothbrush. I don't even get the time to go to the loo on my own let alone rootling around in my nether regions.

southeastastra · 10/03/2011 16:51

have to say i find it odd that people don't even want to! can't help but feel mine Grin

AtYourCervix · 10/03/2011 16:51

go on you lot - i dare you. go and have a feel and report back what you found. it's interting, honest.
