I know someone posted yesterday but I cant find the thread but I;ve just received mine in the post today.

For those who havent got theirs it is pages and pages long.

How the frig can knowing about my qualifications, ethnic origin, how many O levels I got have any bearing on what public transport to provide.

Why the fuck do they need to know what I do for a living and why should I 'briefly describe what I do'. How is that going to help them decide what health care to provide.

I mean, why do they need to know how many rooms I have, what heating system it has.

Such a gross invasion of privacy.

Where does it say that by law I have signed up for this shit.

Here.

TheDogsBollocks · 08/03/2011 15:05

it is such a load of bollocks, honestly.

If it wasn't mandatory to reply, I would have binned it.

KnittedBreast · 08/03/2011 15:05

I really wish there was a way out of this. at least a box to tick to refuse answers. even lieing on the form is an offence.

crockydoodle · 08/03/2011 15:06

By law, you have to return it. It's not just about health, there are other things too that need planned for such as infrastructure and education.

I had a quick look at this morning. If there is more than one adult in the house, why does only one person have to fill in all the stuff about qualifications etc?

BuzzLiteBeer · 08/03/2011 15:08

Oh get a grip. Citizens have responsibilities as well as rights, suck it up and spend 10 mins doing a simple job.

vj32 · 08/03/2011 15:09

Do you think someone is going to go through and read it? Its data collection for planning and for the future. So in 100 years your great grandkids can look you up and find out what you did for a living. I personally think they are a great concept and will be sad if they are scrapped.

KnittedBreast · 08/03/2011 15:09

can you not just write i dont know in the box.

or i refuse to represent persona xxxx (your name)

i watched a lecture (dont ask me where i forget) where they were talking about the only reason you have to have a name is so they can tax you. dousnt surprise me.

a human being cannot be a thing of something, so your name becomes official and they use you the person as a representative of the name and so a way to extract money in way of tax. you are signed up to this without consent (as you are a baby). im sure the way out if at all was to serve the queen with ... a strange latin document i forget the name of.

intresting man, he tours alot....

NinkyNonker · 08/03/2011 15:09

I just did it online, took 10 mins max.

clitorisorclitoraint · 08/03/2011 15:12

I did it yesterday in 10 mins. 'twas no big thing.

jazz412 · 08/03/2011 16:49

knitted breast I wonder whether this video might interest you? It's a 5 minute video about our "straw man"
Let me know what you think of it :)

nickelprincess · 08/03/2011 16:52

I still don't know what I'm supposed to do with this one that's been sent to the shop - there's noone living here, so do i return it as "address not residential"? or do i wait until the collectors come round?

LadyThumb · 08/03/2011 16:52

I know a couple of you have said you've done it online, but I thought it couldn't be done until 27th March?

nocake · 08/03/2011 16:56

Knittedbreast, I think you might be thinking about the "freeman on the land" movement which is a load of bllcks.

DramaInPyjamas · 08/03/2011 16:57

I'm all for it. As someone who is researching their family history at the moment, looking at the old censuses(censi?) is fascinating.

I do agree that some of the questions are a bit ott though.

Tinkerisdead · 08/03/2011 17:01

I'm well into family history and rely heavily on census information but you've asked what relevance do your qualifications have etc. Since 1921 more and more questions have been added for different reasons.

You are asked about qualification as it will show how things like the recession effect us. So if you are educated to degree standard but you are unemployed it shows that reasons for high umemployment arent down to lack of qualification.

The number of rooms in your home will show how our living space has evolved in 1900 you would have multiple families living in one house. That would be rare nowadays and so it shows how we live evolving.

Its about far more than how many schools or hospitals to build.

RustyRainbow · 08/03/2011 17:02

I too thought it shouldn't be done until the 27th..

Rabat · 08/03/2011 17:02

It will all be very interesting for your descendents/distant relatives in 100 years time though Wink.

Hopefully, most people will be in the important bits as accurately as they can. I am pretty sure I ticked 'Christian' in 1991, despite being an atheist for as long as I can remember. I get it now though Blush...being Christened does not make you a Christian!

nickelprincess · 08/03/2011 17:06

"a human being cannot be a thing of something, so your name becomes official and they use you the person as a representative of the name and so a way to extract money in way of tax. you are signed up to this without consent (as you are a baby)."

i take it you don't use the nhs then?
and you didn't go to school?

valiumredhead · 08/03/2011 17:27

Such a gross invasion of privacy.

Trifle - do you use a Supermarket reward card? Facebook? They know as much about you and your spending habits/address etc than the census!

m0nkeynuts · 08/03/2011 18:33

For those wondering about whether you have to wait until 27th to do it:

"Q. How long do I have to fill in the 2011 census form?
A. The form must be filled in before, on or just after census day (27 March) and submit or return it as soon as you have finished. "

NinkyNonker · 08/03/2011 19:08

I don't get all the angst. I filled in our household's last night (2 adults one baby) and it took less than 10 mins start to finish.

All adult's quals were requested.

Choufleur · 08/03/2011 19:19

It should only take a bout 5 mins per person. the paper form looks scarier than it is.

2cats2many · 08/03/2011 19:23

I wish people would stop moaning about this and just do it. It's ONCE every ten years FFS. And like many people have already posted, it really doesn't take that long. Just get on with it.

exoticfruits · 08/03/2011 19:24

How can you do it now-anything might happen by 27th?
