about the dog tied up outside the co op (long)

this isn't a who ties their dog outside a shop thread. i went to the co-op at 3.30, it shuts at 4. i was v quick just buying bread etc. there was a sprollie tied up outside on a very very frayed lead, dirty dog etc. initial response was ok mebbe its an old lead and dog has been on particularly muddy walk. the dog was whining barking howling, not just, mums in the shop im going to fuss, but a bit more than that. i bought my stuff and i couldn't walk away, i stayed in the car park thinking that the dog had been abandoned. i wanted to wait to see if someone came out to get him. i waited from about twenty to four til ten past and finally the owner came out. KICKED and then slapped the dog in the snout for whining and went in the chemist next door. at that point i had to go over and say wtf are you doing, your dog is clearly distressed you just kicked it you ahole and now your leaving it again. for my trouble i got told to "eff off you fat bitch its my dog". so. i took pictures of dog and owner, AIBU to think i should report this?

Please report it, and well done for confronting the owner. Some people should not own dogs, reading your thread made me feel real sad. I have a dog myself and wouldn't dream of taking him to the shops and leaving him outside.

i dont leave my dog outside shops, well we walk to the paper shop with him off lead and he sits by the door while i get a paper but i wouldn't leave him outside a shop where i couldnt see him ever. i was more worried that the dog had been abandoned. i think im going to report it. i felt so so sorry for the poor dog. and i wanted to floor the bitch :-/

and she was one of those scary welly wearing i drive a landrover so therefore i know more about dogs than you type of women. that dog was filthy, the lead was frayed and old and dangerous. had there been another dog and a situation the lead would NOT have held. it made me v angry that i was stood in a car park in the freezing rain thinking i want to take your dog home!

poor dog i would definitely report it not so much the leaving the dog outside the shop i do that if i take my dog to asda but the overall neglect of the dog, it being dirty on a scruffy lead and no one should slap and kick an animal, if she did this in public makes you wonder what sort of treatment the dog gets at home rspca definitely,

Aaaaaw Im scared that if I left my dog outside a shop someone would take him! So I never have and not sure he would like it.

I can't abide people who treat dogs badly, they become part of your family and for me mine has become my baby!

oh i wouldnt have taken him FabbyChic, i just meant i felt so bad for him that i almost wished he HAD been abandoned so then i could take him.

i have just called out local rspca shelter and left a message with her description and car registration number.

issey - my point exactly - if she feels comfortable behaving that way towards her dog in public then i can barely imagine how the animal is treated at home. every person that came out of the shop he spoke to (you know, that low whine, come help me whine) and a few of the older gents went over, he lay down immediately, and i dont think it was because he wanted to, his ears and tail went down but tail was going slow and low, it was because he felt he HAD to.

someone did take my jack russell to the police station once, he was a howler too, i had left him outside a shop for maybe 5 minutes and two young lads thought he had been abandonded luckily the policeman saw the funny side of it and i got my dog back very quickly mind you the one mile walk there and back home with two young children wasnt so funny

My dog has never been abused and is spoilt rotten, he gets loads of cuddles as he is my baby. Sometimes when I go to stroke him he lies flat. Not sure why he is scared though. Me loves him. He is the pic on my profile here.

issey - i hear you but if you had seen this dog, honestly, he was so so dirty, he was holding up his hind leg as if in pain, the lead was about 200 years old etc. etc.

it wasnt so much laying down for a tummy rub it was, well as i said i stayed in the car park for half an hour, a couple of old fellas went up to him and he just flopped, not for a tummy rub but in that way dogs do when they know that if they DON'T then its going to mean a kicking. ears down, tail down but wagging (nervous) eyes all around. it was awful. it is still upsetting me now. i think my sad ass dog is playing on it, he has just brought me his pack of pigs ears. manipulative dog!

maybe im too soft but i cannot stand it. it makes me want to run people over, and then reverse back over them, and then go again to make sure they are REALLY dead. i HATE animal cruelty. its like slapping a newborn baby around. what can a dog do? bite? how many adult dogs really bite? very few.

poor dog definitely sounds like hes been treated badly, my dog does the flinch sometimes i dont know why no one in 12 years has ever done anything nasty to her, hopefully the rspca will follow up your report and i think your very clever dog deserves his pigs ear

i hope to get a call back tomorrow, i already volunteer at rspca near me so hopefully something can happen. im very happy to take him on although how scamp feels is a different matter. he's a sneaky beggar (male - of course). i would be hard pressed to not flatten the ho if i see her in the street this week.

Well done for reporting her! Please follow this up with the RSPCA to see if they have taken action and let us know. I can't stand cruelty to animals.

i reported my own sister for animal cruelty (thats bad isnt it) but i did. i wont stand for it. they dont have voices.

as you can see from my id i have 6 cats until just before christmas it was 5 cats then a family member died and we ended up taking on a 16 yr old grumpy indoor cat who has lived as an only cat, my lot all get on and though its taken a while there is a truce in the house and he will now come down into the kitchen to eat, it depends if you are serious about taking him on how your dog normally reacts to other dogs, i work at haworth cat rescue as a volunteer and when someone has a resident cat we always asses the cat we have and the cat thwey have to see if a match is compatible before considering rehoming, and i probably would have ended up in the nick for assaulting the womman

my dog is a peach, he is wary of the cat (altho i think the cat may have been hannibal lecter in a previousu life - he is a scary cat!). i also foster dogs for the blind and have recently fostered a police dog, my oldest fella died last november and we have his grandson :-)

i struggle very much, and some times i admit i am OTT, but there are SO many people who should NOT have dogs, but do. oooh i cant stop my dog from pulling on the lead. its reallly easy. dont walk. he pulls, you stop. it takes about 4 weeks. its easy. but NOBODY wants to bother with the effort.

my dog knows who the bosses are in our house and they are all feline lol but then again she is about the same size as the cats so they just treat her as another funny shaped cat, and she has been here longer than them so she was in the house first just realised its nearly 1am so goodnight please update on the poor dog

I agree you should report the woman. As others have said, animals don't have voices and the cruelty can be appalling. I rescued a dog from a killing station several years ago and she STILL suffers from the scars both mental and physical (ear infections from too many whacks on the side of the head etc). Bless her though, she's wonderful. If it helps, I'd have rung RSPCA like a shot if I'd seen that sort of behaviour.

And I think you're fantastic for standing in the freezing rain worrying.

issey - scamp is quaking in his boots - give him sheep and he's good (border collie) but i fear my slightly mad, dropped on his head by his mother, cat will win out!

defo waiting for call tomorrow about the poor dog, still picturing the fella its so upsetting. he was a big lad. defo sprollie. would love to take him on and if not, home him somewhere perfect for him.

so so sad, that people treat their "pets" this way.

@ Janoschi my very first "my" dog was when i was 13 and somebody had left a lurcher outside the spar (northern!) i waited for over an hour to see if somneone came to get her, they didnt, i asked the staff how long she had been there, 3 hours plus, so we took her home. she became ours! she was an ex race dog, altho she wasnt a GH, she was a lurcher. she had the tattoo in her ear.

Exetereasy,I have 2 dogs and don't like cruelty to animals,but why are you so bothered about other peoples dogs pulling.You seem to want everyone to want to do everything perfectly all the time.Sometimes people can't be bothered,but maybe thay have plenty of other problems in their lives and their dog pulling isn't such a bif issue for them.stop being so judgey.I'm sure there are things in your life you don't do perfectly.
