this isn't a who ties their dog outside a shop thread. i went to the co-op at 3.30, it shuts at 4. i was v quick just buying bread etc. there was a sprollie tied up outside on a very very frayed lead, dirty dog etc. initial response was ok mebbe its an old lead and dog has been on particularly muddy walk. the dog was whining barking howling, not just, mums in the shop im going to fuss, but a bit more than that. i bought my stuff and i couldn't walk away, i stayed in the car park thinking that the dog had been abandoned. i wanted to wait to see if someone came out to get him. i waited from about twenty to four til ten past and finally the owner came out. KICKED and then slapped the dog in the snout for whining and went in the chemist next door. at that point i had to go over and say wtf are you doing, your dog is clearly distressed you just kicked it you ahole and now your leaving it again. for my trouble i got told to "eff off you fat bitch its my dog". so. i took pictures of dog and owner, AIBU to think i should report this?

report the bastard, poor dog was crying for help

catwhiskers10 · 28/02/2011 11:52

Well done OP for confronting the owner and I wish more people would take action when they see animals being abused.
knittedbreast I'm quite shocked at some of your comments on this post. It appears you think it's ok to physically abuse animals as long as they belong to you and no-one has the right to intervene. I wonder if you have been reported for something in the past and this is why you feel so strongly about this post.

Vallhala · 28/02/2011 11:56

Right. So kicking a dog is on a par with dropped litter is it, KnittedTwat?

You said that "If im the only one who thinks thats fucking rediculous I give up."

Well give up then. The sooner the better because the only "creepy" and "fucking stupid" person i and the other posters on here can see is you.

pinkfluffyprincess · 28/02/2011 11:58

hopefully if someone assaults you (quite likely I'd say) you'll just be left to fend for yourself. You're just a pathetic troll anyway.

KnittedBreast · 28/02/2011 11:59

Ive never been reported for anything in my life thank you, and would never hurt an animal. I would think again if i were you before incinuating otherwise.

KnittedBreast · 28/02/2011 12:02

oh shit, i am sorry.

I didnt realise that Valhalwhatever has been elected as the voice of MN.

I do apologise, i hadnt realised you were speaking as the collective "we".

corns12k · 28/02/2011 12:05

well done OP

christmaswishes · 28/02/2011 12:08

I can't stand cruelty. They are evil people around - they should be given the same treatment! Poor poor dog Better at animal shelter than being beaten every day.

pinkfluffyprincess · 28/02/2011 12:11

"I'd think again if I were you".
Grin Why what ya gonna do wierdo

catsmother · 28/02/2011 12:14

For God's sake KB have you never heard of compassion ? Quite obviously, the OP instinctively felt something wasn't right with this dog and hung about - which I think was a responsible thing to do - to check if it was okay and/or abandonned. The OP was also very brave to confront the bitch owner and to report her.

As for comparing her actions to cars and litter that's pathetic and you must know that so why are you persisting in being so bloody unpleasant ? Children and animals are entirely different and there are 1001 well known tragic cases where maybe if someone had acted on a hunch and/or got involved sooner then we wouldn't have had to read about it in the papers, and most importantly, there wouldn't have been victims to write about.

There is nothing self serving or embarrassing (FFS) in waiting when you don't like the look of something. I admire the OP for doing this instead of looking the other way.

KnittedBreast · 28/02/2011 12:20

but im not talking about that am i? im saying i dont agree with strangers waiting around watching other peoples pets based on the dog being a bit dirty and on a thin leash.

im not going to do anything, but suggesting ive ever abused an animal is dodgy ground to be on.

catsmother · 28/02/2011 12:27

Well, no-one's suggesting you should start "waiting around" watching other people's pets so why you've reacted so strongly to someone else doing so God knows. The point is that the OP felt instinctively that there may be something wrong - and she was proved right. On its own a grubby dog wouldn't make me think that necessarily but sometimes you get a hunch based on the animal's demeanour as well as its appearance.

MmeLindt · 28/02/2011 12:35

Um, don't know why you are picking Valhalla up on being the voice of MN. In case you haven't noticed, you are the only one on this thread arguing that the OP should have minded her own business.

That might be a gentle hint.

Vallhala · 28/02/2011 12:40

KnittedTwat, I see an awful lot of abused dogs, sadly, as a result of what I do in a voluntary capacity. I become aware of a lot more as a result of the campaign work I do.

Over the course of several years of heartbreaking experience and knowledge I have concluded - as have not only most fellow rescuers and AR campaigners but most normal human beings - that turning a blind eye to abuse is condoning it and that animal abuse often leads to abuse upon children.

I don't claim to speak for MN. I speak for the animals who cannot speak for themselves and I speak for civilised society... of which you are not a member.

I would have done the same. Animals are the most vulnerable members of society, dogs can't speak up for themselves and are usually too gentle and patient and trusting to fight back against their abusive owners. If we don't stand up for them then who will?

Comparisons with badly parked cars and litter are ridiculous. Cars and litter aren't alive and don't suffer pain and fear. Unbelievable that anyone needs to have that explained to them...

captainchaos · 28/02/2011 14:35

actually, (on dog welfare related matters) valhalla kind of is the voice of MN.

just sayin'

justcarrots29 · 28/02/2011 15:21

The Op had a hunch and she was right, the dog was being mistreated. Knowing what we know the op was right to hang around.

I am not sure what the RSPCA can do without an address though?

Ephiny · 28/02/2011 15:26

Maybe they can do something with the car registration number Confused, I'm not sure exactly what their 'powers' are though and what they tend to do in cases like this.

Still better to report than ignore IMO.

Melly19MummyToBe · 02/03/2011 15:21

exteriseasy, do we have any updates on the dog yet?

Melly19MummyToBe · 02/03/2011 15:22

*ExeterisEasy I mean Blush

BooyFuckingHoo · 02/03/2011 15:28

in what world is it a creepy thing to do to make sure an animal is being cared for properly? Confused

who on earth wouldn't hang about for a while if they were concerned about an animal's welfare?
