To think that a forum...

Should be properly moderated and that the owner of the website the forum belongs to should care at least a little about it? Especially when it's a subscription forum that many people have paid for.

BMC was recently hacked, or so we were told by a moderator who advised us to change our passwords. Many of us were concerned about what other details they may have been able to access but in 24 hours we have had one message from the site owner saying it hasn't been hacked after all and to be kind to the mods.

Thing is, odd things are happening, random people are being banned for no reason - and then getting insults (tosser being one of them) sent to them when they try and request a new password. So we think there is some kind of hacker.

Now loads of new names are appearing, previously banned people are re registering and not being re-banned and it's all a bit of a shambles. Not one single word has been uttered by a moderator since yesterday afternoon, we think they may have all jumped ship and frankly who could blame them.

BMC (badmothersclub.co.uk for anyone who doesn't know it and no we actually are not bad parents) has been a great little site, so many of us have had such great support from it's members over the years.

So anyway AIBU to think someone should be keeping paying members informed and trying to sort this mess out?

Can you ask on there? can't see what its got to do with MN

southeastastra · 25/02/2011 23:26

yes - is that why mn is nuts these days?

nibbler011 · 25/02/2011 23:29

It hasn't got anything to do with MN apart from that I'm also a member here and so are many of the other bmc ladies. There isn't anyone there to ask. Mods have left the building, and this is the forum with the AIBU section so I'm asking here.

It's not like I'm asking anyone here to fix it so i don't see what your problem is, usualsuspect.

YANBU.
I've been a member of both for a good few years and like both for different reasons, but it's a complete shambles at the moment which is very sad.

Nobody in any kind of authority there gives a shit any more Sad

If the mods have left the building, I suggest you follow and start writing demands for refunds

usualsuspect · 25/02/2011 23:45

I haven't got a problem .. just don't see why you are asking here ...

OnEdge · 25/02/2011 23:46

balloonballs well why not fuck off then ?

Clunge · 25/02/2011 23:47

Why not usual suspect?? I didn't realise there were specific topics that we were allowed/not allowed to discuss.

Now, back to lentil knitting...

PaisleyLeaf · 25/02/2011 23:47

How much do you pay for that then?

usualsuspect · 25/02/2011 23:47

FFS

usualsuspect · 25/02/2011 23:50

you could always discuss this thread over there

oh wait ....

balloonballs · 25/02/2011 23:50

Oh dear. You realise you sound unhinged?

Cancel your subscription and walk away would be the common sense thing to do, as galling as it must be to be forced away from your friends it sounds like it's necessary.

MmeLindt · 25/02/2011 23:53

What is the problem with discussing this here?

There are a fair few MNetters who also post on BMC (I don't) so perhaps the OP is hoping someone will know more.

nibbler011 · 25/02/2011 23:53

thanks madamdeathstare, exactly.

Or maybe they were just bored Wink

Glitterknickaz · 25/02/2011 23:54

I don't pay for it at all... any more.
It's not worth it for the tech numptyness and security.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 25/02/2011 23:56

I saw a thread about BMC and paypal or hacking or something the other day

I am sorry, it sounds a shambles, and Mners owe a debt of gratitude to BMC for their support during the SWSNBM affair

and yes, cancel and stay here, yes?

MotherF · 25/02/2011 23:56

What is also dreadful, is they banned (and the member was then named) a poor innocent girl as the alleged hacker.

Her crime was to have lost her password and she emailed the mods for a new one, the hacker/rogue mod then sent her one (was a rude password too) so she gained access to her acct there again. This apparently means she is guilty of being the hacker.

She has heard nothing from the mods or the site owner.

tethersend · 25/02/2011 23:59

Maybe the mothers are badder than you realised?

I would never pay to subscribe to a site.

Am i the only one who thinks like this?

nibbler011 · 26/02/2011 00:01

Yes I intend to stay here! I will keep an eye on BMC for now though to see what the outcome of all this is, the owner was alluding to pulling the plug on the site and if they can get anyone willing to volunteer as a moderator now I'll be very surprised.
