To think that a forum...

Should be properly moderated and that the owner of the website the forum belongs to should care at least a little about it? Especially when it's a subscription forum that many people have paid for.

BMC was recently hacked, or so we were told by a moderator who advised us to change our passwords. Many of us were concerned about what other details they may have been able to access but in 24 hours we have had one message from the site owner saying it hasn't been hacked after all and to be kind to the mods.

Thing is, odd things are happening, random people are being banned for no reason - and then getting insults (tosser being one of them) sent to them when they try and request a new password. So we think there is some kind of hacker.

Now loads of new names are appearing, previously banned people are re registering and not being re-banned and it's all a bit of a shambles. Not one single word has been uttered by a moderator since yesterday afternoon, we think they may have all jumped ship and frankly who could blame them.

BMC (badmothersclub.co.uk for anyone who doesn't know it and no we actually are not bad parents) has been a great little site, so many of us have had such great support from it's members over the years.

So anyway AIBU to think someone should be keeping paying members informed and trying to sort this mess out?

Maybe they have ran off with the christmas club money

TheCrunchyOne · 26/02/2011 00:02

it's painfully obvious the site owner doesn't give a flying f* about the site, just the revenue it generates.

MotherF · 26/02/2011 00:04

No Hymie, I agree.

I left when subs came in as I felt people were being lied too. I returned when subs were an option to joining but not a necessity.

tethersend · 26/02/2011 00:04

They'll rename it Baaad Motherfuckers Club.

Maryz.... thank you

MotherF · 26/02/2011 00:06

You taking my MotherFocking name in vein ;)

balloonballs · 26/02/2011 00:07

Maryz is a lady, and much more articulate than me.

Glitterknickaz · 26/02/2011 00:07

Maryz.... how many times on MN are media/other sources derided for considering there to be a 'MN type'?

Please don't tar all site users with the same brush.

As I said before I've been using both sites for some time for different reasons.

MotherF · 26/02/2011 00:09

Maryz. Every site has its bad members/good members/ kind/unkind/stirrers and bullies.

You had 'some' members, not everyone should be tainted by their behaviour.

Maryz... I don't think anyone wanted to cause trouble they were as entitled to their opinions as the people posting things they didn't agree with and often being hostile... as this thread is. I don't get it.

Don't get us mixed up the the nags head ebay thing... noticed that happening a few times.

We have had a number of MN users pop up on BMC some nice, some pop in when this site has been down and a couple who really were looking for trouble.

I take people as I find them as individuals. There are a few on the other site who I detest with a passion as they are nasty/stirrers/bullies but the good and kind are vaster in numbers, thankfully.

MmeLindt · 26/02/2011 00:22

Mary
MNHQ posted that the really horrible trolls came from eBay forum not BMC, iirc

nibbler011 · 26/02/2011 00:26

Yes must agree with MF we have had some lovely posters from MN join us.

Anyway I'm done being an ambassador for a site I'm currently very pissed off with

Also will add I haven't paid but some other poor sods ladies have

blimey there are pages of slagging off mn on there - seriously we haven't done that on here at all - why the need? seriously shitty of them :(

zikes · 26/02/2011 11:54

I'm not sure that's an altogether fair assessment of the thread about mumsnet over there, southeastastra.

A lot of the posts seem to like quite a lot about MN, like how fast it moves and how much is going on and all that. Some of it's criticism, too, of course. Obviously they're going to like their own site better, largely.

SecretNutellaFix · 26/02/2011 11:56

I am sorry that BMC mods seem to have abandoned ship, but they may be possibly locked out themselves.

Yes, a couple of the BMC posters made me a bitHmm at times a few weeks ago, but the VAST majority appear to be decent sorts.

Maybe we haven't done the slagging off of BMC on here, but what about netmums? We are all human, and I think that we should pull together as much as we can. Let any bygones stay in the past.

Argh, ok last go at being ambassador.

That thread was started asking opinions about MN. Opinions were duly given.

Many of us wanted to leave BMC but we found it MN bewildering and that thread became a place to point out specific threads and we had some posters from MN join us and give tips on how to understand the forum (eg clicking 'active' to view new and active posts)

one or two BMC members got in spats on MN threads, mostly with the passing idiots MN gets, not the regular nice posters. Met with hostility and disagreement things escalated a bit. You will notice on that thread quite a few of us disagree with some BMC members posts and actions over here. I think some BMC members mistook the tone of the idiot posters on MN for the general feel of the place and didn't really give it a chance.

Also as zikes said there is a whole lot of comlimentary stuff about MN in that thread too.

The fighting was down to a handful of posters and it doesn't represent what we or the site are really like at all.

Back to the OP we now have old trolls re re-registering too, unmoderated. Wonderful.
