Yes.

Although she is not allowed to charge you for it.

Biscuit

You pay your childminder, why not your mother for doing the same job?

Rhinestone · 25/02/2011 19:39

More info needed. How old is your mother, how old is your son, does your mother work? Is your son a brat?!

tabulahrasa · 25/02/2011 19:40

yes, he's not her child

DaphneHeartsFred · 25/02/2011 19:41

YABU to expect her to do it, but asking for £200 when a simple "No" will do is taking the piss.

FakePlasticTrees · 25/02/2011 19:42

Is she a registered childminder? If not, she isn't allowed to charge for it. If you're going to pay £200, you should look at the costs of other childminders in the area and see if any have a temp place....

Anniepops · 25/02/2011 19:42

YANBU to ask her if she would be willing to and to hope she might, but YABU to expect her too!

spidookly · 25/02/2011 19:43

yabu

You can ask her to help out, but she's under no obligation to say yes.

saffy85 · 25/02/2011 19:43

YABU to expect your mum to take care of your son at all imo. It's a favour after all. It would be nice if she'd agree to help you out, out of the goodness of her heart though.

Bit Hmm at your mum's request for £200 but does she work herself? Because if so she might have to take the week as unpaid so be out of pocket. Otherwise SIBU to ask for so much money.

unfitmother · 25/02/2011 19:46

YABU to 'expect' her to.

ENormaSnob · 25/02/2011 19:47

What everyone else said.

hoops997 · 25/02/2011 19:59

but she offered to have him for me so I could still work, it was only today that she asked for the money!

OP posts:
hoops997 · 25/02/2011 20:00

I should have worded my OP better, no I don't expect her to have him at all, I don't expect her to want paying!

OP posts:
fivegomadindorset · 25/02/2011 20:01

In that case then no YANBU if she offered and then says she wanst paying.

ENormaSnob · 25/02/2011 20:03

So it wasn't mentioned when she offered?

she is bu then.

hoops997 · 25/02/2011 20:04

no she didn't mention that she wanted any money, I was a bit Shock when I went to pick him up, If I'd have known I would have found a temp CM

OP posts:
SarahBumBarer · 25/02/2011 20:07

Is she trying to make a point to you for some reason?

Olessaty · 25/02/2011 20:07

So she offered to look after your little one so you could work, no mention of money until after she had done the deed, then asked for £200? I'd be shocked at my mother doing something like this, if I was paying her, I'd expect to know from the outset.

Dirtbagsmummy · 25/02/2011 20:07

Christ if I put my son in nursery for the full 5 days it would only be £170!

I think its cheeky!

ENormaSnob · 25/02/2011 20:09

She's taking the piss.

GelflinGirl · 25/02/2011 20:11

In that case i would rather pay a child minder than give her the money, think shes taking the piss offering then at last min wanting money, besides hes her grandson???!!!!! I cant imagine asking to be paid to watch my grandkids when i have some.............
