I flashed my headlights at someone today and then gave them the finger

fucking witch wouldn't let me pull out from parking into a slow-moving queue at traffic lights

seriously made a point of speeding up until she was level with me

The person behind her did though

so I flashed and gave her the finger

she deserved it - it was such purposeful bad manners / etiquette whatever you call it

AIBU?

I was trying to get out of Brighton once (isnt everyone) and someone wouldnt let me out. Few cars behind her did. A few yards further down the road she had to pull in to drop someone off and traffic was moving very slowly. She really wanted me to let her out but I smiled and shook my head. She knew who I was as she it was very obvious she had moved closer to the car in front earlier to stop me. Gawd, it felt good.

LBsBongers · 24/02/2011 19:29

Can't believe I am doing this, highway code part 259 joining a motorway ; you should give priority to traffic already on motorway, check traffic flow and match speed etc etc.

Can't find the part where it says if someone doesnt let you in flick them the finger, but I may bow to you on this one to you queen of the road.

hmc · 24/02/2011 19:33

Oh heavens! - of course traffic on the motorway has the right of way, but any sensible, experienced driver who isn't a half wit will try to facilitate traffic joining from the slip road by being accommodating (since it is dangerous to have backed up traffic on the slip road which has been forced to slow down substantially and then has to attempt to merge with motorway traffic which is travelling at higher speeds)

activate · 24/02/2011 19:33

I can't believe you're doing it either Grin

whispers - common courtesy

OP posts:
activate · 24/02/2011 19:34

although hmc's answer was far superior

OP posts:
hmc · 24/02/2011 19:36

Gee thanks activate - I'll bask in that for a moment (until someone else comes along in a second to counter argue vociferously Grin)

BooyFuckingHoo · 24/02/2011 19:39

"she made me cross enough to swear at her "

HAHAHAHAHA @ ^^^^^

no you fool, you made yourself cross by allowing yourself to feel entitled to be let out. your postion in traffic is no more important than anyone else's. she had no obligation to allow you out and not doing so did not make her a cunt.

you flashing the lights and flipping the bird however...Hmm

Dylthan · 24/02/2011 19:40

I have never given anyone the finger in my life for some reason it just makes me feel wrong.

So in your situation I would of just kept on giving the car a death stare and wishing a pox upon their house Wink

IcingOnTheCakes · 24/02/2011 19:53

Ha ha yanbu. I hate drivers who do that; speed up so you can't pull out.

It's more annoying though when you waiting to turn right and the traffic light to your left are red, keeping the traffic back but to your right you have some half wit who doesn't let you out, even though the lights in front of him are red!

Motorways, yeah, you get the "I have right of way and will not pull over to let you join" idiots.

tl10 · 24/02/2011 19:55

For all you know, she could have had the morning from hell, left the gas on, not be concentrating, feel like shit and want to get home asap, or have let 10 people out already without a hands up response lol. Or she might just be rude. Either way, you'll have either made a shitty day even worse for her, or not even made an impact on her if she's been brought up with bad manners. All while winding yourself up!x

KazBarTFG · 24/02/2011 20:01

YANBU at all.

This driver put the foot down just to teach you a lesson and probably had a smile on her face whilst doing it.

So the other driver was BU.

Some people have no Common Fucking Courtesy

bupcakesandcunting · 24/02/2011 20:08

Is this still going on?

OP was within her right. Just as she is within her right to show the birdie if people:

-Are not moving along the footpath at the speed preferred by the OP.

-Are not putting their pension money away in their purse fast enough at the Post Office

-Are taking too long on the slide/swing.

BooyFuckingHoo · 24/02/2011 20:12

"This driver put the foot down just to teach you a lesson"

is this a serious post?

why the hell would teh other driver want to teach OP a lesson? what lesson? what for? for asking to get out in the traffic?

that may be how you relate to other drivers but i am pretty sure most normal people don't drive about looking for people to 'teach a lesson to' and smiling about it.

scottishmummy · 24/02/2011 20:13

did the veins on your neck bulge or just your eyes?
lol at a radge opining upon manners and etiquette.was that immediately after giving the vickies and flashing.

bupcakesandcunting · 24/02/2011 20:18

"that may be how you relate to other drivers but i am pretty sure most normal people don't drive about looking for people to 'teach a lesson to' and smiling about it."

Blush Blush Blush

BooyFuckingHoo · 24/02/2011 20:22

Grin @ bupcakes

OTheHugeManatee · 24/02/2011 20:38

I feel very frustrated that the OP won't tell us what kind of car s/he's got.

For example, if s/he was driving an Audi A5, s/he was BU. But if it was a Fiat 500, s/he was not BU.

I am, of course, being entirely reasonable. Grin

activate · 24/02/2011 20:49

Sherman Tank Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 24/02/2011 21:03

YABU then. Why didn't you just drive over her?

And then you went to all the trouble of popping out of that little hatch to make your rude gesture, when you could have put an anti-aircraft missile up her exhaust pipe?

activate · 24/02/2011 21:07

I have been told not to use the anti-aircraft gun again Sad

the police said they understood why the woman feeding her children froot shoots and sausage rolls outside greggs deserved it and let me off with a caution

OP posts:
KazBarTFG · 24/02/2011 21:09

BooyFuckingHoo...

IME I have heard many drivers say

"I put the foot down and made sure the person trying to get in the next lane wasn't given enough room, teach them a lesson to get in the correct lane in future etc etc"

I don't condone this at all, but I have heard of people doing this.

From the OP it sounds like the other driver did not let her in deliberately

OTheHugeManatee · 24/02/2011 21:11

Why didn't I buy a car with a missile launcher?

Envy
BooyFuckingHoo · 24/02/2011 21:13

yes it does sound as though teh otehr driver did it deliberately, not sure why deliberate has to mean nasty/cunt/teaching her a lesson. if i was ina rush to get home/hadn't been thanked the last 6 times i let someone out then i may deliberately fill the space so another driver couldn't get out but i wouldn't have a vendetta against the driver, for one, i wouldn't know the other person to have anything against them. my reasons for doing so would be entirely personal and nothing to do with teaching anyone a lesson or being a cunt.

BooyFuckingHoo · 24/02/2011 21:16

and who the hell boasts to you about being an arsehole on the roads and why do you know so many boastful arseholes? Confused

Leftleg · 24/02/2011 21:25

She didn't have to let you in. You were the one with bad manners/etiquette.
