I am getting increasngly perpelexed at the numbers of women, not just young gilrs, but women who walk around at 3pm in their PJ's.

I started seeing it at the school gates and assumed mum was woken late and just rushed to get child to school.
BUt then i would see the same mum collect the child in the afternoon in the same Pj's.

i am now seeing them walking around supermarkets in them.

WTF is wrong with pulling on jeans and a baggy jumper if you can't be arsed to make an effort?

it is disgusting. it can't be hygenic surely?

yanbu

i am a lazy bugger but jammies are for the house.

squeakytoy · 23/02/2011 19:50

I wouldnt say it was unhygienic, I would say it was bone idle lazy, makes you look like you dont give a toss about your personal appearance, and basically are a slob.

If you are fine with people looking at you and thinking that, go for it. Grin

If you saw people walking about in their bed clothes up to a couple of years ago, you would think they had escaped from the local mental ward.. nowadays it seems some people think it normal to walk about in your bed clothes... very weird.

How long does it take to throw on a t-shirt or jumper and some trousers...

Drizzela · 23/02/2011 19:53

YANBU - it's a sign of how things have changed and how dignity has gone out of fashion.

We get it all the time around where we live as it's heavily populated by students. Have never seen any grown women doing it though.

There is no actual reason that's it's unacceptable - it's not actually unhygenic, or obscene or effecting anyone else in any way. It's just a matter of decorum. Passing wind loudly in public, or picking your nose and eating your haul, or shouting 'Oi' at the top of your voice to get someone's attention - no reason to not do it other than it's just not cricket.

369thegoosedrankwine · 23/02/2011 19:53

YANBU. I can't imagine feeling comfortable in my PJ's anywhere but at home, in fact, it used to be my anxiety dream to wake up in a supermarket or at work etc in my Pj's.

Tis very common in my hometown (Liverpool) especially in the local Spar (ie: corner shop not Spa Grin )

Hulababy · 23/02/2011 20:02

I have never seen this round here. I shall be more observant this week and try and spot some. It is my challenge for half term now!

Can't understand going out of doors in them personally. I love my PJs. I change into them soon enough in an evening, and if ill I will change into clean ones for a day in bed or on the sofa. But I have never been out in them!

Heck, when I was really ill with pnuemonia last year and had tp see the emergency doctor at 7pm I even got changed out of PJs into proper day wear.

harpsichord carrier - the difference is that pretty much everyone you see out and about whilst wearing your PJs will think you're an utter nob jockey whereas you probably won't know that most of us are judging you - but trust me, we are.

A. I don't wear my pyjamas out; in fact I don't wear pyjamas AT ALL but that's another story
B. WHY would I CARE, why would ANYONE if other people are judging me for what I am wearing??
none of anyone else's business, surely?
utterly trivial, no?

2rebecca · 23/02/2011 20:05

It sounds as though some of you have ginormous heating bills, or maybe you just have warmer pyjamas than me and don't live in scotland.

shockers · 23/02/2011 20:05

I saw three girls wearing them (seperately) in Lancaster last week. I assumed that it was a themed party that had got split up. Is it really a fashion?

yogididabooboo · 23/02/2011 20:22

It would seem so.

Pj's tucked into fake uggs and some lairy coloured socks underneath.
Lots of make up and a starnge birds nest hair do that is accomplished by parting the hair somewhere just above left ear and swooping it across the face towards the right. then back combing like mad and pulling the rest into a pony.

2rebecca · 23/02/2011 20:35

Sounds really attractive.
Hope blokes don't copy the pj as outdoorwear trend. Can visualise lots of escaped willies from grungy looking chavs. Loverly.

needmyrootsdone · 23/02/2011 20:48

Loving that post 2rebecca!

AgentZigzag · 23/02/2011 21:22

So will pooh bear or forever friends freaky bears nighties ever become de rigueur do you think?

Perhaps with those big monster feet slippers?

FutureNannyOgg · 23/02/2011 21:28

I win. One of DH friends wore his dressing gown to our wedding reception.

He was cold and it was in his car so he threw it on over his clothes.

I didn't mind actually, I think it crossed the line enough to be hilarious, and it distracted my mother from her cats bum face over me changing out of my dress into something I could bf in.

Generally though pjs are for home. I saw a woman shopping in matalan in hers, I gave her the benefit of doubt and thought maybe she had a nighttime housefire so needed to buy clothes.

constantlywrong · 23/02/2011 21:37

I have seen grown women doing PJs in their PJs....and slippers...Hmm

schroeder · 23/02/2011 21:48

It seems to be all the go where I live I saw 3 girls in pink winceyettes this afternoon. Last weekend there seemed loads in pink primark giant babygrows, boys as well. they look like tits but it's attention they're seeking, so I try not to look.Grin

NoSuchThingAsSociety · 23/02/2011 23:00

Ugh.

COCKadoodledooo · 23/02/2011 23:21

Today I wore jamas all day. I did not leave the house though! Also have showered and put on a clean pair now.

Have once gone out of the house in them (emergency dash to shop for milk/bread, and it was first thing in the morning) but fortunately it was pissing down so I slung some waterproof trousers on over the top and no one was any the wiser Grin

GabySolis · 23/02/2011 23:44

YANBU. It's completely, totally and utterly minging and just plain scratty. People out and about in their pj's in the middle of the day obviously have no self esteem, self worth or care about life in general to do it.
How sodding hard is it to throw some clothes on? Takes all of 5 minutes.

fangbanger · 23/02/2011 23:45

But it seems some people actually choose to look like that.

That idea baffles me

fangbanger · 23/02/2011 23:45

Oh, im the OP.

monoid · 24/02/2011 00:03

On Red Nose Day, my workplace is being sponsored to wear PJs and I'm going to have to take my DD to school and pick her up while wearing them. I'm already feeling anxious about it and wondering what other people will think of me :(

no idea what a fuck rucksack is. Am i missing out on some new sexual deviency?

On red nose day it is different, people expect you to dress silly.

Tortington · 24/02/2011 00:26

i didn't get dressed today until 3pm, but i wouldn't dream of leaving the house like that.

i don't think its unhygenic so much as a lack of self respect.

one must at least get dressed and brush ones hair

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 24/02/2011 00:46

I'm still stuck on the babygrows and dummies thing. This is a fashion, not a fetish, yes?

Mind you, anyone saying "it's a sign of how things have changed and how dignity has gone out of fashion" has fallen prey to the trap of assuming that standards always drop and society is subject to entropy, rather than fashion going in cycles.

Women used to go out with curlers in their hair. "Housecoats" used to be common daywear for women, and I doubt many people would think much of popping out to the shops in them; they were basically dressing gowns. There's no inevitable decline.

The babygrows are a bit ridiculous, I give you that.
