I am getting increasngly perpelexed at the numbers of women, not just young gilrs, but women who walk around at 3pm in their PJ's.

I started seeing it at the school gates and assumed mum was woken late and just rushed to get child to school.
BUt then i would see the same mum collect the child in the afternoon in the same Pj's.

i am now seeing them walking around supermarkets in them.

WTF is wrong with pulling on jeans and a baggy jumper if you can't be arsed to make an effort?

it is disgusting. it can't be hygenic surely?

I've not seen it for myself, but I've heard of this. Personally I think it's awful too! I've been known to stay in my pj's all day at home while doing housework etc. A few times I've had to pop to the garage very late at night, in which case I put trackie bums or jeans over my pj's, I wouldn't dream of actually wearing them outside. Even then, I was worried that if I was involved in an accident or something, I had no knickers on ShockBlush

YANBU

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 23/02/2011 17:13

I feel the same about it as I do about women who apply their make up on the tube, which is that it really bothers me; but for the life of me I can't put my finger on WHY.

harpsichordcarrier · 23/02/2011 17:13

you are judgy with your cat's arse face about pyjamas.
I am judging you your 'chav' nastiness/snobbery.
It's, like, karma, innit? Grin

UrsulaBuffay · 23/02/2011 17:13

People really go out in their pj's? I adore my pj's and get changed as soon as I can when I know I'm home for the night, but I'd be ashamed to be seen in them! Have never, ever seen it irl.

oldwomaninashoe · 23/02/2011 17:20

Dickiedavis, I cannot abide that either, it makes me want to hit them very hard when the blusher and mascara come out Angry Grin

yogididabooboo · 23/02/2011 17:25

You need to come to Lewisham then Ursuala.

Dickie - i agree. Though Dh was telling me he saw a woman driving along putting her make up on a while back and she had to break suddenly and smeared eyeliner all down her cheek.

oh how i laughed

I can't get mad about this one. I've tried, because really its quite silly going out in your PJ's, but I can't help but not care.

I wish I could but I can't!

BulletWithAName · 23/02/2011 17:32

You need to come to Lewisham

Ha, Lewisham! Says it all WinkGrin

This phenomenon is also very common where I grew up. When I go back to visit my mum, there is loads of them out and about in their PJ's. In summer some of them even walk about barefoot to the shop- WTF?!

StormInaCCup · 23/02/2011 17:33

harpsichord carrier - the difference is that pretty much everyone you see out and about whilst wearing your PJs will think you're an utter nob jockey whereas you probably won't know that most of us are judging you - but trust me, we are.

StormInaCCup · 23/02/2011 17:34

I forgot to add my passive aggressive Wink bah!

bibbitybobbityhat · 23/02/2011 17:36

Yanbu, yogi, yanbu at all. Wholeheartedly agree. Although I am intrigued by there being lots of it in Lewisham. I spend a fair amount of time in Lewisham and can't say I've noticed it all that often. But not long ago saw a fully caked on made up girl in pyjamas and Uggs buying cigs from the Co-Op in poncetastic SE22 if you please Shock.

needmyrootsdone · 23/02/2011 17:38

i know a school that sent a letter home to paents telling them NOT to arrive in for drop off/pick up in PJs. Quite right too. Jesus - hardly sets a good example!!

Rabat · 23/02/2011 17:40

I do think I have ever seen anyone walk around outside in their PJs. YANBU.

SecretNutellaFix · 23/02/2011 17:40

DH and I went to the cinema on saturday and there was a group of 4 young girls, about 16 being dropped off. Every single one of them had pyjamas on, brown ugg type things and hooded sweatshirts on top , their hair looked as if they had had several large birds nesting in it, their fake tans were sublime, plus the added 2 inches thick orange foundation really set the whole look off. Oh and they carried handbags the size of an armchair each.

Their voices could have bent metal as well.

Did I judge? Of course I bloody well did! Do I care? Nope.

FabbyChic · 23/02/2011 17:41

I failed to see that it is any of your business, just because you can't get away with it.

Or are you just a stuck up snob?

needmyrootsdone · 23/02/2011 17:47

Now this thread is shocking me..just how common does thsi appear to be?? I haven't actually seen this. Name and shame the worst towns please - out of interest!!!

The school I heard of was CHESTER -LE - STREET (county durham - not where I live, but a friend told me)

BalloonSlayer · 23/02/2011 17:55

It's the 21st century version of the Hilda Ogden look, ie the curlers in all day.

I read one of those nosy social survey books of the Victorian times, I think it was "Round about a Pound a Week" which was about the families living on Lambeth Walk. The writer described the women all wearing curlers all day "to look nice for their men when they came home," and that the look became such a fashion that even women with naturally curly hair would put on a headscarf and a couple of curlers in the front, as they wanted to look like the others.

PS we don't have the PJ women where we live but we do have the ones who do the school run dressed in gym kit or the ones who do it dressed in riding clothes.

Chandon · 23/02/2011 17:56

I like it !!!

It makes me feel put together and stylish...by default!

Grin it is a good thing.

BalloonSlayer · 23/02/2011 17:58

"Or are you just a stuck up snob?"

Grin

Is there a kind of snob that isn't stuck up, Fabby?

yogididabooboo · 23/02/2011 18:00

"Or are you just a stuck up snob?"

yes, i think i probably am. Grin

Chester-le-Street?! WOW!

I have a friend who lives there - I must ask her about this! Grin

2rebecca · 23/02/2011 18:04

I hate eating in pyjamas or night attire. You should only leave the house in your nightwear if there is a fire or you are popping out to the bin or to pick something up from inside the car.
No-one does the pjs during the day thing here.

needmyrootsdone · 23/02/2011 18:05

yes, the rough end apparently (Pelton Fell) - don't flame me, I don't knowe the area!!!

needmyrootsdone · 23/02/2011 18:07

Yogi - you are NOT a snob for thinking this!! It's so easy for people to say that it annoys me. This is a debate about basic standards that a decent citizen should have imo

yogididabooboo · 23/02/2011 18:09

Well exactl needmyroots, there are just some unwritten rules in life and one of them has got to be that you get dressed before going shopping surely?
