As starkly reminded by recent threads, MN is not the sort of place that I feel very safe, with or without anonymity. I don't expect to be missed, I have often been quite and outspoken bitch on here and haven't exactly made a lot of friends. I am delighted to have met some of the feminists, and will hopefully see them again. But twice in two weeks I've had PMs reminding me of things I've posted about my husband and I'm really upset about it. For me MN has been a quick knee jerk experience, one that captures my mood at any moment. So toodle pip.....about time I did more with the dcs anyway.

I am really aware that this is an attention seeking thread, but I just wanted MN to know that I won't be the only one leaving when apparent heartbreak (not mine) is fodder for someone's 'shit stirring Sunday'.....

LeQueen - if everyone bothers to report when they get a nasty/vile PM then it will help MNHQ keep the boards free of them, they can't deal with things they don't know about. I just feel we owe it to each other.

Not posts though, I'd sooner they were left standing so everyone can see the poster for what they are!

I am astounded on the number of twats on AIBU at the moment and the troll type threads. It seems to be getting very nasty.

victoriascrumptious · 22/02/2011 19:01

Posie, If you're being threatened post their names on here.

Depends on your definition of 'threat' though tbh. I've lost count of the number of times i've been threatened (not on here). Most of it is harmless and funny

People do need to think carefully before pulling stunts online though. All someone needs is an IP address to rip into your PC It's not hard these days. If you're not confident of your security and have something to lose then you shouldn't be gobbing off

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 22/02/2011 19:02

TSC.... hmmm, can't think Wink

rotfl

Pagwatch · 22/02/2011 19:04

It is true . Twat of the week is more hotly contested than the oscars just now.

For the sake of clarity. No, not me.

Posie, think about it. If many of us don't want you to leave that should be more important than random twattage.

LoveBeingAKnockedUp · 22/02/2011 19:07

What fucking coward to pm you like that. I've never been one for a bum fight but come on let's wait for her at hometime

FluffyMuff · 22/02/2011 19:08

Wow, PP you've just registered as a name I recognise (there are only about 6/7 that I think - oh I remember them from such-and-such posts)

I like your frankness, I like that people who have conviction in their beliefs can say what they think out loud and not via PM. It's a bit cowardly isn't it.

If it were me, I'd out them. But that's because I do like a public flogging Mumsnet-style!!

Name change and come back - keep the numpties at bay.

PLEASE don't leave! You are one of the few feminist voices on here that I recognise and understand, but you explain things much better than I ever could. You wont know me because I mostly lurk. Why should you lose your voice because of a bully? And if you don't want to PM who it is, why not name them on this thread? They did it, so they shouldn't mind standing by their actions.

It feels very nice, at worst I am someone that annoys the hell out of people, at best I'm recognised and have shown empathy and understanding at times. TBH it probably is a boost I could do with right now. I don't pretend to know much, by MN standards I am pretty well illiterate, poorly travelled and careerless but I have thought none of this mattered, here. MN has had a place for all types of posters and more often than not they've been respected as stand alone posts/threads. My marriage isn't perfect but it doesn't stop me wanting others to be and hopefully advising where I can....even if I wouldn't have the courage of my own advice.

I hope you've defriended her on Twitter...shit, down to 294 friends. She'll have to drum up some more. Can't be easy (if it's who I think it is)

PP - Don't go. Namechange, report PMs, tell your nearest and dearest on here who your new name is, and carry on as before. It has all turned a bit nasty on here. If you want to get on and do stuff take a break. But don't leave.

The advent of the Twitter Meta-Mumsnet is not unlike a Moldygate II in the sense that there is now a community, formed out of Mumsnet, not on Mumsnet, discussing Mumsnet, not on Mumsnet. Not in any way a criticism of Twitter or those using it (or FB for that matter which is also a MN sub-community), it is just how it is. I saw a lot of hurt from people on the thread(s) in question who felt they'd been naive/excluded because they didn't realise all this not on MN stuff was going on and being brought back to the site.

However a big danger of extending your MN community into Twitter and FB is that, depending on the extent of info on either of your profiles on those sites, you open up more and more personal identifying information. In no way blaming you but I think it is a further reason why you (justifiably) feel so hurt and well, for want of a better word, ....stalked. This person wasn't just another MN name (love to all the just another MN names out there - we are individuals people - no disrespect) she was someone who might have known where you lived, who you knew, etc and then went to the trouble of dredging up old posts.

You have to report if there is a threat in there. You really do. LeQ has taken Chipping's point on board, and it is true, the only thing we can do is report and get people removed who are going to abuse MN in this way.

Oh, and don't leave. It's the PMer who should be leaving.

omnishambles · 22/02/2011 19:22

LeQueen - I think its the difference between disagreements on threads which have always gone on and you leave it on the thread and move on and when a poster is just mean and follows you around bitching about you and generally being really unpleasant and using sock puppets etc.

The more it happens though the more people feel they have to namechange continually and that removes even more of the community feel as none trusts and knows eachother - its a difficult one.

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 19:24

She doesn't say 'I'm going to blah blah....' she just reminds me that she knows stuff, from deleted threads, about things I've posted about and reminds me of an old name....it's just insinuation.

MogadoredMemoo · 22/02/2011 19:26

Please tell us who it is. Then we can avoid her. Why should she get away with behaving like that!?

"She doesn't say 'I'm going to blah blah....' she just reminds me that she knows stuff, from deleted threads, about things I've posted about and reminds me of an old name....it's just insinuation."

So not only an unpleasant person, but a cowardly one too. How charming.

I rarely remember much about specific posters, but I do recognise the names of a few who I feel add positively to the boards-and yours is one of them, PP. Do take a break, by all means, but if you can, namechange and come back.

Jux · 22/02/2011 19:32

I'm disgusted that people can be so petty as to behave like this. Posie, I don't actually know you from Adam (and I don't know him either) but it is dreadful that you feel that you have to leave when you don't want to, because some small-minded no-lifer can behave like this.

Whoever it is/they are should be reported and preferably banned. At the very least everyone else should be warned who they are.

I am truly sorry you have suffered this shit.

FWIW I think PMing should go. It's just asking for trouble.
