christian lady has written a book claiming jesus can cure homosexuality

I'm not getting into the debate of wether there is a God/Jesus etc. It just this has really mad me angry, how can you cure something that is NOT an illness. I find this extremely insulting and judgemental.

YANBU. Jesus was notorious in his own day for accepting people for exactly who they were.

cunexttuesonline · 22/02/2011 17:52

I work with a very religious guy, we have had the gay argument, where I said that if he believes that god created us, then why would he create gay people if it was wrong to be gay? His response to this is that people are not born gay, it's a choice and if they choose to be gay they are going against gods wishes. Meh Hmm

KittaKatta · 22/02/2011 17:55

was going to write something but think that HecateQueenOfWitches has put it prefectly. If I was god, I think I'd actually be pretty pissed off by the clear suggestion that he cocked up in the sexuality of very many people he created, and that his chosen design of the male body is faulty and that he sends babies down from heaven chock full of sin.

KnittedBreast · 22/02/2011 18:02

actually i saw something on tv not long ago about the possibility that scientists may have found a way to alter sexual orientation. if jesus was able to perform miracles he may have had the power to change anything he wanted to. whether he would have done is something else

but i am unsure of my feelings on jesus so i dont really know....

i dont think being gay is something you choose

sixkids · 22/02/2011 18:40

my son is gay,not sick, hes just a happy man and fantastic son :)

DrSeuss · 22/02/2011 18:53

May I just say that I deeply resent the description of this woman as "Christian"? God made us all, to imply that he mismanaged any of us and gave us the "wrong" sexuality is therefore offensive to me. She is not a Christian, she is a bigot using the Christian faith as a shield for her bigotry. Ask her if she eats prawns!
Or, since I firmly believe that such people are hiding something, ask her if she eats muff!

It's been done before but bears another airing so here it is

Sorry won't be reading your link either cos things like that get me pissed. Oh and did you know there is no Jesus.

NoSuchThingAsSociety · 22/02/2011 20:29

You're all doctors, I presume?

DrSeuss · 22/02/2011 20:34

Me? Nope. I don't need to be an MD to locate complete bollocks!

There is a camp to cure being gay too. I believe there are people in the US whose job it is to cure homosexuals!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/02/2011 20:42

Don't know why the relevance of our medical degrees or lack thereof? Hmm

weegiemum · 22/02/2011 20:44

My dh is a doctor and has a theology degree and doesn't think you can cure homosuxuals - cure them of what? Being themselves?

I'ma CHristian and I hate this - gives the reasonable ones of us a bad name!

NoSuchThingAsSociety · 22/02/2011 20:45

Your certainty at something not being an illness, that's all. I mean, clearly you've done some research on this...

GrimmaTheNome · 22/02/2011 20:45

Oh, she's not a Christian. Hmm

On that basis there must be quite a lot fewer Christians in the world than the official statistics indicate.

twinkytonk · 22/02/2011 20:47

Complete crap! I won't be clicking the link either.

I have a friend who is very religious and believes that it's wrong. I get into many (what could be very heated) talks with her about stuff like this and tell her it's not wrong. It drives her nuts ha ha ha ha ah. I do like to see her getting wound up though Wink

Hullygully · 22/02/2011 20:48

Yes He can.

But he doesn't always want to.

GrimmaTheNome · 22/02/2011 20:48

Of course we've not all done research ourselves Hmm. But some of us have read the results of research by proper scientists.

Tortington · 22/02/2011 20:49

i am still stunned at how backward society is - i really don't think i am enlightened or anything,

but as a catholic, i see jesus as the bloke who stood up for minority groups.

i have issues with the churches stance on contraception becuase times have moved on since the bible, and in this day and age, i have to get a job to support my family and i cannot do this if my sole function is as a baby making machine.

this leads onto sex. sex is supposed to be fun and great and good and fab - we are supposed to enjoy it no matter who it is with as long as it is consensual.

now i can't see jesus having a problem with one person loving another person. no matter what gender that person is - it really does perplex me.

it perplexes me further that people who read the bible, cannot see that it was written at a certain time in history, where the continuance of the family was very important, where women were subserviant.

this is not the case now.

i am perplexed that people can't see that there are over arching subjects in the bible - about being good and treating people kindly - Jesus was the first hippy

CrazyHorse · 22/02/2011 20:50

Some mad old bat writes a book, and publishes herself....I don't reckon sales will be that high, somehow.

WebbyFeet900 · 22/02/2011 20:51

Alarmist or what this thread should be deleted some of us are deeply religious dadnetters I'll have you know and homosexual.

GrimmaTheNome · 22/02/2011 20:51

Oh, the link is OK - it includes this:

?This kind of conversion therapy has been discredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and British and American Psychological Associations." (I imagine the latter has a few doctors in it)

CrazyHorse · 22/02/2011 20:52

And I agree wholeheartedly with Custardo!

Hullygully · 22/02/2011 20:55

I know some special Jesus doctors and they have a secret cure for the homos if anyone is interested. It is not expensive considering.

BlueCollie · 22/02/2011 21:01

A bit off on a tangent....My son has gay 'odd'parents (naming ceremony and didn't like the word mentor) they said that when my son is older they will have separate rooms as they didn't want him to be influenced into being gay. Once I had picked myself up off the floor from laughing so hard and slugged back more wine I said 'my son won't be staying if you do that, you'll stay in your own bedroom and I really don't think him seeing you share a bedroom will turn him gay' Did make me laugh Grin

BooyFuckingHoo · 22/02/2011 21:46

well I'm no doctor but i am pretty damn certain i was born straight so i see no reason why it would be any diffeernt for gay people.
