I'm not getting into the debate of wether there is a God/Jesus etc. It just this has really mad me angry, how can you cure something that is NOT an illness. I find this extremely insulting and judgemental.

I'm not homophobic...

Lovecat, as a Christian you are well aware of the word:

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders (1 Corinth 6:9).

I have NO problem with homosexuals, I have a problem with people trying to limit free speech.

Society can accept anything it wants, it doesn't mean individuals have to.

Yes, Swallowed, I'm 24, so young-ish.

Grimma- Yes I don't think women are inferior at all, it is to do with the functions within church and the authority.

An apologist- someone who defends something via an argument, yes, but mostly people who defend someone else's point of view. (for e.g. my mother calls me a Muslim apologist...)

seeker · 04/03/2011 17:23

"Why oh why are Christians constantly labelled homophobic"

They aren;t. Homophobes are labled homophobic. Their faith is immaterial.

Lovecat · 04/03/2011 17:33

I tend to disregard pretty much all of St Paul's writing as he was such a homophobic, woman-hating eejit, tbh. (Except for Corinthians 13:1 - even a homophobic mysognynist can have a good day)

I don't recall Jesus himself being quoted as coming out with any of that shite. And if he had done, I wouldn't consider myself a Christian anymore, because that sort of close-minded thinking and lack of love for one's fellow man is fundamentally against everything I believe in.

GrimmaTheNome · 04/03/2011 17:33

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders (1 Corinth 6:9).

I have NO problem with homosexuals

Following from that quote, it appears you've got a touch of cognitive dissonance going on here.

LadyOfTheManor · 04/03/2011 17:38

I don't have a problem with homosexuals, they can be as gay as the day is long. Their decision does not infringe my faith. However, it's a lifestyle choice I don't approve of-and I don't believe God does either.

Love- So you disregard ALL of Paul's teachings? Interesting. Which bits of the Bible do you embrace?

Tizwoz · 04/03/2011 17:40

Wait, are you telling me Jesus CAN'T cure homosexuality?

Someone should tell the Pope.

Lovecat · 04/03/2011 17:49

LotM, my faith is just that. Mine. Private. Between me and God, y'know?

I'm not going to waste time arguing biblical interpretation with you on an AIBU thread just so that you can feel somehow justified in holding and spouting such outdated and nasty views. The bible's a big book. Says lots of things. Are you wearing mixed fibres at the moment? Eating prawns? Hellfire for you, dear!

I do get annoyed when small-minded people declare their predjudices through the prism of faith and then wail anti-Christian discrimination, or that their free speech is being curtailed because others take exception to their bigotry....

Please don't think all Christians are like LotM, everybody else!

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 04/03/2011 17:49

But "there is nothing wrong with Homosexuality" is MY point of view.

LadyOfTheManor · 04/03/2011 19:15

Lovecat...I didn't ask you to declare your faith, I asked which parts of the Bible you do accept and some you clearly don't.

PLease tell me what I have said that's bigoted?

Rhian82 · 04/03/2011 19:42

Calling homosexuality a 'lifestyle choice' for one. It's not. Any more than my being a woman, or white, is a lifestyle choice.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 04/03/2011 20:43

"A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices"

I'm afraid that is most faith positions.

carminaburana · 04/03/2011 21:29

religious people are not 'intolerant' - you really don't know what you're talking about TCNY

chipmonkey · 04/03/2011 21:36

Some religious people are intolerant.

carminaburana · 04/03/2011 21:38

So are some homosexuals

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 04/03/2011 21:45

Carminaburana - I didn't say they were. I said that faith positions are bigoted. This is more due to the obstinacy. LotM is not going to change het position no matter what anyone says, no matter what arguments they give and no matter what evidence is given. That is a definition of a faith position and a bigoted one.

There is no point arguing with someone coming from that standpoint.

carminaburana · 04/03/2011 21:58

But Lotm is not hurting anyone is she?

She doesn't have to 'accept' homosexuality no more than you have to 'accept' Christianity, Islam or Judaism.

And you can have bigoted, intolerant homosexuals you know - they are Human after all - just like Christians.

Oooh, goody! I have never done a GCSE in my life!Grin

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 04/03/2011 22:09

I didn't say she was - but "Homosexuality is wrong and I'm not going to change my position no matter what" is a bigoted position. And she asked what she said that was bigoted.

carminaburana · 04/03/2011 22:57

Well from what I've seen she's more than capable of sticking up for herself - I'm off to make my cocoa.

G'night.

carminaburana · 04/03/2011 23:00

a C - is that all? - huh

MillyR · 04/03/2011 23:00

This has been a very depressing thread. I am going to have marshmallows with my cocoa as I will be able to toast the marshmallows in the flames of hell come judgement day.
