Tar for the cat

Sorry for another cat thread but I found this highly amusing and see it as justice done.

I returned from holiday on Sunday and was accosted by my neighbour who complained that her cats had walked roof bitchumen (tar like stuff) from the roof of my extension (we had it done just before going away) all around her house and had marked carpets and bed linen.

she said I should have informed her the roof had been done. As I have asked her on several occasions to keep her cats off my property I dont see she has a leg to stand on.

Our homes both have extensions and she leaves her rear upper window open for the cats to come and go.

the thing is newwave, even if nobody owned the cats they would still exist and they would still crap in your garden. you would still have to shell out to stop them getting into it and you still wouldn't be allowed to throw bricks at 'em.

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 15/02/2011 01:07

Jareth - there are a lot of laws that are crap and tbh, as much as it's annoying to have cat poo where you don't want it, it's not the first law I'll be changing when I'm in charge. I'm going to start with some that involve 'throwing away the keys'!! Grin

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 15/02/2011 01:09

Newwave what 'damage' are you banging on about? They're cats not elephants.

newwave · 15/02/2011 01:10

"we live in a country where cats are allowed to roam free"

I suspect this isnt true or at least if I could prove who owned a cat that had caused damage I would have a good claim for damages in a small claims court.

I miss my old dog. He used to sit about half way up the stairs, looking out for cats on the back wall. It didn't happen very often, and there was never cat shit at my parents house

We'd send him out, barking like a hell beast. No a moggy for miles :)

Shame we don't have room for a dog really :)

JarethTheGoblinKing · 15/02/2011 01:11

newwave - there is no ownership rule over cats like there is for dogs. They're essentially tamed wild creatures, whereas dogs are domestic animals.

OhForBoonessSake · 15/02/2011 01:13

actually i dont think you would be able to claim damages a cat caused from it's 'owner' cats are not property like dogs, this is why when one runs infront of your car, you have no obligation to stop. with a dog you do.

newwave · 15/02/2011 01:13

Chipping, how about the new plants which get dug up (i thought it was squirrels at first until I see a cat doing it) hardly cheap to buy.

Why do they dig up plants anyway ?

OP posts:
newwave · 15/02/2011 01:15

So if cats are not owned then then I can drive one a few miles away and let it out and no one can legally complain, yes.

And no I dont intend to do so.

OP posts:
OldLadyKnowsNothing · 15/02/2011 01:16

They don't dig up plants per se, they dig to bury their shit and the plants are collateral damage. :(

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 15/02/2011 01:17

newwave feel free to go and check out the law, but you wont like it.

i dont think a few miles would be far enough to stop it coming back TBH. they are great at getting home when they are lost. however if by taking the cat away you would be harming it, causing it to starve then i think you could be on dodgy ground WRT cruelty.

newwave · 15/02/2011 01:18

OLKN

Why do they always seem to head for the new plants then ?.

Aw, I miss my old ginger crazy cat deterrant. He was extremely effective :)

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 15/02/2011 01:19

newwave wrong again.

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 15/02/2011 01:21

newwave becasue the soil is loose adn easy to use to cover up their mess.

newwave · 15/02/2011 01:21

I have thought of putting up electrified chicken wire around the new plants :o 110 volt only non lethal to Humans not sure about cats, that would make the buggers sqeal.

Chippiong wrong again, about what ?

OP posts:
ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 15/02/2011 01:24

You would be able to be prosecuted if you took a cat for a drive and dumped it.

newwave · 15/02/2011 01:28

Proving it would be the thing though, many cats go missing and are never seen again.

As cats dont have owners who makes decisions about the cat for example can I take any cat I want to the vet to be put to sleep.

No I dont intend to do it.

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 15/02/2011 01:29

newwave. Put Down The Wine.

OhForBoonessSake · 15/02/2011 01:31

why would a vet put a healthy cat to sleep?

OhForBoonessSake · 15/02/2011 01:31

and where is val?

newwave · 15/02/2011 01:32
