to think that eggs are a normal staple food to buy?

Random little question that keeps poping up: Is it normal to buy eggs in your normal shopping? I always have done but a number of my friends don't bother.

Eggs are healthy and often make a quick lunch for DS....scrambled, boiled, omelet and then they are all the things like cooking cakes etc.
Is it odd to normally buy eggs?

Not odd at all. We always have eggs in for cakes healthy quick meals.

Sarsaparilllla · 14/02/2011 13:48

I always have eggs in, loads of variety of things you can do with them, I like to have some in.

kellykateneedsaholiday · 14/02/2011 13:48

not odd, I always buy eggs too.

starshaker · 14/02/2011 13:48

I get eggs delivered on a monday and a friday. Would feel lost if i didnt have any eggs in the house

TheVisitor · 14/02/2011 13:48

Er, no! That is quite random. I buy eggs all the time.

jaffacake79 · 14/02/2011 13:49

I always have a dozen eggs or so in. For the exact same reasons as Gwendoline Grin

Gabyrale · 14/02/2011 13:49

always, if you've got eggs, you've got a meal! Wink

verytellytubby · 14/02/2011 13:50

Always got eggs.

xstitch · 14/02/2011 13:50

If its odd to buy eggs I am odd too. They are very versitile :)

thisisyesterday · 14/02/2011 13:50

i've never considered them a staple no... we've never really eaten many eggs (except in cake)

but i wouldn't think it odd that other people do

TrillianAstra · 14/02/2011 13:50

Plese tell us more about your friends. In what way are eggs unusual?

Then again if I lived alone I would rarely buy bread, I have friends who rarely have milk, and these are standard (even cliched) 'staples'.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/02/2011 13:50

:o

Unfortunately, DH does insist on using eggs to actually eat Hmm so I am all too familiar with the sinking feeling of opening the empty egg box and realising that it'll have to be flapjacks again...

tomhardyismydh · 14/02/2011 13:51

always have eggs in my house, and relace as they run out, a bit like other essentials. i dont always have bread however.

NormanTheForeman · 14/02/2011 13:51

I usually have eggs in, and do use them in cakes etc, but don't often have them for a meal/snack as ds isn't very keen on them.

PaisleyLeaf · 14/02/2011 13:52

I've usually got eggs in as I do like baking.
But I can see why people don't. They're quite expensive now. I know most of us are aware about battery farming etc and will perhaps be put off buying the cheap eggs, the free range or organic eggs are quite pricey.

OhForBoonessSake · 14/02/2011 13:52

i dont eggs and never have but i buy them every week for the dcs.

french toast, omelette, scrambled, boiled, poached, fried, baking, the list goes on.

starshaker · 14/02/2011 13:52

actually last night i fancied something really quick so made linguine and the most amazing sauce for it. 1 egg yolk bit of cream some lemon juice and cheese and just pored it over my pasta. Was amazing and so quick cos you dont cook the sauce (nigella recipe)

OhForBoonessSake · 14/02/2011 13:52

i dont eat eggs!

SummerRain · 14/02/2011 13:53

I get twitchy if I have no eggs in the house.

I was brought up in a house where there were always eggs in if anyone fancied some (or felt a sudden urge to bake) so i just automatically do it now I have a house of my own.

JaxTellersOldLady · 14/02/2011 13:53

I eat a lot of eggsnow that I am on IPD (Idiot Proof Diet) but I always had some anyway, either from friends with hens/ducks or picked them up in local shop.

My DD and I love eggs and I bake too.

Now, I dont eat Cereal very often so I have to rely on the children to tell me when that is running low finished

Vallhala · 14/02/2011 13:53

I don't touch them as I can't condone the killing of day old chicks or the treatment of hens in the egg industry.

My children are lifelong lacto/ovo vegetarians but I no longer buy eggs for them either.

MorticiaAddams · 14/02/2011 13:53

YANBU. I had an egg and bacon sandwich for lunch. T'was lovely.

Debs75 · 14/02/2011 13:54

We always have eggs in. I love them done anyway and DD2 is starting to like them more. They are so versatile as well.

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 14/02/2011 13:56

DH and I don't like eggs so never buy them unless I feel like making a cake.

Have about 187 million in the fridge at the moment though because MIL ended up with loads for some reason. Have tried scrambled eggs with ds but he hated it. Will see if he will eat boiled eggs later on today.

TragicallyHip · 14/02/2011 13:58

I would never not have eggs, milk and bread in the house, I wouldn't wait till they run out to top up either. Just isn't right!
