DP has got it on - every so often I look up at Mel Gibson's vile face and blowdry and hurl insults at the screen.

Me: it's SHITE. I bet all the Scots in the world think it's SHITE as well

"I love a good disaster movie but unfortunately 2012 was not one!"

Grin

Agree with expat that Braveheart as a pile of wank goes, is far less wankingly awful than Love Actually.

So what do we think of "Gladiator"?

susiedaisy · 12/02/2011 21:03

i like Gladiator! there i've said it!

expatinscotland · 12/02/2011 21:05

I like Gladiator, too.

MammothNobdie3 · 12/02/2011 21:08

CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVEMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AN!

Mists · 12/02/2011 21:09

Oh good. I didn't think it was bad at all comparatively. Sort of in the tradition of the great Hollywood Biblical epics.

Mists · 12/02/2011 21:10

Well obviously in that tradition but you know what I mean.

Dunoon · 12/02/2011 21:13

Aw I cried like a baby watching Braveheart whilst pregnant.
So, hormonal then.
However I do have a soft spot for mildly entertaing hokum at any time.

Asteria · 12/02/2011 21:17

Braveheart is is a pile of soggy wank socks - as is Robin Hood Prince of Theives and Titanic - blooming Hollywood and their spangly bastardisations of brilliant stories

Last of The Mohicans however is bluddy brilliant. In our family we measure our love for a person by how willing we would be to hurl ourselves off a cliff after them...

beautyspot · 12/02/2011 21:22

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOM

beautyspot · 12/02/2011 21:25

To Maud 2011 - William Wallace Welsh ....aaahhh ha ha ha ha (go back to school Maud)

BootyMum · 12/02/2011 21:27

Gladiator good.

Love Actually is the biggest pile of steaming crap EVER

Mists · 12/02/2011 21:29

beautyspot Maud was hilarious on this thread, that comment wasn't called for really.

shimmerysilverglitter · 12/02/2011 21:32

Last of the Mohicans is one of the best films ever, I blub each and every time Alice steps of the cliff. .

Braveheart is arse. I never liked MG always suspected there was something not quite right with him

BootyMum · 12/02/2011 21:32

Asteria Oh God how I love Last of the Mohicans. I begin crying at the point when the Major is being burnt by the Huron until the very end when I am a sobbing mess every time I watch this [only about 100 times...] Love, love, love this movie. So romantic, sigh...

BootyMum · 12/02/2011 21:34

And traumatic, obviously - the romance is not in the characters dying Grin

Asteria · 12/02/2011 21:41

Mel Gibson was only ever any good in the Mad Max films - it was downhill from then on - and don't even get me started on wor Kev... WTF was Waterworld all about?! Freaky flippered folk - I mean really Hmm

shimmerysilverglitter · 12/02/2011 21:44

Both a pair of smarmy fckers. What is it about the early nineties and many of the A Listers of the time being smarmy fckers? Now Liam Neeson in Rob Roy, was a proper hero!

Saltire · 12/02/2011 21:45

Now you can't all have forgotten about the wonderful film[hmm where the Americans savedthe world from teh Nazi's (again) - U517 bigest load of pish I've seen.
Oh and Braveheart is pish to, but better than some films I ahve spent 2 hours watching

Saltire · 12/02/2011 21:47

Gladiator was pish too, apart from Joaquin "I'm terrbily vexed" Phoenix, I love him

justonemorethen · 12/02/2011 22:00

Can't watch Braveheart as his wife Catherine McCormack was at 6th form college with me.
We were all doing teacher training or making coffee in "cool" London offices and she swans on the screen kissing Mel Gibson in a blockbuster Holloywood film Envy.
Glad you all think it's a pile of toss although she still has done well for herself.Envy Envy

Psammead · 12/02/2011 22:09

Oh God.

YANBU.

Oh God.

begonyabampot · 12/02/2011 22:57

Pearl Harbour has to be the worst listed here - cringey mccringry - I would have hid behind the sofa with my fingers in my ears shouting 'la,la,la,la' if I jhadn't been sitting in the cinema - Josh Hatrnett looked nice though.

Loved early Mel - Mad Max, Gallipoli, Year Of Living Dangerously. Then he went all saviour like with Braveheart (Rob Roy out in the same year was oh so much better)and The Patriot, should have noted what happened to Costner when he went down that route with the awful Waterworld and The Postman.

Do love Independence Day and Armageddon - big all action, tongue in cheek cheesefests.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/02/2011 23:06

I really liked Rob Roy - Jessica Lange and Tim Roth were brilliant in it.

The only film I have seen with Kevin Costner in that I like is the Untouchables.

Love Actually is absolute crud, I loathe all of those fucking stupid middle class English films made by that bloke who is married to thingy Freud (what is his name). Notting Hill is truly awful. HOW can a film be so cringingly awful.
