I'm not veggie (luckily!) but just noticed this on the carton. Do all infant formulas contain fish oil? Bizarre

oops. MNing on phone, not the easiest...

Millie1206 · 11/02/2011 23:10

Altinkum - I'm not scaremongering, just asking honestly as a consumer, would aptamil or any other formula be happy advertising the fact that they use fish as an ingredient? I think not.
Understand why they do and the health benefits etc. - after all they are trying to match bm - I just feel I represent a majority of mums who 'trusted' the product, ok we could have checked labels and found out but we trusted/ assumed this product was milk, modified I grant you, but modified with fish?! I don't think your average Mum would expect that. Now whether they have a problem with it or not is a different matter.

For Millie, an explanation why there's as much cruelty in a pint of milk as there is in a pound of beef

WRT the OP, YANBU. I'm very glad that this wasn't the case when my children were babes or like one of the other posters here I would have been sourcing Kosher milk from Israel.

Did you know that one third of the fish caught in the world is used for animal feed?
Bonkers.

From that ecological viewpoint that makes sense, wanting an organically produced dairy based formula that didn't include oils from a threatened animal, I would want that if I needed formula.

Better if we could get wet nurses though.

Coca · 11/02/2011 23:15

Millie they don't advertise it because the average mum just want's "what's best" without actually knowing what they are talking about.

TimeWasting · 11/02/2011 23:16

Plenty of Mums are surprised to find out it's made from cow milk.

Lainey1981 · 11/02/2011 23:16
Biscuit wet nurses?
Coca · 11/02/2011 23:16

That came out wrong sorry

TheButterflyCollector · 11/02/2011 23:16

Completely irrelevent, but I discovered recently that Guinness has fish in it too! Shock

TimeWasting · 11/02/2011 23:17

Lainey, yes, or donated milk.

Bloody hell butterfly collector, I'm tempted tobecome vegan after reading that, or at least veggie. Will certainly never eat veal (not that I ever have before but definitely wouldn't now)

Soya milk is there because some children need it, as is regular formula. Not all children are able to skip through life happily breastfed. Fed happy babies are what matters

TimeWasting · 11/02/2011 23:21

I know there aren't enough milk banks, that's what I'm saying!

Coca · 11/02/2011 23:22

Ok that last post feels a little netmums...

TimeWasting · 11/02/2011 23:22

Yes Millie, much better the baby cow be shot at birth.

TheButterflyCollector · 11/02/2011 23:23

"People coming on and saying, well your child is doomed to have hormone problems, big tits... "

I only drink soya milk - I don't touch any meat or dairy produce at all.

Still waiting for the big tits though... :o

Besides, and more seriously, as someone who suffered hormone-fuelled breast cancer to the extent that I had surgery to reduce the oestrogen in my body, I have been encouraged to eat soya products as in the opinion of my consultant these phyto-oestrogens are good for me.

Sorry, I pressed send too quickly. I meant to add that there is more than one school of thought on the pros and cons of a soya rich diet.

TimeWasting · 11/02/2011 23:25

Altinkum, I said it would be better is we could get wet nurses, or donated milk obviously.

Millie1206 · 11/02/2011 23:25

Sorry altinkum didn't mean to start a big soya debate! Just fancied a bit of milupa bashing but it's got a bit out of hand!

NorthernComfort · 11/02/2011 23:26

timewasting- I was starting to think we had no common ground but I actually agreed with your last post. Grin

Coca · 11/02/2011 23:26

Why Milupa bashing?
