to ask how you have your steak?

I went out for supper with friends, and the Mrs friend ordered her steak "super well done, without an inch of blood or redness", Mr Friend ordered it "blue, just a flash in the pan". I ordered it "medium rare".

How do you eat your steak? I can't understand why you would order it well done...?

I like all the food on your list Mardy, expect whiskey and blossom hill.

That just makes me a greedy pig who can fir in on netmums and mumsnet.

LadyOfTheManor · 11/02/2011 00:05

Really? The quavers and skips put me off. THey just dissolve into nothing.

Hate Blossom Hill and pretend cheese.

"Well well, how stereotypical."

Yes, sorry. But I do know that I definitely warm to someone who likes a decent rare steak. I'll forgive the whisky GetOrf as that is a bit more of an acquired taste.

When I think about people who like well-done steak, I think of one of my SILs, who is a dull DM reader who enjoys a good Berni.

What the fuck is "blue" steak?

GotArt · 11/02/2011 00:57

Hmm.. rare at home, DH being a Chef, I trust his choice of meat, but at a restaurant that wasn't a friend's place, I'd order a burger.

I had a laugh a few times while living in London at how many people drink Blossom Hill and Julio & Gallo wine; its really considered the wino's wine here in BC. We wouldn't even cook with it. I loved how cheap cheese and how good it is in England though.

GotArt · 11/02/2011 00:57

Blue steak means its just seared.

FellatioNelson · 11/02/2011 18:10

It depends where I am. The cheaper and more crap the establishment the rarer it needs to be! They don't really understand the concept of medium-rare and you get lumbered with a lump of well-done. I usually order medium rare, but sometime in France I order medium, because their medium-rare is my rare, and their rare is my raw!

FellatioNelson · 11/02/2011 18:11

I eally don't understand 'well-done' steak people at all. I don;t understand why they bother ordering steak at all.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/02/2011 18:16

I certainly don't understand why (if you like it well done) you would spend £20 on a fillet rather than ordering a rump and paying a tenner, or whatever. I can't imagine well done fillet tastes much different from a well done cheaper cut.

It is so so much cheaper to eat steak at home rather than a restaurant, and it is probably the quickest and easiest thing to cook. I hardly ever eat steak when we go out as even if you ask for blue it comes out rare.

MentalFloss · 11/02/2011 18:19

If I have steak I have it well done Blush and if there is any sign of blood/pinkness I send it back...

But I rarely have steak because the thought of blood coming out makes me feel very very vommy

This thread has just reminded me of the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, where the cow came to the table and invited the diners to select their favourite cut...Let's meet the meat... Grin.

piprabbit · 11/02/2011 20:31

I'll just nip off and shoot myself.

Panzee · 11/02/2011 20:39

I hope you'll be very humane Wink

As a result of this thread (which I posted on last night) I have just eaten a fabulous piece of rib eye (rare). The pan was smokin' so all the fat melted and it was freakin' delicious! I fantasised about it ALL day!

Had it with a jacket spud, wilted spinach with a bit of truffle oil and made a red wine and balsamic vinegar sauce.

All accompanied with a big fat bottle glass of red.

Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nommmy Nom!
Grin

Argentinian - served rare

ivykaty44 · 11/02/2011 21:28

blue is suggesting the steak saw the pan and then pop the meat on a plate Smile
