to ask how you have your steak?

I went out for supper with friends, and the Mrs friend ordered her steak "super well done, without an inch of blood or redness", Mr Friend ordered it "blue, just a flash in the pan". I ordered it "medium rare".

How do you eat your steak? I can't understand why you would order it well done...?

Medium rare-medium. I can eat it almost any way though I haven't tried a blue steak yet.

Hamburgers have to be cooked all the way through though. I can't bear the texture of minced, half cooked, meat.

LetThereBeRock · 10/02/2011 21:56

Medium rare to Medium sorry.

PatriciaHolm · 10/02/2011 21:59

Medium well, if I have to have steak, but I don't really like it at all! DH has his medium rare.

StarlightPrincess · 10/02/2011 22:00

Well done, so it's slightly blackened. I fucking hate rare/medium rare steak, when you cut into it and blood seeps out. Just vile!

muggglewump · 10/02/2011 22:00

Badly cooked meat is just bad.

Good meat cooked well can be fine even if it's well done.

I have never found anywhere that cooks steak well, other than me and my kitchen without paying more than I have!

CrystalStair · 10/02/2011 22:01

mooving

mayorofwhoville · 10/02/2011 22:04

M&S have ribeye as part of the Valentine's dinner offer.

Looks lovely and will be cooked rare!

LetThereBeRock · 10/02/2011 22:05

As for sides, fried or roasted onions, mushrooms,a green vegetable, preferably asparagus,a baked potato, and occasionally a soft fried egg.

LetThereBeRock · 10/02/2011 22:06

And pepper sauce,or steak au poivre.

PDR · 10/02/2011 22:09

DH would have his "super well done" - in his country this is how everyone eats their steak/any kind of red meat. I'm not sure if it's possibly because poor levels of refridgeration mean that it's advisable to cook the meat through to kill of any bacteria though? Perhaps just habit though as this is what he was brought up on.
Most people I know have theirs "medium".

BringOnTheGoat · 10/02/2011 22:09

Fillet - rare
Ribeye - med/well
Other cuts - med/rare

I like the fat when it's well done - yummy!

PDR · 10/02/2011 22:10

sorry kill off not of Blush

LadyOfTheManor · 10/02/2011 22:11

I love baked potato with steak and soured cream.

But an egg? Urgh.

Steak, chips, fried mushrooms and battered onion rings, with lots of full fat mayonnaise...mmmm!

Trinaluce · 10/02/2011 22:14

Rare as it comes. Curse you no-rare-steak-in-pregnancy-rules!

LetThereBeRock · 10/02/2011 22:14

It's incredible with an egg.I love to dip it in the yolk...drools. This is only at home, though steak and eggs is a common restaurant breakfast item in the States.

LetThereBeRock · 10/02/2011 22:14

Or you can break the egg over the asparagus spears.

StarlightPrincess · 10/02/2011 22:15

I just threw up in my mouth a bit. I hate egg yolk with a passion!

LadyOfTheManor · 10/02/2011 22:15

I've actually just been a little bit sick in my mouth.

You ruin a good steak!

LetThereBeRock · 10/02/2011 22:17

There's a Mumsnetter who loves raw egg yolk on toast. I wish I could remember who it is.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2011 22:17

Raw egg with tartare is lovely.

But fried egg or whatever with cooked steak - urgh.

I just have chips and bearnaise with a green salad.
