to ask how you have your steak?

I went out for supper with friends, and the Mrs friend ordered her steak "super well done, without an inch of blood or redness", Mr Friend ordered it "blue, just a flash in the pan". I ordered it "medium rare".

How do you eat your steak? I can't understand why you would order it well done...?

Dh has it rare.

I have Medium rare.

Thingumy · 10/02/2011 20:36

One of the best bits to a rare steak is the chips soaking up the bloody juices.

Bubblerapped · 10/02/2011 20:40

Has to be fillet, and has to be rare... hot but still practically raw...

SquigglePigs · 10/02/2011 20:43

Definitely medium rare. It's taken me 5 years to talk dp from well done down to medium rare, but he finally admits it tastes better that way! (and the texture is better too!)

Rare/medium rare depending on the cut and restaurant etc. DP likes his well done though when I am cooking he gets it medium as I refuse to do well done :)
While growing up my father was disgusted that anyone would want a steak anyway other than blue and lectured us everytime we asked for rare :)

SeeBoobies · 10/02/2011 20:52

My first ever post!!! Have gone for a nice safe topic to ease in gently. In a posh restaurant - medium rare. In cheap and cheerful pub etc where the chef might not be as skilled I find that their medium rare is too well done, so I ask for rare.

Kingsroadie · 10/02/2011 20:52

Blue. I don't eat steak when pregnant as eating it more cooked than that doesn't seem worth it as I just don't really enjoy it...

Blue, blue, blue! I have managed to get DH down from well done to rare and he finally admits that I am right! Grin

catinboots · 10/02/2011 20:55

chargrilled like a burger - yes I am a total peasant. I never order steak in front of people I don't really know well for this very reason

SeeBoobies · 10/02/2011 20:57

Oh dear. So excited I managed to post message twice. It wasn't that interesting the first time, never mind the second.

Remove horns, wipe arse and walk past a hot grill.

Eurgh don't get me started on my dh, he eats it very very very well done.

If I cook it medium at home, he eats the outside and leaves the middle Hmm he'll learn.

ednurse · 10/02/2011 21:02

medium rare for me

muggglewump · 10/02/2011 21:04

It depends on the cut.

Generally, I have it rare, but have fillet blue.

Well done is at least 3 minutes past ruined.

I'd never date anyone again who ate well done meat.

dexifehatz · 10/02/2011 21:05

the same as Gleekfreak, not too done but not too rare.

winnybella · 10/02/2011 21:08

Rare.
Also love steak tartare. And I live in France where they do it very well, indeed.

Oh God, I'm hungry now.

muggglewump · 10/02/2011 21:09

Actually, I rarely eat out and if I do, I can't afford a steak restaurant.
Restaurants that serve steak are not good enough.

I far prefer to buy my own poncey good steak and cook it myself so it's done just to my liking.
I favour ribeye, at least 28 days hung and with home made pepper sauce and a green salad.
Sauté potatoes in goose fat.

Before I am called a ponce, I love takeaway crap and have cheesestrings spaghetti in the fridgeGrin

HecateQueenOfWitches · 10/02/2011 21:39

I like it so that a good vet could get it back on its feet.

My husband likes it cremated Hmm

I look at his and think that it doesn't even look like meat any more. And one day I'm sure he'll break a tooth.

oldraver · 10/02/2011 21:44

Oversalted and overcooked at the moment as B/F insists that he has to cook steak. I like it still red

So I'm going to wrestle back the steak cooking mantle and it will be done for a few minutes and rested for a few minutes. Not put in the oven for half an hour Grin

cyb · 10/02/2011 21:46

I like mine crispy on the outside and moist inside but NO BLOOD

and sliced thinly

and served with mash green beans and red wine gravy

LadyOfTheManor · 10/02/2011 21:46

I hate over-salted steak too.

I find the blood/juice provides enough natural salty goodness.
