to ask how you have your steak?

I went out for supper with friends, and the Mrs friend ordered her steak "super well done, without an inch of blood or redness", Mr Friend ordered it "blue, just a flash in the pan". I ordered it "medium rare".

How do you eat your steak? I can't understand why you would order it well done...?

If you leave it to rest properly you shouldn't have blood pouring out. Some restaurants probably don't do this.

Possibly why people have a problem with it!

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2011 20:21

What a waste of fillet steak to have it super well done.

You may as well just give 'em a slice of spam.

Dillie · 10/02/2011 20:21

I made my friends giggle a couple of months ago.

I asked for my steak to be well and truely dead! Grin

To be fair to the chefs, is was done perfectly ... Not quiet cremated, but definatly dead!! Tasted lovely too!

TragicallyHip · 10/02/2011 20:22

You are meant to have well done meat when pregnant, which is a shame!

ifancyashandy · 10/02/2011 20:22

I had Chateaubriand the other week. I asked for it to be shown the pan and then served.

Oh God, I could eat it now (and I've just had my dinner!).

It was like cutting butter.

Nom Nom bloody Nom!

LadyOfTheManor · 10/02/2011 20:22

The blood/juice bit is really tasty though!

Just walk it through a warm room.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2011 20:23

Yes - the blood + chips + bearnaise combo is almost the best things about steaks.

midori1999 · 10/02/2011 20:23

I usually eat it rare or medium rare and DH has his blue.

Now I am pregnant I have been avoiding steak as I don't like it too cooked, but did have a medium-well done the other day which was still quite tender and quite nice, just not as nice as rare.

My DC eat theirs rare/medium rare too.

LadyOfTheManor · 10/02/2011 20:23

Chateaubriand- delicious.

I quite fancy that after my supper of snack-a-jacks pasta.

I didn't touch steak when I was pregnant because I couldn't have it pink in the middle. I didn't see the point.

TragicallyHip · 10/02/2011 20:24

God I am still hungry after eating a small portion of pasta. Could murder a steak with peppercorn sauce Grin

catsmother · 10/02/2011 20:24

Rare, or tartare. Also like carpaccio :)

KittaKatta · 10/02/2011 20:25

Never got the big deal about steak; Ma bless her always baked steak. Moved over here started dating ex-bf went to dinner to his fav steak house and i ordered chicken Smile. He made me taste his very rare steak, and suddenly I got it.

OH likes shoe leather, I resent buying good steak for this!

ifancyashandy · 10/02/2011 20:25

Oooh carpaccio.............

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2011 20:26

oooh carpaccio

TheChewyToffeeMum · 10/02/2011 20:26

Blue if it's fillet. Rare for any other cut.

Well-done fillet steak looks really dry and chewy - yuck.

Mmmmm steak....

coldtits · 10/02/2011 20:27

Rare/blue.

Basically, I like it to be hot all the way through.

LadyOfTheManor · 10/02/2011 20:28

Carpaccio...

A little bit of spit just fell out of my mouth.

Mine is medium/well done, only recently changed from very very well done, DP likes his rare.

Maud2011 · 10/02/2011 20:32

Medium rare - but I always have a long discussion with whoever's cooking/waiting because people have very different ideas of what "medium rare" means... can vary from practically uncooked, blood running out all over the place to grey all the way through!

pointythings · 10/02/2011 20:33

I'm one of those people who won't serve lovely fillet steak more cooked than medium. And I do medium with tears in my eyes. DH agrees, so do the DDs.

snugglejunkie · 10/02/2011 20:33

A good vet could get a pulse back.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2011 20:34

DD has her steak blue as well - started by having little bits of my steak when she was a toddler, now she wouldn't have it any other way.

DP is a medium rare.

cocoachannel · 10/02/2011 20:35

Blue normally. Am pregnant at the moment. I have had one steak and ordered in medium. It was horrible, so I've not bothered since!
