YABU.

flowery · 04/02/2011 19:49

YANBU, it's dire.

I vote for Land of Hope and Glory

JemimaMop · 04/02/2011 19:49

I am not embarrassed by mine. It is fab.

emmie31 · 04/02/2011 19:50

I agree with flowery

controlpantsandgladrags · 04/02/2011 19:50

When you say "our" national anthem I assume you mean the English one? If so, I agree with you. The Welsh one is much better Grin

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 04/02/2011 19:51

Gwwwwwwlllllllllaaaaaaaaaadd, Gwwwwwlllllaaaaaad!

Always brings a tear to my eye!

yama · 04/02/2011 19:51

Whose National Anthem?

BringOnTheGoat · 04/02/2011 19:51

yabu and unpatriotic - although land of hope and glory'd be fab

MrsSippy · 04/02/2011 19:52

YANBU

Other countries have uplifting patriotic songs about how great their country and the people are, we get this dirge about looking after the Queen.

AND - why do Wales and Scotland get their own songs but England doesn't?

Itsthawooluff · 04/02/2011 19:52

Another anti - I loathe it - but my vote is for Jerusalem (at least it mentions England).

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 04/02/2011 19:53

I dont think I'm being unpatriotic at all
I think I'm just wishing we had an uplifting anthem instead of a sad depressing one

YANBU
it's fucking ridiculous and it's awful that the British National anthem is also classed as the English one. It means nothing to me.

AtYourCervix · 04/02/2011 19:54

you mean your national anthem don't you? and yes. it's shite.

CatHerder · 04/02/2011 19:55

But the bit about frustrating their knavish tricks is rather good.

flowery · 04/02/2011 19:56

Not unpatriotic, no. Objectively it's clearly a dirge, no doubt about it.

unfitmother · 04/02/2011 19:56

And crushing the 'rebellious Scots' Hmm

stoppinchingthedummy · 04/02/2011 19:56

"When you say "our" national anthem I assume you mean the English one? If so, I agree with you. The Welsh one is much better"

It's the British National Anthem, and covers all parts of the United Kingdom.

There is no English anthem.

jamfran · 04/02/2011 20:01

The Welsh national anthem, although lovely, just reminds me of John Redwood.

Idlewild · 04/02/2011 20:07

I am not English but reckon you def should have your own anthem. You've got so many great ones to choose from. I like Land of Hope and Glory, especially if you were all to bob up and down when singing it like at the last night of the proms

Aimsmum · 04/02/2011 20:08

Flower of Scotland?? I love it! What's to be embarrassed about?

fishtankneedscleaning · 04/02/2011 20:08

If you are talking about the English National Anthem YANBU. It is dire! Gwlad, Gwlad, Pleidion Rwyf I'm Glwad - Much more atmosphere and Nationality Spirit and Pride! :)

5Foot5 · 04/02/2011 20:09

I prefer Land of Hope and Glory, though Jerusalem is easier to sing

bettybosseye · 04/02/2011 20:13

YANBU if you are talking about the English one. And i know that technically it's the British anthem but no one but England would be seen dead singing it. Sorry but it's true.Grin
