I mean it's so clearly such a great stinking heap of horse shit, how can anyone actually believe it?
Another mum at playgroup today was telling me what kind of personality my 9 month old will have based solely on her star sign.
All pleasant enough stuff but she actually believed it.
What's wrong with people?

"I have no doubt that she will come into her own in time,I expect she will surprise you one day, seeker." As I said, she is fabulous the way she is - she just isn't "Dimsie of the Fifth", like my tediously hearty dd.

Dd wa born at 4.16 in the morninng of December 21, dn at about 9.00am on December 29th, by the way.

bettybosseye · 06/02/2011 21:12

Lamorna- despite your belief in all this crack pot nonsense, i do admire your tenacity. This is the thread that keeps on giving.Smile

Lamorna, there are plenty of threads where people can discuss woo to their hearts' content without us rational types popping in to point and laugh (well, most of the time). There are lots of dimwits people who do take all this crap seriously. And there is also the whole rest of MN to enjoy and learn from (I mean in the sense of acquiring useful information about parenthood/chicken-keeping/health/eyeliner and handbags, whatever floats your boat). You will not be chased and mocked all round the boards on the grounds that you are a bit of a woo-head unless you make a big deal of it.

seeker · 06/02/2011 21:29

Actually - I've jsut realized that "I have no doubt that she will come into her own in time,I expect she will surprise you one day, seeker." has made me really very angry indeed. Iwasn't asking for, or offering value judgements. I posted about the two girls on another thread because their difference has made things a bit difficult between my brother an me - not because I thought that my dn was in some way inferior to my dd. She isn;t - she is just really really different. Perfect, but different.

Lamorna · 06/02/2011 21:40

To be perfectly honest, seeker, given the extra information, I would still have put it the way that I did! So for those of you think it is baloney, you have won. Grin
(I still think it works, just that I am not very good and while I am sure that she DN is lovely at the moment, I think she might be a real surprise later in life.)
All I can think of at the moment is that the Sagittarian is more outgoing than the Capricorn, especially with jupiter in Sagittarius too but I would still have liked it the other way around.
I thought of keeping a dignified silence but since you gave the times it seemed only fair.I think it is time for me to bury the astrology back where it was until I started on here!
I shall keep reading in case someone with more knowledge can come along and tell me where I am wrong (I mean someone with astrological knowledge, I think we already know I am wrong because I am an idiot Grin)
I will try and stop posting.
Perhaps glitterkitty could say?

Lamorna · 06/02/2011 21:45

Sorry cross posted seeker, I'm not sure why you think I think she is inferior to your DD, I don't. I wasn't making a judgement. Just that while your DD may be the enthusiastic, get involved type I think that DN has a lot of hidden depths that aren't as immediately obvious. They have very similar charts.

Lamorna · 06/02/2011 21:52

I should add that as I was far more like your DN at school, I don't feel that I was in any way inferior and as I have 2 DSs who are as different as chalk and cheese I value you them equally, playing team games, being a scout etc doesn't make one superior to the one who doesn't. Sorry if I gave that impression.

Lamorna · 06/02/2011 21:53

Hope you can sort that sentence out-written badly in haste and really am stopping.

claig · 06/02/2011 21:55

SGB, what is your star sign?

claig · 06/02/2011 22:00

Are you a Taurus?

Psammead · 06/02/2011 22:08

If she is, I think that's the very definition of a red rag to a bull Grin

claig · 06/02/2011 22:14

Who believes in astrology and what sign are you?
Who doesn't believe and what sign are you?

glitterkitty · 06/02/2011 22:27

Lamorna/ Seeker

I'd also need place of birth to do a chart.

I have used London- this may be way out. According to her chart the one born on 21st is a double Sag/Sag. Thats nice- she wont be too conflicted, although possibly a little rash. With a scorpio ascendant she could be pretty reserved/ sensitive though. Is she intense- self contained? Independent?

Exactly Beertricks.

I said I worked in astrology.

I have never said I believed in it.

It paid the bills. And people enjoy having a chart done

However... once you have learned to do it- very hard to not do it!

glitterkitty · 06/02/2011 22:35

So apologies seeker- may not fit your dd/dn at all! Its just what the chart says...

Lamorna - well of course Capricorns don't like astrology. You get told by someone when you're little that you're a stinky goat FFS Grin of course you don't believe that!

I'm curious to know if this empirical rule applies to antipodeans.

StuffingGoldBrass · 07/02/2011 00:52

Hey I have Tarot cards somewhere. I had a woo phase in my teens, as lots of people do (in my case it was at least partly a reaction against the sexism of the Abrahamic superstitions anyway). I found Tarot cards a useful way of giving unpalatable advice to woohead friends.

glitterkitty · 07/02/2011 08:25

Thats an idea sgb. Maybe i should ressurect my tarot skills for the office.

Snorbs · 07/02/2011 09:26

"...and this card is the Hierophant, which in conjunction with the Hanged Man you just turned over means that you are unjustifiably devoted to a hetero-monogamous lifestyle. Also you're a gullible twat." Grin

tigertiger09 · 07/02/2011 21:13

You know what there are some nasty people on here, how is it you cannot grasp that people have their own ideas and you may not agree with them but you have to respect them , i see none of that from some on here...you knows who you are !
And where are the monitors how is swearing aloud and being damn right nasty to someone ok ?
I left this site long ago cos of the nastiness of some of the posters on here, not cool if your a first time visitor to see women folk arguing and swearing like builders...Life is hard enough where is the sisterhood earth mothers my backside !!!
You should be ashamed of yourself some of you, but you wont be cos for some sad reason, probably your life is so grim the only pleasure you get is arguing on the net !
Monitors take note this site need monitoring cos some folk are evil on here
goodnight

Snorbs · 07/02/2011 21:29

Why do you have to respect other people's ideas regardless of how ridiculous they are?

Also, as best I know, mumsnet has always allowed swearing. I think that MNHQ regard us all as adults you see. You may not like it in which case I suggest you find one of the many parenting sites (eg, netmums) that do not allow swearing.

Finally, what do you mean by "earth mothers"?

GrimmaTheNome · 07/02/2011 23:31

I hadn't noticed this being a particularly sweary thread anyway.Confused Or being really nasty - the primary proponent of astrology on this thread seems to have gleaned a fair bit of affection for her cheerful attitude - and respect for her character even if we mostly retain the right to disrespect astrology itself.

CoteDAzur · 08/02/2011 18:45

tiger - You will no doubt take this as "nastiness", but I have to point out if ever I will take scolding from someone, it will not be from an adult with the writing skills of an uneducated 10 year old.

If that hurts your "backside", feel free to buzz back to Netmums.
