to think that "fat shops" like Evans and Ann Harvey don't do their customers any favours by making their sizes much larger than they usually are?

Was in London last week, nipped into both. Tried on jeans in Evans, even a size 16 was too big (and I am SO not a 16). Went into Horrible Ann Harvey, Polyester Queen, and overheard the woman saying to a customer, "No, the sizes come up much bigger than in regular shops. If you're a size 16 in M & S, there won't be anything here to fit you."

Is this not going to lull porkers (I am one, I am allowed to say that) into a false sense of their own size, if they think, oh I am "only" a size 16, which is not too bad, when actually they are probably a 22+ in "normal" shops?

You have to wonder how the zombie reincarnator even found this thread!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/01/2017 22:34

Temp that is very clever! Grin

harderandharder2breathe · 02/01/2017 22:40

A 16 in Evans is more like an 18 most places. Just as most other shops can vary at least a size

There isn't much overlap between Evans and most other "normal" clothes shops.

Trust me, as a fat person, I know full well I'm fat. It doesn't matter what it says on my clothes labels, if Evans suddenly started calling a size 22 a size 8 I wouldn't think I'd lost half my body weight. We're fat not stupid

Hawkmoth · 02/01/2017 22:40

Also nothing for pear shapes.

ALemonyPea · 02/01/2017 22:44

Grin Livia

2011 seems so far away

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/01/2017 22:59

I thought this thread looked familiar... Hmm

Don't think they do any favours by having so many lines in manmade fabrics. If your big hot and sweaty which I am you certainly don't need anything in sweaty polyester.

pimmsy · 02/01/2017 23:09

MrsSchadenfreude

If you are still in Paris and are near Rue Jean Pierre Timbaud in the 11th this little shop tictail.com/s/paulineetjulie have some quite nice things in all sizes.... I'm a size 14 (42 French) and find Paris a right bore for clothes but I stumbled across this boutique "par hasard" and it has some well cut stuff!

Christmassnake · 02/01/2017 23:12

Having read up to page 7.... I recently bought my usual size (18) in yours clothing.a lovely black baggy jumper...stupidly I didn't try it on,or keep the recipt.was rushing.....oh my god...it's a size 24 at least...and I look huge in it...won't make that mistake again....99% of my stuff is size 18 in new look..so clearly had i of tried on the jumper I'm guessing I could of bought a size 14,... but I'm not stupid enough to think I'd be a size 14 in new look....in my head I'd probably agree ,I'm a porker...say it my face and I will tell you to fuck right of

glitterazi · 02/01/2017 23:14

Ooh, got a couple of pages in, noticed the name GwendolineMaryLacey, thought "haven't seen that name for a while!" clocked the date and realised it was a zombie Grin
Although never get the whole zombie angst on here. With timely things that need an immediate answer, yes.
Whether you're too much of a chubster to fit into high street clothes such as River Island or Top Shop and have to fit into fatty chains or not is always relevant though lol. Grin
I'm a total lard arse who needs to lose approx 4 stone.

Christmassnake · 02/01/2017 23:24

Oh for fucks sake, cheers my dears for wasting half an hour of my life on a bloody zombie thread..

As someone who is way more than four stone overweight I find that comment a tad offensive. And 'chubster' is a fucking horrible word

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/01/2017 23:30

Although Tbf I think the OP started with the offensive descriptions

brasty · 02/01/2017 23:33

I am fat. Everywhere I shop sizes are widely different. No it doesn't lull me into thinking I am thinner than I am. It just bloody annoys me.

brasty · 02/01/2017 23:34

FFS another zombie thread

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/01/2017 23:36

I got told off for pointing out that a thread was a zombie thread a few days ago...

Sahhhhh · 02/01/2017 23:42

Is it offensive for fat people to call themselves porkers or chubsters?

glitterazi · 02/01/2017 23:44

Oh Gawd, I wasn't being entirely serious. Hence the Grin after my words.
Totally appreciate sometimes being extremely overweight isn't a choice and can't be helped.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/01/2017 23:45

It's offensive when it's used in general actually. And people calling themselves those names when they may actually be thinner than other posters is offensive, yes.

glitterazi · 02/01/2017 23:48

I acknowledge I'm a fatty lard arse, but also know that it's my own crap self that's let myself slide.
I'm 5ft 3, always been 9st or just under. Perfect weight for height. For fair few years though been over 13 stone.
I call myself a chubster. As I know I seriously am one and need to change! Smile

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/01/2017 23:50

I knew you weren't being serious by the 'lol' at the end.

I am overweight because I eat too much and don't exercise enough. So mine can be helped. Generally I don't give a toss. Then I read a thread about 'porkers' and 'chubsters' and it just reminds me how completely insulting some people are!

glitterazi · 02/01/2017 23:51

OK, genuine question now. Why is it offensive to use words such as chubster or lard arse now? Since when did we become such a bunch of special snowflakes?
Say it like it is. If you're fat, you're fat. I'm fat. I need to change, hence my New Year's Resolution. Want to be a couple of stone lighter this time next year. Smile

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/01/2017 23:52

Call yourself what you want but if you are a chubster or whatever at 13 stone, what does that make people heavier than you? Can't you see why people would take exception to that?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/01/2017 23:53

If you can't see how it's offensive, presumably you would have no issue in calling a friend, family member or stranger that to their face?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/01/2017 23:54

'Fat' is factual - fine

Chubster and lard arse are nasty insulting names
