DH does n't feel the cold. So we have the Spring duvet (8 tog) on the bed and never the whole thing.

The kitchen thermostat is 13 degrees and the woodburner get the sitting room up to 16 sometimes.

The children run around and don't seem to feel it. The cold makes me sluggish, irratable and depressed. If I'm running around tidying up it's ok but once I sit down at the lap top or to read a book I feel like my brain is grinding to a halt during the winter time.

DH is a DIY kind of person but tends to ignore all advice to fit extra radiators or get a proper plumber in to get the ones we've got work properly.

AIBU to want a warmer house.

Dh constantly turns up the thermostat and I turn it down again - but he wants it at 22+ while I'm happy at 18-20, so not quite as cool as your situation! I'm just trying to save a few pennies, but couldn't cope with 16 or 14.

StealthPolarBrocolli · 29/01/2011 17:33

I'm back :)

No, doesn't really bother me, just thought it was funny that we have such similar names
But she is ignoring me :(

YANBU, it's too cold.

WillieWaggledagger · 29/01/2011 17:34

that is cold, and I would be miserable. it would possibly be ok if you were buzzing around and cleaning, but if I have to sit down and work i would be cold regardless of warm clothing.

mind you, our kitchen is unheated and thermostat is saying 5 degrees in there at the moment. we cook and wash up in outdoor clothing.

13 is horrible Sad.

Mines on 22 at the moment and I have loads of layers on. My bones get cold and my lips go blue unless it's hot Blush.

LaWeaselMys · 29/01/2011 17:37

I turned ours to 13 yesterday because we got a massive heating bill. Had to turn it up to 15 this morning though as it was unbearable. I currently have a cold nose but it's an acceptable coldness.

13 all the time is way too cold!

Start sneaking it up one degree a week. Bet he won't even notice.

duchesse · 29/01/2011 17:37

It's flipping cold. I should know as it's what our house is in the daytime. It's a lot warmer than our night-time temperature which can drop to around 4-5C. During the cold snap the temperature was dropping to about 8-9C in the daytime. I turned the heating back on.

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 29/01/2011 17:37

i've no idea what temp it is in here, but it's very very cold.
i've got two layers on my feet and a long-sleeved teehsirt and jumper, but I'm freezing.

but i'll be going home in about 10 mins, where it's lovely and warm

amerryscot · 29/01/2011 17:39

13C is chilly.

I think the recommended temp for overnight, when you are snuggled up is 16C.

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 29/01/2011 17:40

That's bloody freezing.

It's about the same temp as in here right now, but that's because I've been cleaning and had the door, windows etc open getting a bit of fresh air in and around the place!

Now the doors & windows are shut and the heating is ON!! It will get to about 21-22ish.

bibbitybobbityhat · 29/01/2011 17:41

I went to be early last night because I was getting very cold. The temperature in the house dropped quickly when the heating went off, I guess because its particularly cold outside.

So I noticed the temp in the bedroom was 16 when I went to bed and I really was cold by then. I absolutely could not tolerate a house that was only 13 deg during the day time.

YANBU.

Remotew · 29/01/2011 17:41

It's 25 in my house. I feel the cold alot. I prefer the house cold overnight though and knock the heating off 2 hours before bedtime, sleep in PJ's and snuggly socks.

YANBU, not good for you to be so cold sat in your own home.

wonderstuff · 29/01/2011 17:41

YANBU - 18 minimum imo - isn't 20 supposed to be where most people are comfortable?

StealthPolarBrocolli · 29/01/2011 17:42

wow abouteve do you wander round in a bikini?

pigsinmud · 29/01/2011 17:42

Our thermostat is at 16/17. I don't have the heating on Mon-Fri as I can't justify heating huge house with just me in it. Never have heating on at night. Does anyone? Can't see the point as we are all under duvets. A lot of people find our house cold. I think you get used to heating at a certain level. I find other peoples houses far too hot!

Wear a few more jumpers. Do you have any heating as you only mention kitchen and sitting room? We don't have heating in our kitchen and it's stuck out on it's own with nothing above or around it and it can be freezing. I hate going down first thing in the morning.

If no-one else notices the cold that makes it a bit tricky.

belgo · 29/01/2011 17:43

We have 18 in the warmest room, it's comfortable. I put it up to 19.5 today and got too hot and dry.

Upstairs it's very cold, colder then 13, but that's not a problem at night, we just have warm pyjamas and duvet and hot water bottle.

valiumredhead · 29/01/2011 17:44

It's not too cold for me - we rarely have the heating on unless it;s REALLY cold, dh likes it a bit warmer than ds and I do. I loathe central heating, makes me feel ill. People are different though, and if it makes you feel awful to be cold YANBU.

lubeybooby · 29/01/2011 17:44

13 is way too cold, so is 16 for daytime. I spend a fortune on heating but I can't bear it below 20 in the day (not for too long anyway)

YANBU

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 29/01/2011 17:45

SPB - I think some thermostats aren't as accurate as other and it depends where your temp is taken from really doesn't it. My Aunties can say 20 and be like a hot house because hers is taken from a 'cool' room in the house, my friends is on 25 but it's cold in there because hers is next to a radiator!

I only have heaters and they're cranked up right now till it gets warm enough to stop shivering!! I think I need to go and do some more cleaning until it warms up.... back later!
