Wouldn't bother me.
I'll be dead.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 27/01/2011 22:48

I don't see what the problem is.

FunnysInTheGarden · 27/01/2011 22:49

I'm all for eco measures. If the crem had been plugged into the national grid, no one would be any the wiser

EvilTwins · 27/01/2011 22:50

YABU. And stupid, by reading an article in the Daily Fail and assuming it's the "truth".

This is in my local area, and has been reported far less emotively on the BBC news.

It seems like a fairly sensible plan to use what would be otherwise wasted energy.

"disrespectful to the dead"??? Er... no. No more than it is to use the soil in a grave to grow flowers.

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 27/01/2011 22:51

Sounds like a great plan, what's the problem?

Rhinestone · 27/01/2011 22:51

Hmm...it wouldn't bother me if I was the dead person but it would bother me if one of my loved ones was the dead person.

So YANBU!

PrivetDancer · 27/01/2011 22:51

How is it more respectful to let all that heat go to waste?
I wouldn't mind if it was me.

OTTMummA · 27/01/2011 22:51

Why is it weird?

Morloth · 27/01/2011 22:53

Sounds clever to me, excellent use of resources.

It wouldn't worry me. When DH and I die, we would like to be scattered near an apple tree in the garden, we think the ash will be good for it, and we would be happy for our remains to be of some use. If that's not possible ensuring people have a warmish swim would be OK too.

BuzzLightBeer · 27/01/2011 22:54

Disrespectful in what way? Its the excess heat from the ovens, why would you waste it? And why the fuck would you care if you are dead? Confused

AuntiePickleBottom · 27/01/2011 22:55

Dead Bodies Power Heating.

thats how it reads to me, probaby being over sesitive

Wouldn't bother me in anyway. Glad to see I'm not alone.

oneglassandpuzzled · 27/01/2011 23:00

It is just heat; nothing to do with the bodies. It is reusing energy. Good idea.

OhForBoonessSake · 27/01/2011 23:02

dont be ridiculous. how is it disrespectful? they are using energy created by the crematorium. energy that is otherwise wasted. it makes perfect sense.

BuzzLightBeer · 27/01/2011 23:02

Its not being powered by dead bodies, it being powered by the heat that is wasted in heating the ovens. Not the same thing.
Death isn't something to be precious about.

Morloth · 27/01/2011 23:02

Even if it is Dead Bodies Power Heating why would it matter?

If they start murdering people to feed the furnaces that would be one thing, but why waste 'free' energy?

ItsMeMo · 27/01/2011 23:02

Sounds good to me

Clunge · 27/01/2011 23:04

I don't see what the fuss is about. They are using the excess heat, not the actual bodies themselves.

I'm all for helping give people a warm pool to swim in when I pop my clogs.

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 27/01/2011 23:04

It's not the bodies that create the heat though, is it? If it were gas given off from bodies, that would be a different thing, it is simply using the extra energy that is wasted.
If we aren't prepared to look at such schemes, our fuel will run out even quicker than expected. (Not long, sadly)

Incidentally, I live nearby, and although DD wasn't created in the crematorium but a neighbouring one, as a bereaved parent I would have absolutely no qualms about heat from her cremation being used for the greater good.

McHobbes · 27/01/2011 23:04

It's a good idea!

The dead won't give a toss.
