If you choose a Green Burial you can enjoy the full Cycle of Life. Get buried in a basket or shroud and as Grendelsmum said plant a tree or have a bird box instead of a headstone. The area then goes back to nature and becomes a woodland for our children and future generations to enjoy. If you still want to be cremated you can put your ashes in an urn made out of basket or cardboard

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/01/2011 16:39

I'm having a nice woven coffin and a woodland burial
BTW cremation done using a wicker coffin isn't very environmentally friendly as they take longer/are harder to burn than usual coffins-I read that somewhere.
Cremation scares me -I'm afraid of fire,so that's probably it. My brother who died when he was ten was cremated and that has always bothered me.

LadyALF · 01/02/2011 09:52

I think it's a great idea - I know of one very local to me in North Lincolnshire - have you already pre-booked your plot?

Nagoo · 01/02/2011 09:58

I didn't understand the fuss myself.

Nagoo · 01/02/2011 10:00

i would encourage everyone to go for woodland burial. They are going to be the only areas of woodland we've got left.... Sad

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/02/2011 10:02

Of course it's not. It's not even as if the heat from burning bodies is making any significant differnce - it will be the heat from the furnace that needs to get hot enough to make the bodies burn.

Heat is heat is heat, and dead is dead.

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/02/2011 10:45

there is a woodland burial ground fairly near to us- haven't got around to reserving my plot though Grin

LadyALF · 01/02/2011 11:52

I'm using a Green Burial site called called Respect - and like Nagoo said it will be the only woodland area left for us to use in the future if the recent news is anything to go by. I'm going to pre-book as the price is frozen at today's costs. Hopefully won't need it for a while but I'm all for saving money smile

shockers · 01/02/2011 11:58

My friend has just been buried in a woodland burial site Sad. I know she would have liked it there. That's what I have told my family I want too.

LadyALF · 01/02/2011 12:10

I am sorry to hear about your friend. Did you find the funeral was a much better experience than a normal funeral? I know that sounds a bit heartless but I hope you know what I mean. Which one was it?

shockers · 01/02/2011 12:25

The funeral was held at a Church near to us because there were about 450 people there. It was beautiful and full of honesty (she took her own life). I wish she could have seen (and believed) how many people loved her. The burial was just immediate family but her friends can 'visit' her now whenever they want/ need to. It's at Much Hoole near Southport.

KayHarker · 08/02/2011 09:45

And it's been approved. See here

SexyDomesticatedDab · 08/02/2011 09:48

Its a great idea re-cycling the heat - does it matter why the heat was generated in the first place. Think many people would like the idea that the process is not wholly wasteful.

cuntingmolefuckedIpom · 18/02/2011 16:32

London's Burning!

I watched that religiously.

cuntingmolefuckedIpom · 18/02/2011 16:34

Wrong thread.

Sorry.

CalamityKate · 18/02/2011 16:41

I think it's very sensible and dead people don't care. And if when my parents were cremated they'd helped to heat a swimming pool I wouldn't have cared either, because I hate cold swimming pools myself and it being cold wouldn't have made my parents any less dead.

So YABU.

MumInBeds · 18/02/2011 16:41

In Luton they are building the new pool almost next door to the crem, I wonder if this is part of the plan.
