Horrid old bigots, say I.

BitOfFun - kinda making my point for me there, doncha think?

Melty · 18/01/2011 22:04

Unrulysun, I'm sure if you let me know whe you are going away next, I could organise my friends to join you for breakfast. (And have a sloppy snog to add spice to your grapefruit). Grin

pascoe28 · 18/01/2011 22:04

BecauseImWorthIt - bless, tying yourself up in knots over how offended to claim to be, are we??

One of the main reasons the first laws on discrimination focussed on race and gender (as opposed to religion, orientation etc) was precisely because one has no choice over such categories.

Missed my point completely but then, that was your intention all alond, wasn't it?

BuzzLightBeer · 18/01/2011 22:04

you didn't answer the question pascoe, you just danced around it.

Is it ok to say no black people in my hotel? Yes or No?

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/01/2011 22:05

No, I didn't miss your point. Nor could I miss how offensive you are, pascoe28.

pascoe28 · 18/01/2011 22:05

BuzzLightBeer - no.

Unrulysun · 18/01/2011 22:05

Sorry bof - x post - I meant the terribly erudite use of Latin but thanks for the Caravaggio - I shall enjoy it with my cornflakes.

pascoe28 · 18/01/2011 22:06

BecauseImWorthIt - thank you for helping me make my point...I'm clearly struggling to do so by myself!!

BuzzLightBeer · 18/01/2011 22:06

ok, so what is the difference then? In one sentence if you can.

Melty · 18/01/2011 22:06

Do you really think that we have a choice over our sexuality Pascoe ?

Seriously?

Oh dear God.

imgonnaliveforever · 18/01/2011 22:07

Consider the following job advert:

Wanted: Sexual Counsellor (No Christians, Jews or Muslims)

winnybella · 18/01/2011 22:08

I think you'll find that all mainstream religions have unsavoury (by today's standards) bits in them.

Where do we draw the line, then?

Say, intifadah is a bit extreme. What about an eye for eye? Up to which points can your views be supported and justified by your religion?

If they don't want to invite gays into their home, that's fine. Their choice.

If they ban gays from their business, then it's not ok.

Is it also ok to refuse to hire gays, for example?

lal123 · 18/01/2011 22:09

I am Shock at some of the crap being spouted by seemingly intelligent people on this thread! So - it's OK to discriminate against gays in some hotels because most people don't discriminate and they could just go there? The blacks on the bus analogy is a perfect one. Blacks were allowed on the buses - but they were only allowed to sit in certain seats. Gays are allowed to go on holiday but they can only stay in certain hotels - the good god fearing hotels won't let them in....

I am astounded that people are defending this bigoted couple. Just because people do things in the name of religion doesn't mean they are right. Is Jihad right? Is it right to stone adulterers? Is it right to kill and rape in the name of religion?? No - it's not. Religious beliefs are no defense against any of this.

Pascoe - would you respect the beliefs of someone who says that you are going to hell, that you and your partner are sinners and that your children are bastards who will also go to hell?

pascoe28 · 18/01/2011 22:09

Melty - over the extent to which we display it, yes.

As I said, unmarried couple of any orientation can 'play the game' in order to abide by the rules of the hotel or they can go elsewhere.

NonnoMum · 18/01/2011 22:09

Just a thought - Dawn French doesn't have a sister.

Or a vicar-sister.

Just a brother.

Confused

(I've read "Dear Fattie, donchaknow)

Unrulysun · 18/01/2011 22:10

Melty I am on mat leave and therefore not likely to get away in the near future but if I pm you my address d'you think they'd come over and perform at the weekend?

pascoe28 · 18/01/2011 22:10

lal123 - yes.

BuzzLightBeer · 18/01/2011 22:10

one of them should have worn a dress? Confused You don't make much sense pascoe.

lal123 · 18/01/2011 22:11

"play the game" - jesus! Why on earth should someone have to hide their sexuality???

winnybella · 18/01/2011 22:11

And why should gays have to 'bite the bullet"?

They can't choose to be straight, so they should hide their sexual preferences?

Would that be acceptable when renting a room in a hotel? What about when applying for a job?

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/01/2011 22:11

Pascoe - I'm not claiming to be offended, by the way. I am offended. As I shouted earlier in the thread, my son is gay.

lal123 · 18/01/2011 22:12

So you'd respect the beliefs of someone who thought that as an unmarried woman who had had sex outside marriage you deserve to die? I take back what I said about "seemingly intelligent"

winnybella · 18/01/2011 22:12

pascoe- would you kindly reply to my last two posts, please?

GemmaWard · 18/01/2011 22:14

common decency

That's the trouble with sodomy. The shit makes a frightful mess of the sheets and the chambermaids resign.

Unrulysun · 18/01/2011 22:14

I'm loving the idea that they could just pretend to be straight and that we only have anti-discrimination laws for race because people can't pretend to be white.

I really admire those of you who can be bothered to argue with someone whose mind works like that. Bless you you patient patient people :)
