Yes. I must find out from my housekeeper how to "do" tie-dye.

naturalbaby · 15/01/2011 13:09

there are some fetching tie dye nappies available online Grin not sure quite how to dress dc's to show off their nappies in this weather though (nappy and baby leg warmers being summer atire).

LadyOfTheManor · 15/01/2011 13:11

My lo doesn't have the luxury of fleece bottoms. He has liners, cloth nappy and like waterproof pants on top. Plain white ones. They are cheap, wash easy and dry with a few shakes :o

I read somewhere once that stats can be used in the way a drunk uses a lamp post - for support rather than illumination. You can manipulate them to support any argument!

A1980 - thats based upon cloth nappies being washed TWICE at a very high temp then tumble dryed! I don't know anyone who has ever done that with their cloth nappies - so i take it as a bit of rubbish made up by the makers of disposable nappies. My kids wee nappies just get chucked in with the family clothes and all the nappies dry on an internal or external line - so it's a cheap way forward for us.

The county council supports cloth nappy use here and twice the county council have given me(and others)money in order to buy cloth nappies.

missmehalia · 15/01/2011 14:49

I'm here all week.

HermyaLovesLysander · 15/01/2011 15:30

I use cloth nappies because I'm too lazy to keep walking to Boots to buy disposables and to keep taking the bin out three times a week.

I also use cloth wipes as the bin is in the kitchen and the nappy bin is in the nursery.

I also resented paying £5 for a packet of nappies that my DS would just poo in and throw away. I resent less paying slightly more for reusables as I can wash them and use them again.

Really for me it's all about the laziness.

oldraver · 15/01/2011 15:43

Moonunit.. I wish washable wipes had been one of those things my mother told me about

I used cloth as it was cheaper and discovered washable wipes along the way and they were a Godsend with DS horrible sloppy sticky poo that used to take loads of wipes to deal with and make his bum sore

Mum just said one day "Oh yea in my day we used cut up flannels"... why didnt she speak up sooner Grin

OP, can you please explain why you have dedicated so much time to learning the names and brands of items that apparently make you almost hysterical with rage?

Before I started using cloth nappies and slings I had absolutely no idea that there was more than one type. I had never heard of a "bumbgenius" (that is to go on a baby's "bumb" right?) I had no idea what a mei tai was.

Do you spend hours obsessively googling nappy forums and stores in order to gnash your teeth and fume a little bit more?

Seriously, no-one cares if you don't like cloth nappies. And if this is the kind of pointless crap that gets you worked up then I wouldn't imagine anyone cares about your opinions at all. It must be pretty wearing to deal with this kind of hysteria all the time. "OH MY GOD. Those nappies offend me!", "OH MY GOD. That pram makes me feel ill!", "OH MY GOD. That baby's hat is the wrong shade of pink."

Maybe you should just stay home.

ragged · 15/01/2011 18:10

Why shouldn't cloth nappies have fetching-sounding names, as much as any other product? Like, er... Huggies? Pampers? Can't think of a single cloth nappy name that is any more naff than those.

Gosh, this thread is making me very hungry for lentils (though it's years since I had any, honest!).

COCKadoodledooo · 15/01/2011 21:01

I use cloth (ok, I don't, ds2 does). I'm not in any brigade, and frankly couldn't give a crap what anyone else uses.

Bloody glad we bought them for ds1 though - we're a hell of a lot skinter than when he was small, and not having to buy nappies each week definitely helps cut costs.

COCKadoodledooo · 15/01/2011 21:02

Oh and fwiw, we mostly use 'motherease'. Fucking hate the name with a passion (stereotype much?), but the nappies themselves are ace.

moshchops · 15/01/2011 21:11

ha ha, I used cloth because I am a bitch and it meant that dh(from whom I had temp split) would bring dd home quicker during his access. He is a banana, and wouldn't of thought to find out how to change dd's nappy or go and buy a bag of disposables.

poshsinglemum · 15/01/2011 21:23

Well you don't have to use them op.

PartialToACupOfMilo · 15/01/2011 21:27

Well that's me - I luuurve cloth nappies Grin

Persoanlly, I just do not understand why anyone would want to use disposibles...
