Connie

Why do you even care?

I'm half past give a shit when it comes to what Other People choose to do with regards feeding/covering their children's arses.

Are you lacking something in your life?

BertieBotts · 14/01/2011 20:08

ChunkyPickle Envy

I really wanted it to work out. I still feel bitter when I have to pin down 2yo DS to scrape crap off his bum and he's screaming because he hates being still for longer than about 3 seconds. But he's getting there. He actually asked for a nappy change the other day.

Nagoo · 14/01/2011 20:09

whispers cloth nappies are not any work at all if you dry pail.

please can I still have a medal for using them though?

Nagoo · 14/01/2011 20:10

well that wasn't was it?

hogshead · 14/01/2011 20:10

I use washable nappies purely to save money and to make sure I never ran out.

They've been ruddy brilliant but sometimes disposables are more convenient. I certainly don't feel smug about using them.

conniedescending · 14/01/2011 20:11

i dont particularly care - its just an irritation that I decided to post about after readig all this crap on fb again and again

daft things irritate all of us

clair sweeney irriates me when I see her on tv but i dont really care

can we only post about worthy issues?

OP posts:
ChunkyPickle · 14/01/2011 20:12

Bertie - yep, we've been lucky - I think it's because he loved looking in the mirror when I first tried it by holding him over the sink in the bathroom, then when we bought him a potty he loved it because it was like an armchair he could sit upright in (before he could sit on his own)

I haven't tried hard enough to have any success with the pee - it does take dedication, and now that poos are sorted I just don't have as much motivation

naturalbaby · 14/01/2011 20:12

can i have a medal for being lazy? that's why i use cloth, slings, bf and blw. have tried the other side and gone running back to the lazy options.

just remembered - add co-sleeping to the list.

FlyingFig · 14/01/2011 20:16

Claire Sweeney iritates me too - so does Jim Davidson.

But you speak of the 'Cloth Nappy Brigade' as if they're some sort of Hamas-related gun-toting group of nutters.

I must have missed that memo.

I HATE the cloth nappy brigade although to be fair my perspective is based on only one of them.

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I will begin.

I hired a child minder, she did not tell me when I hired her that she was pregnant. Eventually she told me and I didn't see it as a problem assuming she would give me reasonable notice etc. I spotted the fly ridden bucket of shitty cloth nappies from her existing sprog outside her front door but gave her the benefit of the doubt. Nearer the due date I explained that I had arranged alternative care while and could she give me a cut off date. She refused saying she didn't intend to take any leave. (Oh so it will be home birth and you will pop it out before the school run?) At this time I was working on the road a lot and travelling as far south as Cambridge (from Manc) in a day.

I freaked out and gave her notice. She called me a 'fucking bitch' infront of ds and her other mindees (ds told me) so I withdrew DS pronto - he didn't want to go back at all.

Yes I hate cloth nappy potty mouths.

Thank you for letting me rant - I didn't realise it still irked me. Poor DS being stuck in the care of such a freak of nature. Angry

MintAeroBar · 14/01/2011 20:20

I agree all those things on my list are 'lazy' and sooooooooo much easier! All hail the laziness!! Grin

I shall also add cosleeping!

conniedescending · 14/01/2011 20:22

how on earth can cloth nappies be lazier than disposables?

all that scraping and sluicing

OP posts:
nubbins · 14/01/2011 20:24

BF - check
second hand cloth - check
slings - check
BLW - check
4x4 - check
nappucino's - check
home-birth - check
co-slept - check

AND I even have badges for some of them.

Never been in a brigade though, and also more to do with lazyness and being tight. Anyone wanna join me in a carbon liberation brigade?

Biodegradable liners flush, no scraping
Dry pail, no sluicing.

Methinks you have no experience on this topic.

MintAeroBar · 14/01/2011 20:31

Dammit I missed out on the home birth medal!! Angry

BertieBotts · 14/01/2011 20:32

Chunky - I think that's it. DS hated sitting still so it all went to pot when he could roll. He learned to crawl before he could sit up - he's never liked just sitting watching things, he has to be moving! Maybe I'll have more success with (possible) future DCs :)

missmehalia · 14/01/2011 20:33

I had all good intentions of using cloth. Never happened at the beginning (unexpected CS). So, disposables. And when we did get around to using the nice cloth ones, the crap shot out the leg of every single one, producing more and more washing. Not to mention being hideously movement-restrictive for poor DD as she became more mobile.

And if we went out we used disposables. Which was twice a day most days. So they've been a waste of time for us. Not to mention the amount of washing was shocking... Boots deliver the nearest to eco-friendly nappies we can get every 6 weeks.

Cloth nappies still gathering dust under the cotbed. They're a great theory. As a family, we do enormous amounts of things for the planet, I'll just have to live with this one.

Wish I was perfect...

naturalbaby · 14/01/2011 20:33

tip poo in loo, chuck nappy in bin, chuck contents in washing machine, hang out to dry and bingo - nice clean stash of (fluffy) nappies. the washing machine is on pretty much all day every day so an extra load every now and then is a decent payoff for not having to shell out on massive packs of disposibles when my shopping trolley is full enough as it is and dh complains that the weekly shop is driving us into poverty. not exactly rocket science, very much a lazy option for me.

missmehalia · 14/01/2011 20:34

BTW, those degradable liners don't degrade all that well. Friend who's done some work in the sewers told me...

naturalbaby · 14/01/2011 20:35

(jumps up and down with excitement and adds home birth to the list)

naturalbaby · 14/01/2011 20:36

reusable fleece liners and wipes for us (shines halo)
