Suppose this is the wrong place to come for hugs, but I do like it here.

I've been bleeding on and off for a few weeks and had strange symptoms, fluttery stomach, pains in my bum and back, now my shoulder is killing me.

Got to ring for an emergency drs appointment tomorrow for the afternoon and I'm so scared.

I really, really am scared of being examined and what they might say. I'm crying just thinking about being examined. I'm such a baby

Sorry you are feeling unwell, your shoulder hurting could be stress and worry from the other things.

Get yourself in to the doctor and see what they say could be something real simple.

Please try to see this as a positive move,you are seeking out medical help and fingers crossed,it won't be anything scary.

I do hope your examination goes smoothly,please tell your GP you are very anxious so they can reassure you.

It's horrible to be feeling unwell and not knowing why isn't it?
Could be that the shoulder pain is "referred" pain - when a problem in one place causes pain in another? Maybe your back problem.

You are doing the right thing - you'll get sorted out and they'll find out what's going on.

Don't be nervous, Docs have seen/heard it all before!

How long ago did he have the snip? When was your last period?

Previous doc offered me a sedative to get me to have a smear, I said unless he could give me them for a week before it wouldn't help.

(Bad experience with a nurse once)

Snip five years ago. Came off pill in October. Periods started going whacky in early December, have bled lighter for one period, off for a week, three days bleeding, then pretty much repeated like that until last week when (what felt like) another proper but lighter period finished last Tuesday and thought it had settled down.

Light bleeding started again today.

Whatever you do, DO NOT GOOGLE.

I promise, it will only make things worse.

The pains in the back and shoulder are symptoms of an etopic pregnancy. Could you do a home pregnancy test just to rule that out?

Where are you bleeding from? If it's vaginal you could have a urine infection in which case you'd just have to give the GP a urine sample. If it's from behind then you would have to have a rectal examination but it's over and done with within seconds and, I always think anyway, that it's worse for the person doing the examining!

The fluttery tummy could be caused by the worry so please please go and see your GP or find out if your local hospital runs a Well Woman clinic.

Do you have any relaxation cd's or mp3's OP?

It really could help if you downloaded some tonight and listened to them in bed,just to calm your mind.

I understand about having a traumatic examination (I had one at 17 and subsequently miscarried,evil so called GP )but it was a one off.

Ask for a nurse to accompany you and if your panic is too much to bear,get your appointment re-jigged and ask for a sedative script so you can attend calmly.

Do you have anyone that can go with you?

I went to buy a test tonight and the shop was out of stock, so I'll wait til tomorrow.

I had severe shoulder pain as referred pain when I had a miscarriage years ago. I think the shoulder often does this with gynae problems. You are doing the right thing going to the docs. No need to be nervous - they are there to look after you.

If you don't like examinations, try taking your mind off it by concentrating on keeping your breathing slow and steady and 'replay' your favourite song very loudly inside your head.

It was very on and off. But when it was on it was excruciating.

I'm not trying to suggest you are miscarrying - just that problems in our ladybits (sorry, it's late and I can't think of a better word ) do sometimes send referred pain to the shoulder.

Coming off the pill can screw up your periods for a while - mine disappeared totally for 6 months then came and went when they pleased for another six months so the whacky bleeding could be related to that although bleeding for days and days is always worth getting checked out, as are any other seemingly related pains, hope you feel a little calmer at the appointment, sometimes the anticipation is worse than the event x

It's definitely not excruciating, in fact it's a lot easier than my usual periods are in terms of pain and flow.

Oh, did you mean the bleeding? No, for me the bleeding happened in one go, lasting about a week in all.

Shoulder pain is still there and worsening, but hard to know if it was my first day back at the gym yesterday!

I don't want to worry OH so haven't told him what it could be (other than telling him I'm worried I have something seriously wrong and that I might die, which I know is so pathetic).

Scaredy, so sorry you are going through this. Is it just one shoulder thats sore? whereabouts in your shoulder is the pain? As that is a good indication of whats causing it. If its the actual ball joint thats hurting, its most likely from your time at the gym. Shoulder tip pain, however, is usually reffered and could well be gynae related. Is the bleeding any heavier? If you are very worried about it, please just go to A&E. It will mean the V exam is done sooner but at least it is over and done with and you'll start to get some answers

I'm struggling to know what shoulder tip means - the pain is in my shoulder and the top of my arm, and round towards the front of my chest above my boob (right boob, not the heart side).

I know what it could be but it seems pretty impossible - but obviously I'd rather it was that than cancer.

I think that you are right to be concerned. Bleeding, back and shoulder pain are all indicators of a potential ectopic pregnancy. If the pain is worsening I would call NHS24. Better to have a false alarm than the alternative.

You have had symptons for a fortnight which is too long. An ectopic pregnancy is potentially dangerous so much better to rule it out.

I really think you could be panicking yourself into some of the symptoms - google is NOT always your friend!

I DO sympathise - I worry a lot about my health and "symptoms" terrify me to the point of sleeplessness - and I HATE internal exams too.

Have a virtual hug - I think a sedative might help, and the unknown is always very scary - you will feel much better when you've got the appt over and done with.
