Don't think IWU but need an MN check.
So, I was walking from the park with my dds aged 4 and 7 and my dog on a short lead. Dog is a boxer/lab cross but often mistaken for a staffy and, to people who don't know dogs, can look a bit scary because of that.

Anyway, old lady comes up the street. Girls were a bit ahead on scooters so told them to slow down and be careful passing her. But as I came up, she shouted 'No dogs here please, take him to the park'. I stopped so she could pass and said 'It's OK, he's on a lead'. At this point she walked by and screamed back 'Bloody bitch!' Shock

I was tempted to go after her because I was pretty annoyed that she'd sworn at me in front of my children but figured it might make things worse.

I really don't think IWU, I mean I was walking down the road with a dog on a lead, dog wasn't barking or acting aggressively. I can't help being bothered by being called a bloody bitch by a complete stranger so just need to check that it was her not me...

Sounds like a fruitloop. YANBU.

Iwantscallops · 08/01/2011 19:40

YANBU. What a horrible woman.

ChaoticAngelofAnarchy · 08/01/2011 19:41

YANBU

How does she expect you to take him to a park if you don't first walk down a street Confused

FabbyChic · 08/01/2011 19:41

She sounds like a nut job!

Iwantscallops · 08/01/2011 19:41

Anyway, even if you were on your way to the park you would still have to walk through the streets.

waitwhat · 08/01/2011 19:41

I have a lovely old rescue staffie who is well trained and behaves well yet complete strangers still feel the need to tell me i shouldn't have him if i have kids
"he will tear your kids face off the minute you turn your back"

Fuck off tends to be my reply

compo · 08/01/2011 19:42

She might have had mental health issues

BurnAfterReading · 08/01/2011 19:42

so presumably you need to live on a park in order to own a dog? How does little old lady from hell expect dog owners to get to the park in the first place...erm by walkning doen the road methinks...

Silly Woman, I'd have chased her for an apology - and if you see her again I'd still request that apology.

Narrowminded old fart!

I'd see the point if your dog was running riot, but quietly on lead begs no reason to be a nasty old boot!

Sounds like a crazy old woman to me. I would have shouted back though because I am a loud cow.

saffy85 · 08/01/2011 19:43

YANBU. No need for name calling, and never a good idea imo if the person you're calling "a bloody bitch" has what you consider a dangerous dog. Anyway your dog was on a lead so dunno what her ishoos were.

Ironic really as I imagine a boxer/labrador cross must be a very soppy, lovely dog! Smile

Louii · 08/01/2011 19:44

She more than likely had mental health issues, don't worry about it.

TheMonster · 08/01/2011 19:44

waitwhat, I get the same said to me about my three staffs. My standard reply is 'nope, they'll get you first'.

BurnAfterReading · 08/01/2011 19:45

mental health issues my arse lol, she was obviously an old busybody who looks for something to complain about everyday

beanlet · 08/01/2011 19:46

YADNBU, but she's probably bats, so you should try if you can be bothered to dredge up a bit of pity.

StataLover · 08/01/2011 19:46

That's what I was thinking - it would make sense if he was off-lead but people are entitled to walk dogs on lead on the pavement!

But remembered that a neighbour of mine suggested that I should muzzle him. Not because he's a dangerous dog or has ever shown any aggression to people (I wouldn't have an aggressive dog near my children), but because he looks like one.

Guessing the old woman must be terrified of dogs and just happens to have a mouth like a sewer. Just not what you expect though from an old woman with a scarf over her head and a walking stick (picture of the typical sweet old lady). My girls' jaws were on the floor and I had endless questions all the way home 'Mummy, what's a bloody bitch' 'Mummy, why was the old lady so angry with you' etc etc

btw meant to put the dangerous dog bit in quote marks ie "dangerous dog". I don't believe there are bad dogs as a rule, just bad owners.

Forgetting of quote marks got me into trouble already this evening.... Blush

LadyBubbaAndBump · 08/01/2011 19:46

Of course YWBU to walk your dog near her. How dare you?! You should have done exactly as Sugar says and teleported him, or, at the very least, have built yourself a wood cabin in the park to live in. Honestly, can't believe you're asking the question! Hmm

StataLover · 08/01/2011 19:48

Should add that I know that staffies aren't dangerous dogs either...

Lady, I reckon the OP knows her answer but is using this as something to vent her anger on..we all do it dont we?

LadyBubbaAndBump · 08/01/2011 19:50

I would have vented it on the silly old bint to be fair! OP showing much restraint :o

StataLover · 08/01/2011 19:51

LadyBubba

I know, you're right. Of course it was her and I can't think of anything else I could have done.

I think it's just the shock of being sworn at that's made me post because it's really been playing on my mind all evening.

OP posts:
Stangirl · 08/01/2011 19:51

YADNBU. However I am absolutely terrified of all dogs and secretly wish they were all banned. I think terrible things about anyone with a dog when they go by me and scare me shitless - but I know I am BU.

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/01/2011 19:53

Sadly there are a lot of people out and about suffering from mental illnesses.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 08/01/2011 19:53

You may be terrified of dogs stangirl but I bet you'd never approach an owner of one and shout "you bloody bitch" at them?!?

Rant away stata - much better to vent here than at her - as I say though, I'm not sure I'd have been as calm and I am a Lady don't you know.
