Don't think IWU but need an MN check.
So, I was walking from the park with my dds aged 4 and 7 and my dog on a short lead. Dog is a boxer/lab cross but often mistaken for a staffy and, to people who don't know dogs, can look a bit scary because of that.

Anyway, old lady comes up the street. Girls were a bit ahead on scooters so told them to slow down and be careful passing her. But as I came up, she shouted 'No dogs here please, take him to the park'. I stopped so she could pass and said 'It's OK, he's on a lead'. At this point she walked by and screamed back 'Bloody bitch!' Shock

I was tempted to go after her because I was pretty annoyed that she'd sworn at me in front of my children but figured it might make things worse.

I really don't think IWU, I mean I was walking down the road with a dog on a lead, dog wasn't barking or acting aggressively. I can't help being bothered by being called a bloody bitch by a complete stranger so just need to check that it was her not me...

Lol at crusty old broads. She probably didn't have her cup of tea yet. Grin

Life's too short to be bothered by people who try to bother you. Grin

bupcakesandcunting · 08/01/2011 19:55

The winter will finish her off, don't worry.

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/01/2011 19:56

"mental health issues my arse lol, she was obviously an old busybody who looks for something to complain about everyday"

What a stupid crass comment: "mental health issues my arse lol".

Vallhala · 08/01/2011 19:56

Waitwhat, fuck off would be my reply too.

Compo - "She might have mental health issues". From the sound of it there's no might about it!

StataLover, my sympathy and conrgats on keeping your cool. I'm sick of the anti dog/breed specific hysteria and wouldn't have been so polite.

I had it the other day - walking along a public footpath, saw people in the distance so called my very obedient Shep to me and leaded him up out of courtesy, moving to the side of the path and putting him in a sit and stay.

The stupid individual coming towards me, whose child was *screaming^ at my (dopey friendly and bemused) GSD told me to fuck off and go back down the path because their PFB doesn't like dogs.

Suffice to say they didn't get what they wanted.

"What a stupid crass comment: "mental health issues my arse lol"."

Yeah, mental health issues, because thats just an excuse to be downright rude and upsetting to innocent people...

Oh I have mental health issues, I think i'll murder my __ (insert as appropriate)

ManateeEquineOhara · 08/01/2011 20:02

She has no right to tell you where your dog can and cannot be, unless you were walking through her land?!

SOME mental health issues might cause people to behave in rude ways though. But that does not make anyone unreasonable for feeling that they have been spoken to rudely!

bupcakesandcunting · 08/01/2011 20:02

Oh bollocks. It's alwayd trotted out on these threads, the old MH chestnut. Tis possible that there are cunts walking the earth, no?

Stangirl · 08/01/2011 20:03

LadyB&B Absolutely right I wouldn't. I realise my phobia is my problem and would never say anything (also partly terrified they'd set their dog on me anyway). Oddly my fear is in inverse proportion to the dog size - I quite like big daft dogs like labradors or afghans but show me a yapper like a shitzhu and I'll run a mile.

ManateeEquineOhara · 08/01/2011 20:04

BTW, I used to live with someone who had a boxer X lab, he was lush and dopey but did look a bit staf-like :) But staffys are not dangerous anyway!

BurnAfterReading · 08/01/2011 20:04

hallefuckinlujah bupcakes and amen to that

spikeycow · 08/01/2011 20:06

A war cry ususlly works well in these situations. Especially when running towards people waving your arms

Vallhala · 08/01/2011 20:06

You'd like my Shep, honest Stangirl. His specialities are keeping feet warm and poking a big, wet nose in your face and paw in your lap if you cry (it could be tears of laughter, as I said, he's dopey), together with a concerned, wrinkled brow and a sloppy kiss.

:o

RevoltingPeasant · 08/01/2011 20:09

Valhalla

Absolutely. Several times when I have been walking my golden retriever people's children have screamed and the parents act as though I am at fault.

Now, I was really scared of dogs as a child, but when you are a parent, you are surely expected to see that this is an irrational fear if the dog in question is well-mannered and on a lead! So you reassure the DCs, rather than reinforcing the fear by suggesting that the dogwalker is a threat...

She does sound a bit deranged. I am getting a bit sick of the ageist attitudes on MN though.

RevoltingPeasant · 08/01/2011 20:10

@ bupcakes 20.02

Well with your nickname you ought to know!!

Grin
StataLover · 08/01/2011 20:12

sue52

I'd have been just as annoyed if it was a younger person.

But it was just so unexpected from an old woman. Maybe it is ageist, but in my experience, older people swear far far less than younger.

I'm Captain Cunt. The swearing dog hater was one of my graduates Wink

sue52 · 08/01/2011 20:21

Actually the older I get, the more I swear.Smile

RevoltingPeasant · 08/01/2011 20:26

Captain Cunt!

How, oh how, do I namechange to that??

StataLover · 08/01/2011 20:34

lol sue52

it must be generational

OP posts:
Bingtata · 08/01/2011 20:35

Just because someone is rude or socially inappropriate does not mean they have mental health issues because by saying that you are implying that people who have mental health issues are rude or socially inappropriate and that is a huge and misplaced generalisation!

Bingtata · 08/01/2011 20:36

It can be a symptom of some mental illnesses, but it is like saying everyone who has a physical health problem falls over.

FellatioNelson · 08/01/2011 20:38

YANBU - staffy looking dog or not, she was a nutter!

GotArt · 08/01/2011 22:15

I know what the broad's problem is; she has Tourette Syndrome... Wink (Just to clarify, I'm not making a crass comment to anyone who has Tourette's, just making a funny comment on how ridiculous some people get when trying to justify a strangers idiocy)

Mental health issue my ass, she was rude and a little irrational to make a comment about no dogs allowed in the street. After it spewed from her mouth, she probably realized how asinine she was being but had to make herself feel better by calling the OP a bloody bitch in front of her two DC's after the OP made a perfectly normal remark that he was on a lead anyhow.

wayoftheworld · 08/01/2011 22:20

Dont take it personally - you might want to feel sorry for her. If that is the only way she can comunicate to strangers, it must be a sad life she is living. Let it go...
