Don't think IWU but need an MN check.
So, I was walking from the park with my dds aged 4 and 7 and my dog on a short lead. Dog is a boxer/lab cross but often mistaken for a staffy and, to people who don't know dogs, can look a bit scary because of that.

Anyway, old lady comes up the street. Girls were a bit ahead on scooters so told them to slow down and be careful passing her. But as I came up, she shouted 'No dogs here please, take him to the park'. I stopped so she could pass and said 'It's OK, he's on a lead'. At this point she walked by and screamed back 'Bloody bitch!'

I was tempted to go after her because I was pretty annoyed that she'd sworn at me in front of my children but figured it might make things worse.

I really don't think IWU, I mean I was walking down the road with a dog on a lead, dog wasn't barking or acting aggressively. I can't help being bothered by being called a bloody bitch by a complete stranger so just need to check that it was her not me...

I was walking my spaniel on a lead across a field (actually an enormous common) when some woman came from behind a tree and said "I hate fucking dogs, they shouldn't be allowed round here"

I said " where? The country"

There's loons everywhere. She was clearly one of them.

Totally unrelated, but reminds me of the time I was swimming topless in an isolated, idyllic brook in the Yorkshire Dales.

When I got out a woman was standing on the bank, surreally smoking a fag in the middle of nowhere. 'You know they have CCTV cameras in the trees?' she said.

Unless there was a sign clearly stating "No dogs", then no, YANBU.

It sounds very much like the older woman who stood by me in a john lewis as I was trying on a hat with dh for a wedding, wanted to see if it went with the shoes (was sil wedding so wanted it to be a bit more jazzy and special) and she tutted a great deal and said how ugly they were and how stupid I looked. made me feel like shit and still does when I think about it. It may well be that she suffered from some mental illness, however I also think some people get to a certain age and are just plain rude!

it's not something that usually happens to me - just wondered if there's a dissenting view to consider, especially because my neighbour thought I should muzzle my dog in public because he looks a bit scary
