I was brought up in a very left-wing, lentil weaving, Guardian-reader household and always used to consider myself very open minded and not at all rascist.
When I was 20 I moved to France. I received a non stop torrent of abuse in the street from North African men (mainly Moroccan and Algerian), sexual harrassment, being followed in cars, cat-calling etc.
It got to the point where I would see a North African male and immediately cross the road or tense up in anticipation of the onslaught.
That, of course, is rascism.
I am not sure what point I am trying to make here, I guess that we are all rascist or at least hold prejudicial views based on our experiences whether we like it or not.
