to think speeding fines are a joke?

I just got a letter saying I was speeding-which is fair, I know I was, and I know where the bastarding mobile camera van caught me. However I was doing 4 miles over the speed limit and they have kindly offered me 6 points an £80 fine and a court hearing for prosecution. It used to be 3 points, £60 and a court hearing if you disputed it. I'm so annoyed, do the police have nothing better to do?

Yeah I think I'll check the picture. I thought they'd just vamped up the punishment...kind of expecting capital punishment if any of these posters get their own way!

I wasn't doing anything else, I have a bluetooth speaker thing on the visor to talk on the phone which comes out of the radio speakers (even though it makes me look like I'm talking to myself).

I can attempt to scan the letter onto here for those of you who think I was swigging from a bottle of Jack while simultaneously over the limit by 4 miles Hmm

You also shouldn't rely on your satnav but watch for the signs which tell you the speed

LadyOfTheManor · 07/01/2011 19:41

Erm I don't "normally speed", but it's easy to go over by one or two miles, usually on the motorway or when overtaking.

I too drive, and I can say that I have never speeded sped? I'm that annoying person who does 30mph all the way through the 30 zones with a queue of cars behind me.

the points seem very extreme!! can you appeal??

LadyOfTheManor · 07/01/2011 19:43

Yes it was sleeting, my roof was covered by the road was clear, just slush by the curbs, I remember noting that because it was completely clear from where I live to where I was picking my friend up from-ABergavenny for what it's worth, where my speeding probably made the front page.

*but the road

and yes I think I shall be appealing!

"It's weird because my Sat Nav normally alerts me if there are cameras around and I'm doing higher than the limit and it didn't beep."

Well, just in case your sat nav fails to alert you in future, I've got a really good idea for idea, look here

people that get speeding fines are from all walks of life.

people that have accidents are predominantly men in the 17-25 bracket.

conclusion: speeding is not in itself a sign that a person is mroe likely to have an accident.

LadyOfTheManor · 07/01/2011 19:49

Oh gosh no, nothing like that. Literally a dusting of sleet with would've melted within seconds I imagine.

Sorry did you want sympathy for breaking a really well known law?

That sounds very harsh actually

DH got a speeding fine in the post yesterday. Apparently he was doing 80 in a 70 limit. He gets 3 points and a £60 fine. Alternatively he could go on a Speed Awareness course but that costs £75. He has decide to pay the £60 and take the points as his license is otherwise clean so provided he is lucky stays good 3 points shouldn't be too much orblem.
