to think speeding fines are a joke?

I just got a letter saying I was speeding-which is fair, I know I was, and I know where the bastarding mobile camera van caught me. However I was doing 4 miles over the speed limit and they have kindly offered me 6 points an £80 fine and a court hearing for prosecution. It used to be 3 points, £60 and a court hearing if you disputed it. I'm so annoyed, do the police have nothing better to do?

Apparently I have 6. Great. I might convince my mum to take them, she never drives anywhere!

Yes but only rec. Had this a lot. Ditto repeater signs.

JakeBrake · 07/01/2011 19:24

Be very careful. Increasingly getting people for that. That's wjyyouare summonses then. Can only ban in person. But the 6 is still wrong

FelicityParpworth · 07/01/2011 19:26

I would write and query too. It's not your second speeding charge within a short time is it? That could be a reason for more points this time.

detachandtrustyourself · 07/01/2011 19:27

Hope you are not serious about getting your mum to take them. Pretty sure that would be a criminal offence.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/01/2011 19:28

'I might convince my mum to take them, she never drives anywhere!'

I seriously hope you are joking here!!

If you get found you'll have more to worry about than 6 points and an £80 fine.

By all means query why it is 6 points rather than 3, that does sound odd. But at the end of the day you were speeding and you got caught. Suck it up.

Still you should ask the why it is 6 points, if that is not normal. Doesn't seem fair.

JakeBrake · 07/01/2011 19:30

I jik defendants think it's the law

LadyOfTheManor · 07/01/2011 19:30

It's my first offence so I'm not a repeat offender (gosh I sound like a yobbo).

I am willing to take 3 points and £60 but 6 points?! I think I shall contact ye olde DVLA and ask them what they think they're playing at. Thieving bunch of jobsworths.

YABU. If you don't want the fine don't speed. I HATE the attitude of how speeding fines are a cruel unfair tax on innocent motorists. Arrogant twats who break the law are lucky to get away with a fine and points.

LadyOfTheManor · 07/01/2011 19:31

It's a victimless crime.

No ring court. Sound humble. Might be tough ;)

If you get fined in court you'll pay £15 victim surcharge !! Thanks to Labour for that

borderslass · 07/01/2011 19:32

Does it say on the letter you where 4 miles over the limit as you say you slammed on your brakes.

RobF · 07/01/2011 19:32

If you can't judge your speed without looking at the speedo every few seconds, you probably shouldn't be driving in the first place. Pay the fine and try not to speed in future.

"It's a victimless crime".

Until you hit someone. Bloody hell, why do some motorists think they have this right to break the laws when they choose.

LadyOfTheManor · 07/01/2011 19:35

I slammed on my brakes after I passed it, apparently as the van was on the other side of the road, it clocks as you come at it. It's weird because my Sat Nav normally alerts me if there are cameras around and I'm doing higher than the limit and it didn't beep.

Some people are so self righteous about speeding penalties...usually people who don't drive...I bet you'd rather us be locked up and rot in jail eh?

Jake...I can act humble. Well, I can try!

OP posts:
LadyOfTheManor · 07/01/2011 19:36

Well it was victimless in my experience. Although that isn't true, as I appear to be the victim.

borderslass · 07/01/2011 19:37

here
you must of being doing a lot more than that then to get 6 points and a court date.
