I think I'm generally thought of as intelligent. I have an MA from a top ten university. And I LOVE Eastenders. Even though this particular storyline is upsetting me hugely. I have thought about stopping watching it. But it's been 18 years now, and I genuinely believe that if I moved to Albert Square I could be friends with some of the characters.

You're not really getting it if you think that 'thick eastender's viewers' are the only people upset by it's current insensitive story line, I personally haven't watched an entire episode for about 20 years but I've seen enough in the press about it to be disgusted by the writers for dreaming up this idiotic plot.

JakeBrake it's true what you say about people complaining when they haven't been watching. I'm not saying that the plot is perfect (far from it) but it hasn't been done as badly as many people report, in my opinion.

Eastenders is total dirge, in fact 95% of terrestrial tv is pandering to the thicker element and at least 99% of satellite and cable tv is.

...however, Shameless starts again next week which is possibly the best observational screenwriting ever seen.
