AIBU to think Cbeebies should either stop showing or recommission Come Outside?

According to It's Wiki page it ran from 1993 to 1997 originally.

Everything is just so .... old looking!

I think it is good to have a few programs on the telly to prompt you to switch it off and do something a bit more engaging with the DC

notquitenormal · 04/01/2011 14:51

My brother used to watch Come Outside and he's 17 now. he adored is.

DS is 2.9 and quite likes it too.

I don't think it should be updated or recommisioned. Postman Pat taught me that with the abomination that is Special Delivery Serve [hex sign]

PhishFoodAddiction · 04/01/2011 14:52

YABU.

I think the way it looks old is part of its charm. My DDs love Pippin and the spotty plane.

I love the ones where Auntie Mabel is clearly superimposed onto a background- the marmalade one iirc.

The sewage one made me a bit Shock, I half expected Auntie Mabel to say 'now you know all about crap me dears' at the end. Grin

It's way better than some of the progs on Cbeebies.

UniS · 04/01/2011 15:29

I wish it was on i-player. its one of the few programs DS isn't scared of.

i love it!unfortunatly dc have grown out of it!
it does teach children alot but the picking up dog poo and flushing it down the loo was just too much for me when i had morning sickness!

MrsChemist · 04/01/2011 15:41

I feel like I'm missing a vital bit of experience having never seen the poo episode.

In today's episode, her plane wasn't working, so she gets the bus instead. Imagine living in a world where your transport options are either plane, or bus.

Sidge · 04/01/2011 15:45

I love Come Outside (and the children rather like it too Grin)

Aunty Mabel should be ashamed of her carbon footprint, but that aside it's great. I now know how they make welly boots.

I do howl though every time they do an aerial shot inside the plane of the male pilot wearing a ginger wig with his grey stubbly crew cut poking out at the bottom, and the immobile stuffed 'Pippin' sitting next to him/her.

EauRouge · 04/01/2011 15:46

DD is another big fan of Pippin and Auntie Mabel. My personal favourite bit is the shot of 'Auntie Mabel' and 'Pippin' in the plane and it's so obviously a burly bloke in a wig and a shit animatronic dog.

MrsTumbles · 04/01/2011 15:47

My DH watched it for the first time this morning (with DD obviously!). He called me in to question how old the programme was, as they had a 'new' bus on it which was an F reg. DD just said 'Shh Daddy' as he was spoiling her watching!
It brings back fond memories of when I watched it with my DB when he was little, he's 23 now!

MadameOvary · 04/01/2011 15:53

It's grown on me, and DD runs around shouting "Oh no, Pippin is lost!" Grin
Brum however is shit and irritating, please don't tell me it's back on!

MrsChemist · 04/01/2011 15:56

DH used to watch it when he was a child. He loves it.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/01/2011 15:57

"Paaaaaaaper paaaaaaper read all abaaahhhht it,
Paaaaaper paaaaaper we can't do without it"

I love Pippin. DD gets so excited when it comes on.

I take issue with how badly Auntie Mabel looks after Pippin, she is always losing him. And one day, she missed the bus to the library, so she took the plane instead!

ChippyMinton · 04/01/2011 15:58

YABU.
My favourites are the sewage episode and the marmalade-making episode where Aunty Mabel appears to be superimposed onto film of seville orange pickers.

And the one where she visits South Ruislip library.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/01/2011 16:01

I tried to source the DVD's for DS when he was going through his phase of watching it every minute of the day and bursting into hysterical tears as soon as the end credits popped up.
80 quid. 80 bleeding quid they wanted for the box set. They only made like, 4 episodes!

The parts where they filmed an obvious bloke pilot flying the plane with the little wispy red haired wig make me laugh.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 04/01/2011 16:02

I dont think they show the chip pan fore one anymore, I havent seen it in a long time. Nor the crisps or juice episodes.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 04/01/2011 16:03

Ang whenever my DS sees a lunchbox with a handle, he calls it a "Pippin box" and tries to carry it round with his teeth!

backwardpossom · 04/01/2011 16:03

We're big fans in this house. DS (1.5) loves shouting "oof oof" at Pippin :)

shinyshoes · 04/01/2011 16:03

if they recommisioned it, it would be all 'green' and Health and Safety issues would be addressed (she randomly wouldn't be able to go down a sewer perhaps)

It would be spoilt and not in keeping with the Come Outside we know and love Sad

JennyHaniver · 04/01/2011 16:06

And she'd ride a bike like Miss Hoolie...with a basket on the front for Pippin.

JennyHaniver · 04/01/2011 16:07

There would be an episode about eating your greens and one about recycling....and she'd actively switch the bloody streetlight off to save energy.

JennyHaniver · 04/01/2011 16:08

They might even replace Pippin with a cartoon parrot....or something equally stupidly in offensive...

lottiejenkins · 04/01/2011 16:15

YABU. Come Outside is a great way for children to learn about everyday things! My ds is 14 he has autism and is deaf and he still loves watching CO!! Our fave is the one with following Pippins poo when it is flushed down the toilet!! Grin My ds always rushes in and finds me and says "Mumma Mumma Pippins Poooooooooo!!"

BornToFolk · 04/01/2011 16:20

The fire one has definitely been on recently. We started recording them all a couple of months ago and I know I've seen that one.
Don't remember one about crisps though...

I love the episode with the hedgehog that Aunty Mabel takes to the vet. She asks the receptionist if she can go with with hedgehog when it sees the vet and the receptionist says "well, we don't normally allow it but because you are Aunty..."

I'm going to start calling myself Aunty and see if I get special privileges! Grin

Ivette · 04/01/2011 16:20

i love it,my DD as well!
