frozen roast potatoes are for emergencies not for Christmas day

I made a double chocolate baked cheese cake for Christmas with the in-laws - they didn't eat it and chose tesco value chocolate cake over my homemade dessert. I had to laugh - my dessert was yummy and dh and dd both ate mine. dh was horrified that his family were so rude and also by their taste buds.

I was alarmed when I went to the fridge on Christmas eve for dd's milk to see no sign of a Christmas dinner. My assumptions were correct - all from the freezer - even the veg including roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings to go with the Iceland roast pork and lamb.

Luckily, my aunt made a fab Christmas dinner on Monday so at least I've had real Christmas dinner.

Don't mean to sound snobby, but I come from a family that enjoys homemade food.

Hmm,Sugarbag, half the houses in the next village had their front doors painted in Sugarbag a year or two back. They've all been repainted now.

You'd like the decorator-he says that Furleys have gone downhill recently and that 'you used to be able to get a lovely lampshade in there, but not now'.He also bemoans the fact that people in our area have got money, but only want to spend it on tractors and machinery.I don't know why he is complaining,he is booked up 6 months in advance. All the farmer's wives love him and won't countenance anyone else.

I would love it!

Extension and blubbering, rather. WTF? More coffee needed, apparently.

As far as the OP goes, I think her ILs were rude to not at least try the her cheesecake, and I think she's rude to make such a business out of what she was served. I prefer to make and eat fresh food too, but I don't expect everyone does.

And IMVHO there's nothing more "common" than being ill-mannered and ungracious. Wink

LeQueen I also admit to having a shadowbox (the backing is linen) with a mounted sea star hanging on my wall.

:)

Well, it could be worse, eh? It could be this, for example, or I could have an armoire full of porcelin dolls and Princess Diana plates. :o

'oh, if only pinkpanatone would come back, we could explain to her that stairs leading off a kitchen isn't something to be ashamed, anymore. And, that it just means you live in a house that once upon a time was large enough to need servants'. I'm sure that would make her day.'

But I seem to recall (and I may be wrong here) that your stairs go'up' LeQ? Servants went down from the kitchen. Unless you are living in servant's quarters of course. Pleb.

Just read it's Georgian - we'll let you off then.

How awful for you , you were welcomed into someones home for Christmas could relax whilst your dinner was cooked for you and they gave you frozen roast potatoes !! I'm surprised you didn't leave at once , I hope you made sure they gave you the right thread count sheets too .whatever next artic roll for dessert. I often invite my freinds and family for dinner and use frozen roasties they afford me forty five mins extra family time rather being stuck I the kitchen peeling potatoes ,IF I thought someone was judging me on it I would be very shocked and offended .

terrystyg · 08/01/2011 00:38

I think their food sounds vile and they should have a bit of pride, it seems to be a thing with some people that they can't be seen to be making an effort purely for the sake of enjoyment.. my god no! Cheap and nasty will do! My mil turned up one xmas day in her usual get up of bon marche jeans and bhs polo neck and took great delight in telling me that fil had originally dressed in a smart shirt saying that he thought he should make an effort but she had told him to go and get changed back into everyday clothes because she certainly wasn't going to get dressed up! Oh and let's talk all the way thru betty's speech as well, wouldn't want anyone to even think that i might respect anybody else enough to shut up for a bit.. Sorry that turned into a bit of a mil bashing but feel a bit better now!

Namethechange · 08/01/2011 13:04

It's just so awful and snobby to judge relatives and friends on the quality of the food they serve you maybe they don't have the money to buy fancy gourmet foods for all of you .if it is really that bad return the favour next Christmas at your house .
