frozen roast potatoes are for emergencies not for Christmas day

I made a double chocolate baked cheese cake for Christmas with the in-laws - they didn't eat it and chose tesco value chocolate cake over my homemade dessert. I had to laugh - my dessert was yummy and dh and dd both ate mine. dh was horrified that his family were so rude and also by their taste buds.

I was alarmed when I went to the fridge on Christmas eve for dd's milk to see no sign of a Christmas dinner. My assumptions were correct - all from the freezer - even the veg including roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings to go with the Iceland roast pork and lamb.

Luckily, my aunt made a fab Christmas dinner on Monday so at least I've had real Christmas dinner.

Don't mean to sound snobby, but I come from a family that enjoys homemade food.

LeQueen I can't even buy two matching mugs since I've been on MN. My class/style paranoia has reached an all-time high. Shock

Now, it pains me to say this, but what they could do with, if they want to sell that house, is some twigs and some pebbly shit.

And several large skips, obviously.

(JoanofArgos if you are quite new you won't get that joke.) If you are of a sensitive diposition you might need to come back after a few stiff drinks. Grin

err...that's MY house you're all having a good laff at!

TotorosOcarina · 05/01/2011 15:42

we had preprepared (but not frozen) roasties this year and aunt bessies yorkshires.

The reason?

it was only me, DH and the kids.

and the kids are crap eaters and only eat the mash anyways so i wasn't prepared to spend ohours in the kitchen for a meal not to be eaten, I wanted to spend xmas day with the kids, not in the kitchen.

We've just moved and the new house has borders and flowery wallpaper. It is not good. Unfortunately the lovely old couple who sold us the house now live next door and will have to see us decimate their lovingly decorated home of 15 years. Sad

What would Sarah Beeny say?

[considers hiring Fellatio and Lequeen as interior decor consultants for new house]

Fellatio & LeQueen would be a great name for interior decorators!

TandB · 05/01/2011 16:00

On the subject of houses, did anyone see Kirsty and Phil's Embarrassing Bits? It was behind the scenes filming from Location Location. I was watching it with this face Shock

He told naughty jokes and she had a potty mouth. And before the watershed too!

TandB · 05/01/2011 16:00

Come on - set up Fellatio & LeQueen. Pleeeease!

I believe proper posh types would opt for the chipped Ikea, circa 1994, so I'll say that then. Are your biscuits chocolate coated, because I believe that may be a terribly common social faux pas, like quilted loo roll, when only plain Rich Tea and Izal in a freezing unheated privy will do.

God, it's a minefield, this learning to be posh lark.

Do you have a three piece suite? Because I'm sorry but I can't sit on them.

(Do you think we have digressed at all?)Confused

LeQ, I think you need to sit down in a darkened room, because that's your second spelling mistake on the thread

I read in the latest issue of Vair Posh Homes and Gardens, that escalators are the way forward for 2011.

As we speak, I am having a poor person rip out all my stairs.

JoanofArgos · 05/01/2011 16:35

I'm just amused at the idea of an emergency that requires frozen roast potatoes! Grin

Grin I was shattered by my 2nd day back at work and the thought of taking down the Yule decorations when I sat down for a cup of ginger tea in a chipped Cath Kidston mug. (see what I did there?) I am Grin Grin

I think Fellatio and LeQueen could set up a website to proffer advice for Distressed GentleWomen of Any Class Who Wish to Aspire to a Proper Way of Living but Are Sadly Lacking in Skills and Knowledge re Decor, Roasting and Stairs!

Oh, yes,...of course....it's already been done...it's called Mumsnet.

stillfeel18inside · 05/01/2011 17:57

YABU - and wish I'd thought of using Aunt Bessies spuds on Christmas day as I'd have had more time to enjoy the day and less stress (although my home made Nigella goose-fat, shaken not stirred Maris Pipers were the business!)

GetOrfMoiLand · 05/01/2011 17:58

Fellatio & LeQueen

What a fantastic name. For anything.

You would be like the Trinny & Susannah of the interiros world.
