but AIBU to want to go to a proper old school rave?

In my early 20's I used to go to a lot illegal raves. I very occasionally used to take drugs but have since stopped all that lark. I never did it much anyway, preferring to get a bit drunk then just dance my ass off all night. I was very heavily into the scene and went every weekend all weekend.

Fwd wind a few years later I am now 36 I have a dd who is 3.5. I have just been invited to a warehouse party by old raving mate of mine whos never really left the scene. One of the main oraganisers of the raves back the are celebrating thier 20 yr anniversary this yr with an all out old school party in London and I think I want to go.

I am still fit and healthy and still enjoy the music but am more than too aware of the type of people I will be surrounded by. I would never ever take a drug again and intend to do it like I used to. Am i too old just for a one off night to relive old times.

Go for it. If it were me though, I'm pretty sure I'd get there, think it was too loud, get irritated by everyone and go home early anyway! Grin

SantasMadMissy · 28/12/2010 20:04

I wouldn't go

FaffTastic · 28/12/2010 20:05

You're def not too old, you'll prob just find that you're bored rigid and its not like you remember it to be.

Go, but just say no to drugs young lady

PlonkerForLifeNotJustChristmas · 28/12/2010 20:06

I've answered this in chat but here goes again ...

Go for it!

cheezyquaver · 28/12/2010 20:07

:)

I'm suprised i havent been called a total saddo having a midlife crisis yet.

I know thats very much the case but it would be nice to enjoy it a bit then probably leave early :)

Absolutely go for it

Plumm · 28/12/2010 20:07

Go for it! DH and i went to the ministry last new year's eve - we had a great time but it took about 3 days to recover. My mum had to keep DD for an extra night!

TheMonster · 28/12/2010 20:08

go for it! and enjoy.

cheezyquaver · 28/12/2010 20:09

Faff-i really never would-haven't for almost 8 yrs and was bored rigid the last time.

Simply not intterested anymore. if i need an energy boost on the night I will take caffeine. (probably in a flask :)old duffer emoticon)

molemesses · 28/12/2010 20:09

Go for it, but it's not going to be how you remember it.

I now go out clubbing once a year, to remind myself why I dont bother anymore.

usualsuspect · 28/12/2010 20:09

Go!

YABU, Do you remember that episode from Men Behaving Badly? That will be you. Wink

MorticiaAddams · 28/12/2010 20:12

You should go and see what it's like.

We used to go to regular illegal raves "down the arches" but there was nothing like waiting for that last minute phone call for other raves.

I'm a little older than you and used to go to warehouse parties too.

Aww, I feel all nostalgic now. Again, another not a drug taker but I used to find tequila was always a happy drink.

herjazz · 28/12/2010 20:14

Gwarn. Enjoy!

V v occasionally I still do stuff like that. And I couldn't give a gnats chuff if that makes me a saddo!

cheezyquaver · 28/12/2010 20:15

Morticia-any of them in Northamptonshire or leicestershire? we may have met :)

OP posts:
AuntiePickleBottom · 28/12/2010 20:17

go for it, but it wont be how you remember

oldraver · 28/12/2010 20:17

Go. I still go to the odd dance event probably only once or twice a year now but there are always people of all ages there. With a specific 'old school' rave I think you will find even more oldies there.

SwearyMary · 28/12/2010 20:19

Go......and take me please Xmas Grin

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 28/12/2010 20:19

Just go. DH still ds. :) (Face for raving reasons rather than to be friendly, but mean that too! :) )

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 28/12/2010 20:19

(does, not ds!)

BitOfFun · 28/12/2010 20:21

Go, but take the drugs if offered. There's a reason why people who love dance music are off their tits- because it sounds shite otherwise.

MorticiaAddams · 28/12/2010 20:28

Naah Cheezy, I am darn Sarf.

OpenToLawSuits · 28/12/2010 20:30

If I were there (I'm 24) I'd probably think "she's too old". BUt I won't be there, so go for it :)

Jellykat · 28/12/2010 20:35

Do you remember leaving the pub with a vague notion of where the rave was, driving clueless along some country road, then realizing there were 20 cars following behind you? Grin

How the hell did that always happen? Ah the joy when you could see the lights and hear the music!..

Once a CheesyQuaver, always a CheesyQuaver i reckon -Go for it with wild abandon!Wink
