To not like BIL snooping around our house

At ds's birthday party last month (dh's) BIL refused to use the downstairs guest bathroom & kept going upstairs to use the main bathroom - found this odd but fair enough , everyone else was happy to stay downstairs & use the bathroom . Later that night when everyone had gone home i noticed the attic door was fully open now this door is high up in the ceiling with no stair access so difficult to open (you would need to stand on the stair banister to get up there or get a ladder and the spare bedroom door was also open (junk room always locked )
We said nothing to Bil but now its DD's birthday party on Thursday & BIl will be here again & i am sooo tempted to bring it up in a jokey kind of manner ( something like "oh we must have some v strong mice in the attic as they are able to open the doors") but dh doesn't want me to .
What do you think ?

my pil prop their door open when they stay here,very odd behaviour imo.When we go to bed fil always finds excuse to tap on our firmly closed door and come in before leaving my door open!!! odd eh? Just a little anecdote to pass the time untill the party.

thats true tulpe,he may be a spy for the russian govt.and she is threatening to tell all.Of course,it makes perfect sense now.

I often go upstairs to the loo in other peoples houses as downstairs loos are too near other people if I need a poo - I worry about noises being heard, being too long or no window to open downstairs

I'm wierd though

Now this BIL... Is it possible he suspects you or your OH of stealing from him and is looking for it (whatever 'it' is)? Perhaps he has had something go missing and was checking you hadn't got it.

Leaving the attic door wide open could be an unspoken warning to you that he onto you.

My favourite theory is that he is texting illicit girlfriend or snorting coke though.

I would be tempted to pile up a load of metal trays, baking tins etc so they fall through the door and clatter noisily right down the stairs when he opens the door next time.

crimbly- i would need the upstairs loo to poo too as i am also very strange but not 6 times in 90 mins,id go home after 3 times and wouldnt snoop in the attic after.I have a downstairs loo quite nr the kitchen so i prefer pooers to use the upstairs facilities tbh.

Could be aiding and abetting a crime by hiding lord lucan up there?

I reckon he had problems with smelly movements. And decided to open the loft hatch to help air out the smells, because he possibly did not want to go into anybody's rooms to open windows. In fact, his conduct may be the opposite of sneaky.....

I'd just say something to be honest! I don't get families who can't just say this stuff. Go for it girl.

Given the attic is awkward to get into without using a ladder, I suspect even if he does go upstairs again he would not bother with it.

Have you any computers upstairs ? Just asking in case you could rig one or more up to record off webcam and capture the few hours when he visits next.

Of course, he might have been into your underwear draw biggirlsdontcry and opened the attic just to draw attention away so he could hide some of your knickers in his pocket !
